  1. Post update

    PSG

As parties break out across the French capital tonight in celebration of Paris St-Germain becoming champions again, it is time for us to disappear into the night.

But we will be back tomorrow when they could be another title bash - in Spain. Barcelona will regain the La Liga crown from Atletico Madrid by beating the defending champions at the Vicente Calderon.

That match, along with the rest of the penultimate Spanish top-flight fixtures, kicks off at 18:00 BST. Do. Not. Miss. Until then...au revoir!

  2. FULL-TIME SCORES

    French Ligue 1

    Bastia 1-1 Caen

    Evian 1-2 St-Etienne

    Guingamp 2-1 Toulouse

    Lille 0-4 Marseille

    Lyon 1-1 Bordeaux

    Monaco 2-0 Metz

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    Nantes 1-1 Lorient

    Nice 2-1 Lens

    Reims 1-0 Rennes

  3. Evian relegated

    Evian 1-2 St Etienne

    French Ligue 1

While PSG celebrate with (presumably) magnums of champagne later, Evian will be drowning their sorrows with a bottle of something less extravagant. Mineral water perhaps. They have been swilled from the French top-flight, relegation confirmed by a 2-1 home defeat by St Etienne. Ex-Leeds United winger Max Gradel scored both goals for the visitors.

  4. PSG ARE CHAMPIONS

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    PSG

PSG may have won their third Ligue 1 title in a row but it is only the fifth success in their 45-year history. That's only half of the number racked up by St Etienne...

  5. PSG ARE CHAMPIONS

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

PSG only needed a point to clinch the title tonight - in the end they got all three. And it turns out that they would still have been crowned champions with a defeat in Montpellier. That's because nearest rivals Lyon failed to beat Bordeaux, drawing 1-1 at home.

  6. PSG ARE CHAMPIONS

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

Laurent Blanc is beaming from ear to ear as he gallops on to the Stade de la Mosson pitch, which is engulfed by a smoky glaze after those celebratory flares were thrown by the away fans. The former France defender embraces his players one after the other, as the PSG staff gather beneath the stand housing their travelling supporters.

  7. PSG ARE CHAMPIONS

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

The referee blows his full-time whistle - and that means PSG are crowned French champions once again. Party time!

PSG are champions of Ligue 1
  8. Post update

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

The game is not quite over - and PSG are not quite the French champions. For a few seconds at least. But the away fans are already celebrating by flinging firecrackers on to the Stade de la Mosson pitch.

  9. HITS THE WOODWORK

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    Javier Pastore

Almost the crowning glory. Montpellier can't clear following that previous counter attack and Javier Pastore pounces to rattle the left upright with a thumping half-volley.

  10. INJURY TIME

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

Three minutes of stoppage time - is that enough time for a third goal for the champions-elect? David Luiz hopes so. The PSG defender sprints forward to join a counter attack, but Montpellier scramble back to clear.

  11. Post update

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

Still time for Montpellier to nab an equaliser. Probably not enough time for PSG to not win the title tonight. Home substitute Souleymane Camara tries to force in a low cross at the near post, but PSG skipper Thiago Silva nips in to block.

  12. Post update

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

PSG look to take the sting out of the game, taking their time over an attacking free-kick. Montpellier partially clear the set-piece, only as far as Lucas Moura who lashes a 20-yard shot past the right-hand post.

  13. FINAL FIVE

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    Ligue 1 trophy

The countdown is on for PSG fans. Five minutes until the Parisians are crowned French champions for the third successive season. That's unless Montpellier score twice and second-placed Lyon find a late winner against Bordeaux.

  14. GREAT SAVE!

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

Montpellier have been thrusting forward with the incisiveness of a blunt knife on a block of wood - and they are almost caught out at the back. Home keeper Jonathan Ligali has barely broken sweat in the second half, but is needed to smartly save twice in quick succession from Serge Aurier's low angled shot and then Lucas Moura's prod.

  15. FULL-TIME

    Sampdoria 0-1 Lazio

    Italian Serie A

    Santiago Gentilett

It's all over in Genoa, and Lazio have held on against Sampdoria to claim all three points and edge closer to Champions League football next season. The win means Lazio leapfrog bitter city rivals Roma into second spot, however Roma can go back above them tomorrow with a win over Udinese at the Stadio Olimpico. Next weekend is the Rome derby as well - shaping up to be a cracker that one. Although Lazio have the small matter of the Italian Cup final against Juventus on Wednesday first.

  16. Post update

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

Despite Montpellier dominating possession and territory since the break, they haven't really stretched PSG keeper Salvatore Sirigu. Another home corner...another poor delivery. PSG clear comfortably.

  17. SUBSTITUTION

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

And here is a change that illustrates PSG's current nervousness. Off comes midfielder Yohan Cabaye, with centre-back Marquinhos stood on the touchline to take his place. That might see David Luiz pushing into midfield.

  18. Post update

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

Hold on, PSG might not be celebrating if Montpellier have their way. The home side are knocking on the away door, dominating the second half as PSG sink deeper and deeper. Nerves perhaps as they edge closer to the title?

  19. Post update

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

    Sarkozy

And if PSG do clinch the title, then here's one selfie-posing fan who will be delighted. Recognise him? You should do - it is, of course, former French president Nicolas Sarkozy, who is a staunch PSG fan. He wouldn't mix up PSG with Rennes, or Aston Villa with West Ham...

  20. TWENTY TO GO

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

    PSG celebrate

PSG are 20 minutes away from being crowned French champions. Unless Montpellier score twice - and even then that might not be enough to deny them. Second-placed Lyon, who are six points behind PSG with only one match left after tonight, are drawing 1-1 at home to Bordeaux.

  21. SUBSTITUTION

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

Time for a tactical switch from PSG. Laurent Blanc scribbles down the name of Lucas Moura on the substitution sheet, with goalscorer Ezequiel Lavezzi trudging off the pitch for the Brazilian.

  22. Post update

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

These Montpellier chances are arriving quicker than Tube trains at Oxford Circus now. Another ball from a wide area, this time from the right and in open play, is scuffed goalwards by half-time substitute Kevin Berigaud but deflected wide. He wants - and should be given - a corner but the referee thinks otherwise and gives a goal kick.

  23. CLOSE!

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    David Luiz

Montpellier almost nick an equaliser! A free-kick is whipped into the PS box from the left flank, the ball pings off the shin of David Luiz and opposite centre-half Hilton reacts the quickest. But his sliding effort is blocked by a white PSG shirt as the visitors survive. A point would still be enough for PSG to claim the title.

  24. Post update

    Sampdoria 0-1 Lazio

    Italian Serie A

Lazio are very much in control of this game and look more likely to get the second goal on the counter attack. Filip Dordevic has one such chance when he sweeps the ball goalwards only for Sampdoria defender Luca Rizzo to readjust his body to get a last-ditch block in.

  25. Stat attack

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

    Anthony Mounier

Montpellier forward Anthony Mounier has now scored nine goals in Ligue 1 this season, the best total of his career. Unfortunately he won't be adding to that tally today - he has been subbed, presumably because of a knock.

  26. Post update

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

Like the first half, the restart has burst into life around the 15-minute mark. The game is flowing from end to end like a game of basketball at the moment. PSG goalscorers Ezequiel Lavezzi and Blaie Matuidi have a breakdown in communication as a promising attacking move ends with a loose pass.

  27. Post update

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

Bit of Montpellier pressure as they look to take advantage of any edginess from the champions-elect. Bryan Dabo tries to hammer a half clearance back towards with a vicious volley - but he doesn't connect cleanly and the ball spins hopelessly wide. That would have been a worldy.

  28. Post update

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

    PSG's Rabiot is tackled

Quiet start to the second half - pretty much like the first, which burst into life about the 15-minute mark. PSG waste a free-kick in a promising position as the home defence clear, before Serge Aurier's right-wing cross fails to pick out a fellow white shirt.

  29. SUBSTITUTION

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

There has also been a change in personnel for the home side, with goalscorer Anthony Mounier not reappearing after the break. Presume that is because of an injury rather than a tactical switch. Kevin Berigaud replaces him.

  31. KICK-OFF

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    PSG fans

The players have had their breather. And the coaches have had their say. Back underway in Montpellier...

  32. HALF-TIME

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

    PSG

PSG goalscorer Blaise Matuidi has caught the eye again with a typically energetic display. But do not expect to see the France international in the Premier League next season. Matuidi says he does not want to leave PSG after being linked with a move to Manchester United.

"I will be at Paris next season, unless the managers come and tell me they don't need me any more," said the 28-year-old midfielder, who is under contract until 2018.

"I feel good here, I'm valued by the coach, the managers and my team-mates. I love this city, I grew up here, everything's going well for me."

  33. GOAL

Sampdoria 0-1 Lazio - Santiago Gentiletti (54 mins)

    Italian Serie A

Sure enough Sampdoria's finishing has cost them as Lazio grab the lead from a corner. A dangerous inswinging delivery into the box and among all the jostling for position the ball drops at the back post and strikes the shin of the unmarked Santiago Gentiletti. There's just enough on power it to take it over the line despite a brave attempt to clear the ball by Samuel Eto'o.

  34. HALF-TIME

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

    Edinson Cavani, Vitorino Hilton
  35. HALF-TIME

    French Ligue 1

    Bastia 1-1 Caen

    Evian 1- 1 St-Etienne

    Guingamp 1-1 Toulouse

    Lille 0-2 Marseille

    Lyon 1-1 Bordeaux

    Monaco 1-0 Metz

    Nantes 1-1 Lorient

    Nice 1-1 Lens

    Reims 0-0 Rennes

  36. HALF-TIME

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

Of course, PSG could even afford to lose tonight and still put their hands on the Ligue 1 trophy if nearest rivals Lyon do not beat Bordeaux at home. At the moment it is all square at Stade de Gerland. Here's what is happening across France tonight....

  37. Post update

    Sampdoria 0-0 Lazio

    Italian Serie A

    Lazio players celebrate

We're back under way at the Luigi Ferraris stadium. As you can see Lazio have a pretty good recent record against Sampdoria but the hosts probably shaded the first half. And veteran frontman Samuel Eto'o misses a golden chance early in the second period after being sent clear only to fire wide with just Etrit Berisha to beat.

  38. HALF-TIME

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

You're going to be sick of this being drummed into you (but I'm making no apologies),

PSG are 45 minutes away from winning the French title. Laurent Blanc's men need just a point from Montpellier for a ménage à trois of Ligue 1 trophies.

  39. HALF-TIME

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

This is remarkable. Hilton is still dishing out some choice words to PSG rival Javier Pastore as they disappear down the Stade de la Mosson tunnel for a half-time swig of water. Think the Montpellier defender needs to cool down...

  40. INJURY TIME

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

Brazilian defender Hilton pushes the face of Javier Pastore as he remonstrates with the Argentine, sparking a brief melee between both sets of players. Trying to nutmeg a defender?! The cheek. Bit of an overreaction from the Montpellier man, I'd suggest. Referee Fredy Fautrel reaches for his cards - and brandishes the yellow one in the direction of both Hilton and Pastore.

  41. INJURY TIME

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

Two minutes of stoppage time, the fourth official reveals. PSG forward Javier Pastore tries to nutmeg Montpellier centre-back Hilton - twice - and the veteran defender is not happy.

  42. Post update

    French Ligue 1

    Lasne of Montpellier

Montpellier have the bit between their teeth now, their players looking reenergised by that fluky goal. Can they grab an equaliser before the break? Heading into injury-time....

  43. Post update

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

The volume has turned up a notch inside the Stade de la Mosson - the home fans have woken up. Remember PSG only need a point to win their third straight Ligue 1 title. Boss Laurent Blanc does not look too concerned yet.

  44. GOAL

    Montpellier 1-2 Paris St-Germain - Anthony Mounier

Montpellier haven't got the guile to find an opening - but they have got the luck! Anthony Mounier swings in a left-footed cross from the right flank and the ball flies over the head of PSG keeper Salvatore Sirigu into the net. I'm not having that he meant that. No chance.

    Anthony Mounier
  45. Post update

    Montpellier 0-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

Montpellier have a bit of respite as they stroke the ball around inside the PSG half. But they are not moving it quick enough - nor do they have the guile - to unlock the away defence.

  46. Post update

    Montpellier 0-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

Every PSG player is after a slice of the scoring pie tonight. Midfielder Adrien Rabiot takes a pot shot from distance but does not call Montpellier keeper Jonathan Ligani into action. The champions-elect might as well put out a groundsheet and pitch up a tent - they are camped in the home half now.

  47. Post update

    Montpellier 0-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

Edinson Cavani. Discuss? For my money he is, alongside Robert Lewandowski, one of the most overrated strikers in Europe. There, I've said it.

And, right on cue, the Uruguayan scuffs another good opportunity into the hands of Montpellier keeper Jonathan Ligali.

  48. HALF-TIME

    Sampdoria 0-0 Lazio

    Italian Serie A

    Pedro Obiang

A contender for Serie A's miss of the season by Pedro Obiang on the stroke of half-time. A brilliant run down the right flank from Lorenzo De Silvestri and he cuts it back for Obiang who, with the goal at his mercy, blazes over the crossbar. Obiang puts his head in his hands and the look on his face is of complete disbelief. The quality of the finishing is going to have to improve in the second half.

  49. Post update

    Montpellier 0-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

Of course, PSG are on a seven-match winning streak so clearly have plenty of confidence pumping through their veins. Yohan Cabaye - a man known for liking the spectacular - tries his luck from distance but the ball flies harmlessly over the Montpellier crossbar.

  50. Post update

    Montpellier 0-2 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

    PSG fans

Few would have bet against PSG nicking the point that they needed tonight, but perhaps they didn't see the swaggering performance which is coming with it. The visitors are brimming with confidence....

  51. GOAL

    Montpellier 0-2 Paris St-Germain - Ezequiel Lavezzi (25 mins)

    Ezequiel Lavezzi

What's that noise that I can hear inside the Stade de la Mosson? Oh, it is the sound of champagne corks popping in the away dressing room. PSG are closing on the Ligue 1 title as Ezequiel Lavezzi lashes in a crisp finish from Serge Aurier's low right-wing cross. This could be a rugby score....

  52. Post update

    Montpellier 0-1 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

Free-kick in a promising position on the right wing for Montpellier. The big lads from the back saunter forward into the PSG box, with the visitors suspiciously eyeing up the man who they are down to mark. But a Montpellier head cannot get near the ball as PSG clear.

  53. Post update

    Montpellier 0-1 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

Little response so far from the home side, before we have a brief break in play as Montpellier midfielder Jamel Saihi goes down to a heap. A quick rub of the physio's magic sponge does the trick and he is back on his feet.

  54. CLOSE!

    Sampdoria 0-0 Lazio

    Italian Serie A

Lazio hit Sampdoria on the counter attack and almost grab the lead. Felipe Anderson's dangerous low cross causes panic inside the home side's box but veteran six-yard box poacher Miroslav Klose cannot get the decisive touch after the ball deflects off defender Lorenzo De Silvestri and Sampdoria goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano smoothers the ball. Almost immediately at the other end Sampdoria go close when Roberto Soriano's angled show flashes past the post.

  55. Post update

    Montpellier 0-1 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

Let's recap for those at the back. PSG need just a point tonight to claim their third successive Ligue 1 title remember - they are well on their way to nabbing all three.

  56. GOAL

    Montpellier 0-1 Paris St-Germain - Blaise Matuidi (17 mins)

    Blaise Matuidi

Breakthrough! PSG join the Ligue 1 goalscoring party - and move a massive step closer to a title shindig tonight. France midfielder Blaise Matuidi is the man who picks a hole in the Montpellier defence, taking a neat touch before firing into the bottom corner.

  57. Post update

  59. Post update

    Sampdoria 0-0 Lazio

    Samuel Eto'o

Sampdoria striker Samuel Eto'o has won all three of his games against Lazio in Serie A, scoring two goals and approaching the half-hour mark and he sees a daisy cutter from the edge of the box gathered by Lazio goalkeeper Etrit Berish. Still goalless in Genoa.

  60. Post update

    Montpellier 0-0 Paris St-Germain

Montpellier enjoy plenty of possession inside the PSG half, but can't find a route through the away defence at the moment.

While they toil for a breakthrough, the goals are flying in around Ligue 1. Most importantly, second-placed Lyon are back on level terms against Bordeaux. Nabil Fekir's equaliser has made it 1-1 at Stade de Gerland.

    Montpellier 0-0 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

I should have pointed out earlier that all 20 teams in the French top-flight have kicked off at the same time tonight. So if you're desperate to find out the score between Bastia and Caen then you are in the right place.

Back in Montpellier, Edinson Cavani wriggles into space inside the home penalty box as young keeper Jonathan Ligali nervously hares off his line. But the Uruguayan striker loses all composure and fires over the bar.

  63. Post update

    Montpellier 0-0 Paris St-Germain

    Edison Cavani

Ezequiel Lavezzi almost connects with a vicious cross inside the Montpellier area as PSG go close. But wait! There has been a goal in the match between second-placed Lyon and Bordeaux. And it is good news for PSG....

Bordeaux snatch an early lead, meaning - as it stands - PSG could lose and still win the title.

  64. Post update

    Montpellier 0-0 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

    Jonas Martin

Montpellier recover from that early scare by immediately springing forward on the counter attack. Midfielder Jonas Martin bursts into the left channel of the box, only to slice high over the PSG bar.

  65. Post update

    Sampdoria 0-0 Lazio

    Italian Serie A

    Roberto Soriano, Cristian Ledesma

Not much to choose between the teams at the Luigi Ferraris stadium with both sides giving the ball away cheaply in a hectic opening 15 minutes. Both defences look a bit nervy. An attempted lob by Sampdoria striker Samuel Eto'o the best chance so far.

  66. Post update

    Montpellier 0-0 Paris St-Germain

    French Ligue 1

Early chance for PSG as Ezequiel Lavezzi scampers after a big hoof from the back. The Argentine's can't reach the ball with an outstretched toe - then he is unceremoniously dumped to the ground by the shoulder of a Montpellier defender. Legal challenge, says the referee.

  67. KICK-OFF

    Montpellier 0-0 Paris St-Germain

The referee, decked out in a traditional all-black kit, checks all 22 players are out on the pitch, looks at his watch, then toots his whistle for the first time. Game on!

    Montpellier v Paris St-Germain (20:00 BST)

The sun is setting in Montpellier as the two teams stride out into the Stade de la Mosson. Can the home side dim PSG's title hopes tonight?

PSG boss Laurent Blanc looks focused as he shakes hands with the match officials. Quick run-down of the teams, you say? Go on then...

  70. Montpellier eye European slot

    Montpellier v Paris St-Germain (20:00 BST)

Can Montpellier replicate Crystal Palace's role as partypoopers? The home side have plenty of motivation of their own to beat PSG and stop the visitors winning the title today.

Rolland Courbis' side are just three points off sixth-placed Bordeaux - and the two teams go head to head on the final weekend of the season.

And if PSG win the Coupe de France, then sixth would be enough to secure Europa League qualification.

  71. Stats of the day

    Montpellier v Paris St-Germain (19:00 BST)

    • PSG can become tonight the fourth team to win the Ligue 1 three years in a row after St Etienne, Marseille and Lyon.
    • If PSG beat Montpellier it will be their eight straight victory and equals their longest run of wins in the top-flight.

    Samuel Eto'o

If you were to leave Montpellier for a five-hour, picturesque drive along the Cote d'Azur, then you would end up in the Italian city of Genoa.

And, by coincidence, that is where tonight's other big European match is taking place. Capital club Lazio have arrived in town to play sixth-placed Sampdoria as they pursue second place behind recently-crowned champions Juventus. Game on in Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris.

Roma, who host Udinese on Saturday, are currently second with 64 points - one ahead of their capital rivals, who are three in front of Rafa Benitez's Napoli.

A second-place finish earns an automatic place in next season's Champions League group stage, while the third-place side face the qualifying round.

  76. Post update

    Montpellier v Paris St-Germain (20:00 BST)

    Paris St-Germain

Reims couldn't do it. Marseille didn't do it. Nor did Lyon. But PSG can.

The Parisians are aiming to become the first team to win a Ligue 1, French Cup and French League Cup treble.

The leaders, who need a point tonight for their third straight Ligue 1 title, lifted the Coupe de la Ligue with a 4-0 win against Bastia last month and face second-tier Auxerre in the Cupe de France final on 30 May.

"We know what we have to do, winning as always. It's the most important game of the season," says coach Laurent Blanc.

  77. Post update

Bonjour mes amis! The English title race is done and dusted, the German title race was all over last month, and the Italian title race was - quite frankly - a sprint finish by Juventus.

Thank goodness for our Gallic friends providing some entertainment. Marseille made the early running, with Lyon taking over before defending champions PSG made a late burst.

Now Laurent Blanc's side need just a point at seventh-placed Montpellier tonight to win Ligue 1 and lift the second trophy in their bid for an unprecedented French treble.
