  1. The day belongs to Manchester City

    Toni Duggan

That's it for today. Manchester City come out on top and Sunderland stay top of the heap, as Chelsea's unbeaten league record at home comes to an end.

Be sure to join us for our next women's football live text on Saturday, 1 August when Chelsea take on Notts County in the first Women's FA Cup final to be held at Wembley Stadium.

    We'll see you then!

  2. Midweek action still to come

    FT: Chelsea 1-2 Manchester City

While Chelsea's attentions turn to the Women's FA Cup final against Notts County at Wembley Stadium next Saturday, Manchester City are back in action on Wednesday.

The WSL 1 side entertain second-tier outfit Durham in one of four Continental Tyres Cup group games.

There is also a West Country derby to look forward to on Thursday, with WSL 2 high-flyer Yeovil Town taking on the top-tier's bottom side, Bristol Academy.

  3. Post update

    FT: Chelsea 1-2 Manchester City

So, what does all of that mean for the table?

Well, defeat sees Sunderland maintain their place at the top of Women's Super League One, with Arsenal second on goal difference and Chelsea a point off the summit in third.

It is a remarkable effort by Carlton Fairweather's Lady Black Cats after nine games, given they only won promotion from the second-tier last season.

  4. Post update

    FT: Chelsea 1-2 Manchester City

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

    Emma Hayes

Chelsea Ladies boss Emma Hayes on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "It was a cruel way to end the game. A draw would have probably been a fair result. It's important that the squad bounce back to get ready for Saturday.

"While everybody is licking their chops about us losing today, I promise you this league has got a long way to go."

  5. Post update

    FT: Chelsea 1-2 Manchester City

Manchester City captain Steph Houghton told BT Sport: "We've got to believe we can win the title. In the first half of the season we had a few key players missing, a few injuries, but we feel now coming back from the World Cup we've gelled really well.

"To come here and dig out a result like that, we should be really proud of ourselves."

  6. Post update

    FT: Chelsea 1-2 Manchester City

Manchester City captain Steph Houghton told BT Sport: "We knew coming here was going to be a tough game. Chelsea have been in form.

"We played really well against them at home and were unfortunate not to come away with the win so today the main objective was to win and thankfully we did that."

  7. Post update

    FT: Chelsea 1-2 Manchester City

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Bristol Academy goalkeeper Mary Earps on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "I don't think Chelsea can have too many complaints. It was a game off too halves, but City were the stronger side.

  8. FULL-TIME

    Chelsea 1-2 Manchester City

    Toni Duggan

And there it is - a first home defeat for Chelsea of 2015.

An own goal from Claire Rafferty from Steph Houghton's fierce free-kick sees Manchester City prevail at Staines Town.

No team had beaten Chelsea at home in the Women's Super League since September 2013.

  9. Post update

    Chelsea 1-2 Manchester City

Now into the third and final minute of stoppage time. Is that it for Chelsea?

  10. Great Save

    Chelsea 1-2 Manchester City

Nikita Parris cuts into the box from the left and calls on Hedvig Lindahl to make a crucial save at her near post.

  11. Post update

    Chelsea 1-2 Manchester City

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Bristol Academy goalkeeper Mary Earps on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "Chelsea will be really disappointed with that. They've been the better side in this second half. They've given away an unnecessary free-kick, and that's the danger with set-pieces."

  12. GOAL

Chelsea 1-2 Manchester City (OG Rafferty)

There will be arguments that Steph Houghton went down easily on the edge of the area under pressure from Claire Rafferty.

A feather touch or not, the goal counts as England captain Houghton's free-kick comes off Rafferty as she tries to get her head behind the shot.

Hedvig Lindhl was stranded and Chelsea's unbeaten home record looking in real danger.

  13. SUBSTITUTION

    Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City

Chelsea with their second change as Gemma Davison is replaced by Ana Borges.

  14. Post update

    Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City

Glimpses of match-winning moments are beginning to come in numbers for Chelsea.

Jo So-Yun just can't get enough on a header, and Eniola Aluko tries to be a little too clever inside the box trying to carve a follow-up effort.

  15. Chance

    Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City

Two big chances for Ji So-Yun in the space of just a minute.

The first, Ji brings the ball down nicely on her chest but fluffs her shot when her usual composure is all she needed. The South Korea international was just a tad too eager to make amends as she was caught off-side moments later.

  16. SUBSTITUTION

    Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City

And that was Daphne Corboz's last act of the match, with Krystle Johnston coming on to replace the American.

  17. Post update

    Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City

Daphne Corboz, the United States Under-23 international, sends a shot well over the bar. On target it was not, but the midfielder has shown all day that she does not lack the confidence.

  18. YELLOW CARD

    Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City

Nikita Parris turns and draws the foul from Chelsea defender Niamh Fahey.

The free-kick is in a promising position too, but is only clattered into bodies.

  19. A record crowd

    Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City

    Toni Duggan

The PA announcer has just bellowed today's attendance out over the tannoy and, as it happens, a very respectable 1,857 people are at the ground watching these two battle it out this afternoon.

That's a record attendance for Chelsea at Staines Town.

  20. Post update

    Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City

Jennifer Beattie comes rushing across to cut off an opening for Chelsea as substitute Laura Coombs looked to get in on goal.

The threat is not completely over until Eniola Aluko puts too much on a header from a Gemma Davison cross.

  21. Post update

    Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Bristol Academy goalkeeper Mary Earps on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "Man City haven't allowed Ji So-Yun any time on the ball at all. She's been closed down as soon as she gets on the ball. The centre-backs aren't letting her turn.

"She's a very, very good player, with great feet and a footballing brain. It's a compliment to her that she's not being given any time."

  22. Post update

    Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City

Space opens up, and a chance beckons as Gemma Davison slips a long pass down to Eniola Aluko.

But the England striker's touch completely failed her and whatever was in the offing disappears in a moment.

  23. SUBSTITUTION

    Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City

Chelsea make the first change of the match and it is Drew Spence who is is replaced by Laura Coombs.

  24. Post update

    Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City

Isobel Christiansen just did not want to give up possession for Manchester City.

With the sheer determination of the midfielder the ball is whipped in, forcing Hedvig Lindahl to collect at the near post to defuse the danger.

  25. Post update

    Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City

Drew Spence is having a busy half and has Manchester City chasing here a little.

Jennifer Beattie stopped the midfielder in the middle of the park and gave up a free-kick. Then, moments later, Spence is free down the right and skips a ball across the box looking for Eniola Aluko.

  26. Post update

    Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City

Manchester City are knocking on the door with menace.

Daphne Corboz forced Hedvig Lindahl to react and, from the resulting corner, the goalkeeper is again called into action.

  27. Post update

    Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City

Eniola Aluko cuts in off the left and, just as she seems to have tried to do too much, Gemma Davison collects the ball and dangerously swaps possession with Drew Spence.

However, the threat peters out just on the edge of the box.

  28. Post update

    Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City

Gilly Flaherty times her tackle perfectly for Chelsea. And she needed to as she put Lucy Bronze firmly down in the box.

  29. Post update

    Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Bristol Academy goalkeeper Mary Earps on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "That was a great finish. Quick feet, to open up a little bit of space, and then she took it really well.

"Maybe Man City weren't expecting the ball to fall for Eni Aluko quite like that, but she shifted her weight well."

  30. GOAL

    Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City (Aluko)

    Eniola Aluko

Eniola Aluko levels for Chelsea. She takes the ball outside the box, with a dink and step of pace she makes just enough room to elude Steph Houghton and get a snap-shot off to beat Karen Bardsley.

  31. KICK-OFF

    Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

Chelsea have 45 minutes to salvage something from this match and keep their unbeaten home league record intact.

It is a run that stretches back to 29 September 2013, when they lost to a Lincoln Ladies side that are now called Notts County.

  32. Earlier today...

Arsenal gave their Women's Super League One title hopes a huge boost, fighting back to beat Notts County 2-1 to go above Chelsea and into second.

Natalia Pablos Sanchon netted the winner for the Gunners after Dan Carter cancelled out Jess Clarke's effort for the Lady Magpies.

Elsewhere, Karen Carney's penalty against Liverpool was enough to give Birmingham City their first league win of the season.

  33. Post update

    Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Scotland and Bristol Academy midfielder Christie Murray on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "It's been a good game. Chelsea have started working their way back into it.

"The league is very competitive. Everyone can beat everyone on their day and that makes is more exciting for the fans."

  34. What the history books say

Chelsea v Manchester City (18:30 BST)

Prior to today, Chelsea have celebrated every time they have met Manchester City this season.

In the space of six days in May Emma Hayes's side booked a place in the first Women's FA Cup final at Wembley with victory over City in the last four, before then finishing the first half of the league campaign unbeaten with a 1-1 draw at Academy Stadium.

Last season, these sides shared the spoils but it was Manchester City doing all the partying.

City beat the Blues on the way to lifting the Continental Cup, and on the final day of the campaign, victory for Manchester City denied Chelsea the WSL 1 title.

  36. HALF-TIME

    Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

Toni Duggan's goal on 12 minutes puts visitors Manchester City on top at Staines Town.

As it stands, Chelsea remain third in the table with Sunderland occupying top spot on goal difference ahead of Arsenal in second.

  37. Post update

    Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

Eniola Aluko showing the pace and makes her such a threat here.

She links up with Ji So-Yon, but the South Korean just fails to fashion room for herself and her effort is blocked.

  38. Post update

    Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Bristol Academy goalkeeper Mary Earps on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "We've seen two teams with very similar styles come out and play. Chelsea started a little bit slower than City, which is why City are 1-0 up but, apart from that, there's not been much between them."

  39. Chance

    Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

That is as good a chance as any for Chelsea this half. The ball falls nicely for Eniola Aluko in the box, but Lucy Bronze gets a block in there.

And that was all orchestrated by Hannah Blundell, putting her head down and forcing space for herself with a run down the right.

  40. Post update

    Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

Chelsea look to have picked up their game a little, moving the ball quickly and with confidence.

But, for all their endeavour, the defensive organisation of Manchester City is making them force the issue and lose possession without doing any damage.

  41. Post update

    Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

    Jennifer Beattie

Jennifer Beattie is currently getting some attention on her left knee after clashing with Chelsea's Katie Chapman.

Apart from a souvenir mark for her effort, Beattie looks to shake it off and continue with a hop.

  42. Post update

    Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

Ji So-Yun is poking and prodding for weaknesses in Manchester City's defence, but every team-mate she finds is stood in front of a wall of sky blue figures.

Eventually, Millie Bright has a crack. Wild and harmless in the end.

  43. Post update

    Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

No love lost there. Chelsea's Claire Rafferty does not hesitate in sliding into her England bronze-medal-winning World Cup team-mate Lucy Bronze, who is awarded a free-kick for Manchester City.

  44. Post update

    Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

    Eniola Aluko

Bristol Academy goalkeeper Mary Earps on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "Chelsea look a little frustrated. City have had a lot of the ball.

"The Chelsea that I've played against this season have been quite loud, but they seem quiet at the moment. They'll be looking to change that.

"Eni Aluko is being given a lot of space and I think they need to capitalise on that."

  45. Post update

    Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

Chelsea's Drew Spence and Manchester City's Jennifer Beattie look to occupy the same part of turf with their boot and Spence gets a free-kick for her efforts.

  46. Post update

    Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

Ji So-Yun picks out Eniola Aluko on the left edge of box, but the England forward fails to make the most out of the time and space and fires well off target for the hosts.

  47. Post update

    Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

Chelsea are chasing the game, and really chasing top spot, after 20 minutes of this Women's Super League One match - but Manchester City are looking calm and considered with everything they are doing at Staines Town.

  48. Free-Kick

    Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

Kathleen Radkte stops Chelsea's Gemma Davison in full flight to give away a free-kick in a dangerous area.

However, the ball in from wide on the right is a tad too high and long.

  49. Post update

    Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Bristol Academy goalkeeper Mary Earps on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "That happened very quickly. It was a great ball, and a great finish from Toni Duggan.

"To put the ball in the corner from that angle was fantastic. Very clinical."

  50. GOAL

    Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City (Duggan)

    Toni Duggan

Great finish from Toni Duggan a day after her birthday. She brings the ball down neatly on the edge of the area, and cool as you like, curls it beyond Hedvig Lindahl.

That was her fifth Women's Super League goal of the season.

  51. Free-kick

    Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

Steph Houghton lashes a low free-kick under the wall and on target, but Hedvig Lindahl gets down at her near post easily enough for the hosts.

  52. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

Patient build-up play from Manchester City, but the visitors are failing to trouble Chelsea in any way.

However, with Toni Duggan always looking to dart in off the flank they remain an ominous threat with possession.

  53. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

Gemma Davison gets the first shot on goal for Chelsea, certainly not shy about running at Manchester City's defence to test nerves early on.

  54. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Bristol Academy goalkeeper Mary Earps on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "There are a lot of good quality players on show today.

"Jill Scott has been in great form for Manchester City, as has Izzie Christiansen.

"But you can't take away from the pace of Gemma Davison for Chelsea and the footballing intelligence of Ji So-Yun."

  55. Post update

    Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

The rain may have been lashing it down in most parts of Britain today, including London, but sunshine has greeted these Women's Super League sides for the last of the weekend's action.

  56. KICK-OFF

    Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

And Manchester City get us under way here. Both sides in their familiar colours.

  60. Team news

Chelsea v Manchester City (18:30 BST)

    Fran Kirby

Fran Kirby, the player nicknamed 'mini-Messi' and who is reported to have attracted a British women's record transfer fee, will have to wait a little longer for her Chelsea debut as she's missing from their line-up tonight.

But while one of England's bronze-medal wining World Cup stars is missing from the list, Claire Rafferty, Eniola Aluko, Katie Chapman all start against Manchester City. With South Korea's Ji So-Yun and goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl of Sweden also lining up for the hosts, there is no shortage of World Cup pedigree.

The full compliment of Lionesses are suiting up for Manchester City today, led by England captain Steph Houghton and including Karen Bardsley, Lucy Bronze, Toni Duggan and Jill Scott.

  61. Chelsea gunning to go top again

A win this evening would send Chelsea straight back to the summit of Women's Super League One, after Sunderland's win at Bristol Academy last night saw them grab top spot.

Having led the way since the start of the season, Emma Hayes's side have now slipped to third after Arsenal came from behind to beat Notts County 2-1 earlier today.

Tonight, they host big-spending Manchester City at Staines Town, as the title race starts to get serious.
