Start as they mean to go on?

Victory for Arsenal not only ends Arsene Wenger's long wait for victory over Jose Mourinho, but perhaps deals an early psychological blow, while suggesting Chelsea could well have a fight on their hands as they look to retain the league title.

This Premier League apertif has certainly whet the appetite for the season ahead, which gets under way this weekend.

I'll leave you with the match report and highlights and we'll be back on Saturday for the big kick-off but until then, goodbye.

Player reaction

Arsenal 1-0 Chelsea

"This squad’s been together for a good number of years now, and with the signing of Petr Cech we’ve been lifted. He’s such an amazing player and has already shown what a good signing he is. There is a really good feeling about this season but you never want to speak too soon. The real work starts next week.

Alex Oxlade-ChamberlainArsenal midfielder, speaking to BT Sport

Here's the moment just after Jose Mourinho had waited to shake the hand of every Arsenal player. Arsene Wenger had opted to walk behind him and Mourinho turned and walked down the tunnel. Both ignoring each other.

Snub-tastic.

Manager reaction

Arsenal 1-0 Chelsea

We were the best team. We had more initiative, we controlled the game by having ball possession. But when a team is behind, the energy and intensity to turn results around is more difficult because people are not sharp. Arsenal defended with 10 players, they put everybody in front of their own line and they had good organisation, congratulations to them. They had a couple of chances in counter attacks but we had ours in organised football. They played their game tactically and found themselves one goal in front without any reason, included players in the back and they did well. This season the Premier League title is very difficult but it is very difficult for everyone. The way other teams are spending they have big power in the hands while we are the same as last season. And with that we are going to try.

Right then, let's get some Jose Mourinho reaction.

Naturally expecting him to lavish praise on Arsene Wenger and a deserved win for his side...

'Win keeps our confidence high'

Arsenal 1-0 Chelsea

It’s a start and it keeps our confidence high. Petr Cech has so much experience and gives us a huge boost before the start of the season. We try our best and when Alexis Sanchez is back we have a good squad."

No handshakes between Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger at the end there.

'We have been solid defensively'

Arsenal 1-0 Chelsea

We have suffered physically today and the pitch was not great. But overall it's good because in pre-season we have been solid defensively. Pre-season has gone quite well. We have no big injuries at the moment apart from Jack Wilshere who we lost yesterday."

Cue fireworks as Arsenal players hold aloft the Community Shield and celebrate yet another trophy - three out of three now in pre-season.

As the players make their way back down on to the pitch, Jose Mourinho waits for them and shakes each Arsenal player's hand, reserving a big hug for Petr Cech.

Nice touch.

Andrew Giwa: A fantastic win for Arsenal, yes but this is just a pre-season event. Hopefully Arsenal replicate this over 38 games.

Rishabh Kapoor: All the Chelsea fans look happy about Falcao's "movement". Please don't let that fool you about his awful finishing. Sincerely, a Man Utd fan.

'Our good streak keeps going'

Arsenal 1-0 Chelsea

BBC Radio 5 Live

It's really nice to come to Wembley and win. We wanted to keep our good streak here going. We are delighted to win another trophy and for me personally, I'm happy I got the winner. I don't actually think I've lost at Wembley. Long may it continue. Today was a big game for us and we wanted to lay down a marker for our manager and our fans. I want to contribute more goals this season, it's a target I've set for myself, and of course I'm happy to have got the goal today."

New Wembley is becoming a happy hunting ground for Arsenal. After failing to win their first three games there, they have won their last five.

"It was a hard fought match. It certainly meant a lot to the players, as to what it will mean over the season, time will tell, but Arsenal and Arsene Wenger have finally broken their Jose Mourinho hoodoo.

"Psychologically, you need to win trophies. For a long time Arsenal did not win enough. But now they are used to victories at Wembley. There was very little between the two teams but in the end, Arsenal won it 1-0. That's not a scoreline you would have thought of a while ago."

In fact, it is Arsenal who almost score as Kieran Gibbs is put through courtesy of a smart pass by Santi Cazorla, Thibaut Courtois is alert to it though and quick off his line to deny the shot.

Jose Mourinho is on the verge of tasting defeat at the hands of Arsene Wenger for the first time. Thirteen previous meetings, and no defeats. He looks angry about it too.

Time is fast running out, and Chelsea really don't look like scoring.

On Cazorla chance: "Brilliant all round. The hold-up play from Olivier Giroud, the run from Aaron Ramsey, his lovely pass into Santi Cazorla, and you cannot blame the Spaniard for missing one-on-one with Thibaut Courtois. The minute you take a touch Courtois is on you."

Now then, a bit of a fracas as Nemanja Matic is brought down. Mikel Arteta and Radamel Falcao exchange a few angry words before the ref calms things down.

Cesc Fabregas then floats the free-kick in for Branislav Ivanovic, who heads over from close range.

Should have been 2-0, no question.

Great work by Aaron Ramsey as he squares a pass across the area for the unmarked Santi Cazorla. He just has Thibaut Courtois to beat but dithers and Courtois blocks his shot. Ramsey then sends the follow up wide.

"I think Chelsea will go to three at the back now, with Willian and Victor Moses playing as wing-backs. We've not seen that before from Jose Mourinho. Maybe it's a new tactical option for the new season.

"Falcao's movement has been good since he came on, I'm liking the runs he's been making. He'll definitely benefit from having Cesc Fabregas in midfield, but Arsenal have been defending against him really well. Every time Falcao gets the ball Laurent Koscielny gets tight and two midfielders drop to surround him."

SUBSTITUTION

More changes as Mesut Ozil is replaced by Kieran Gibbs for Arsenal while for Chelsea, John Terry goes off and Victor Moses come on.

Moses, who has spent the last couple of years out on loan, scored against PSG in pre-season and has generally impressed. Could he be more involved this season?

Arsenal, though, look capable on the counter and Thibaut Courtois has to be alert to hold Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's deflected shot.
