Not much doing so far on the comeback - but the Watford fans are in brilliant voice.

Looks like Kevin Mirallas hasn't recovered from that challenge earlier - he's been replaced by Bryan Oviedo. 

Finally the Everton crowd have got something to cheer and finally they're getting behind their team. 

I wouldn't be so sure we've seen Watford play their final card yet though.

Ross Barkley with a brilliant, darting strike from outside the box brings Everton level.

Odion Ighalo is on for Jose Manuel Jurado. Quique Flores not settling just yet then. 

I recall Ighalo smashing in a brilliant goal against Middlesbrough last season.

Brilliant from Heurelho Gomes - out off his line as quick as a flash to punch away a loose cross. 

Seamus Coleman's ball in ended up pinging off Arouna Kone at the far post. Pretty sure it wasn't intended to go that far though. 

Just under 20 to go now, for the home side to find something. Can they do it?

Kevin Mirallas isn't having much of a better time of it either. 

He's just been floored by a late challenge from Behrami - the ball was long gone and it looked very nasty. 

More momentum than malice? There's no card from the referee.

Romelu Lukaku is just not picking up the ball in the right areas...

Here's Arouna Kone! A really big chance for the sub, unmarked, seven yards out, on his head, but Heurelho Gomes is untroubled in the Watford goal. Should be doing better there.

Ikechi Anya - he's rapid! Is he going all the way? 

John Stones is there with a solid block to snuff out the danger.

I have to say, that little period of zip and zest seems to have gone the way of the wind, for now at least. 

Everton look very much like they're labouring to a defeat here, and Roberto Martinez shuffles his pack.

A change for the visitors as Juan Carlos Paredes comes on for goalscorer Miguel Layun.

Roberto Martinez is out of his seat on the sidelines. He must be happier with what he's seeing.

YELLOW CARD

Much, much better from Everton. 

The home side almost conjure a chance for Romelu Lukaku to turn in from a James McCarthy cross on the right. It's cleared but the pace of their play is much improved.

Another ball in looking for Romelu Lukaku - he's already had about the same amount of touches he had in the first half - but the Belgian is offside.

How did Romelu Lukaku miss that? 

He was probably stretching a tad - maybe Seamus Coleman's cross was just too high - but on first glance it looked for all the world like Everton would be level at 1-1. 

His header zings agonisingly wide of the post, with Heurelho Gomes done by the ball in.

Was that a shot? 

Probably not, but Kevin Mirallas forces Heurelho Gomes into another good save. 

His cross is tipped over the bar, but it probably wasn't going in.

That's better from Romelu Lukaku but it's still not quite on the money. A chest down, a turn and a cross into the box, easily claimed by Heurelho Gomes. 

Craig Cathcart pings one up to Miguel Layun, darting in from the right wing for Watford, but the ball reaches the stands.

A lovely little flick from Kevin Mirallas and Seamus Coleman is on his bike down the right wing - a blocked cross and here's Mirallas racing in with the corner... 

It's poor though. 

KICK-OFF

We are back under way. No changes at half-time. 

Here we go then. We're nearly ready for the second half. 

Everton are already out there, but Watford are feeling a little bit more relaxed about affairs.

Here's an interesting one - which of these two images shows Romelu Lukaku's first-half touches, and which is Troy Deeney's?

The Watford striker has been by far the busier of the two so far. Always an outlet.

There certainly wasn't much to cheer about from an Everton perspective in that first half though. 

Watford have been organised, and they've taken their chance well. But still, the Toffees should be doing better at home. 

HALF-TIME

The last action of the first half sees yet another Everton attack fade out.

There are few boos around the ground. Bit early for that isn't it?

Almost a sensational second for the Mexican - his left-footed zinger zips past Tim Howard's far post. 

Two minutes for Everton to hang on/grab one back.

Can they nick one back before half-time, the home side? 

Heurelho Gomes's arm says no. He's out to snub out a long ball, with Romelu Lukaku on the chase. There were cries for handball, but the wandering Brazilian was just inside his box.

Just under two minutes to play, plus stoppages.

YELLOW CARD

This one could be a big talking point later on, for Match of the Day. 

Troy Deeney goes in the book for a lunge on Brendan Galloway, with the ball knocking around the Everton box. 

Replays suggest it was pretty much two-footed. A red?

Phil Jagielka - has he done too much there? He covers well to clear up a rare long ball forward from Watford, but gives it straight back to the closing Etienne Capoue. 

The Frenchman drives an effort at Tim Howard, but it's tame and on the ground, not even cutting the daisies.

Again! Just when you think it's opening up, Ross Barkley seems to just delay the final ball and the moment's gone. 

He'd torn himself away from the packed midfield when the ball popped out to him, and for a few seconds the noise in the ground rose in expectation. 

Frustration is the word of the day so far. 

Ross Barkley's definitely showing a bit more urgency, dropping very deep to take charge of the ball. 

"There's less than 10 minutes to go until half-time lads." 

There's still not much encouragement from the stands but Everton are growing into the rhythm of the game a bit more now. 

Still no touches to report from Romelu Lukaku - he heads at thin air trying to get onto a cross from the right and is penalised by the ref. I think he had a hand on each of the Watford defenders around him.

For all their possession, that's probably as close Everton have come.

Watford are looking dangerous on the break, and have been defending pretty well so far.

Oooh! Much better this though, from Ross Barkley. 

Heurelho Gomes has to stretch and tip his fizzing effort, cutting in from the left, over the bar. He was just getting his eye in before.

Maybe James McCarthy was right to turn back inside earlier on. Must do better with that, the youngster.

Kevin Mirallas is next to be crowded out. 

For a moment he looked like he had an opening to turn and shoot from a tight angle to the left of the goal, outside the box. 

One touch too many and he retreats to the now pretty much vacated midfield. Everyone back on the Watford box, bar Troy Dooney. 

Of Watford's new faces on show today so far I have to say Sebastian Prodl has been looking pretty good. 

He's made some brilliant decisions at centre-back. He's already stepped up to block three, maybe more, key passes.

Excellent play from Troy Deeney now to hold up play on the halfway line and bring in Etienne Capoue, darting forward from midfield. 

It comes to nothing but moments later he's at it again - dropping deep to collect the ball, and looking to play in Ikechi Anya. 

His opposite number Romelu Lukaku's done pretty much nothing so far. 

James McCarthy looks like he might have been lining one up from range but thinks better of it. 

Why not shoot now? Just have a go? 

Everton keep the ball but Watford are back in big numbers. Sebastian Prodl makes a brilliant interception as Ross Barkley looks to prise the defence open.

Well Gareth Barry nearly has a reply - his header is tipped over the bar by Heurelho Gomes.

He didn't even get one last season, Barry. Gomes did well but he looked pretty comfortable. Not too much of a stretch.

So far, there's not been much of one.

Roberto Martinez has already spoken about how much of a challenge the opening to this year's campaign will be.

I don't think he'd thought his side would be 1-0 down after less than 15 minutes though.

The Premier League newcomers are well on their way! 

The Everton defence fails to deal with an easy cross, it falls to Miguel Layun and he makes no mistake. A right-foot smash on the half volley 

Are the Hornets on the way to grabbing the win, too? 

There are a lot of bodies in midfield. 

Etienne Capoue and Gareth Barry are taking charge - first Everton win it and then Watford win it back. 

Slight sounds of frustration as Watford zip the ball about in front of Tim Howard. 

There's a chance for Troy Deeney but he's stretching, no good.

Here comes Brendan Galloway again - momentarily rampaging up the left as Everton look to break. He's definitely got a bit of zip about him this fella. 

Watford are back in numbers, though. Galloway sensibly sets it back to the centre-halves, and normal service is resumed. 

Normal service = pretty tentative play so far. Both sides felling the other out.

Brendan Galloway will be an interesting one to keep an eye on today. 

He's just 19 and is making his third league appearance for Everton - Leighton Baines picked up a knock in training. 

He looks pretty rapid and it's his pace that helps him get back to slide in and clear for a Watford corner with Ikechi Anya threatening to break through on goal.

Sebastian Prodl and John Stones get a ticking off - "it was him ref" - before Heurelho Gomes gathers, throws, and launches a Watford counter. Seamus Coleman does well to snuff it out.

A first few touches for Ross Barkley. He's straight back into that groove of his - all dipping shoulders and jinky legs.  

A Gareth Barry long ball looks for Romelu Lukaku but Craig Cathcart scratches it away. 

Kevin Mirallas squirming his way down the right wing forces a throw. He looked so dangerous last season, the Belgian.

Tom Cleverley gets a big cheer from the Goodison crowd. 

He's the only new face in Everton's line-up today. Spanish manager Roberto Martinez has said he needs three more before September.

But which three? Quality over quantity, right?

The John Stones saga

Can we call it a saga? Probably not, really. But there's beenplenty of talkabout the young Everton defender. 

Chelsea have had at least one bid rejected - reported to have been about £20m - as the Toffees stand firm. 

So firm, in fact, that manager Roberto Martinezcame out fightingin his pre-match news conference.

Will Stones be in blue in September? Yep. But which blue? How will he deal with the whole thing?
