  14. GOAL - Sunderland 1-1 Swansea

    Jermain Defoe

Sunderland are back in it thanks to a clinical finish from Jermain Defoe. Jeremain Lens is the provider as he sets up Defoe to angle a low shot into the far corner not to unlike Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis's opener.

  29. CLOSE

Yann M'Vila floats a free-kick into the Swansea box and, after the ball loops into the air after a Sebastian Coates header under pressure, Danny Graham attempts an overhead kick which is saved by Lukasz Fabianski via a deflection.

  30. Sunderland 0-0 Swansea

The game so far in graphic form...

    Sunderland v Swansea
  31. Sunderland 0-0 Swansea

Swansea midfielder Andre Ayew cuts in from the right hand side, runs across the area and sends a low left-foot shot wide.

  32. Sunderland 0-0 Swansea

Whatever was said at that Sunderland crisis meeting seems to have worked. It's hard to believe they are the same side who lost their opening two league games so meekly. Swansea may have had more possession but the Black Cats are starting to look the more threatening.

Sunderland players holding off Jefferson Montero

  35. YELLOW CARD

    Swansea 0-0 Sunderland

It looks like Swansea midfielder Andre Ayew has been identified as a danger man by Sunderland as he is on the end of a Lee Cattermole tackle which results in the Black Cats midfielder being booked.

    Lee Cattermole
  36. Sunderland 0-0 Swansea

Sunderland feel like they are being hard done by when it comes to referee Neil Swarbrick's decisions and the fans respond with some sarcastic applause after they get one given their way for a Neil Taylor foul on Jeremain Lens.

  37. Sunderland 0-0 Swansea

Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell is certainly making his presence felt and he is not happy about what he feels was an unfair call by the referee to punish him for a foul on Kyle Naughton.

  38. Sunderland 0-0 Swansea

Andre Ayew has scored two goals for Swansea so far this season and tries for a third with a long-range shot, only for his effort to go wide.

    Andre Ayew

    Dick Advocaat
  43. Sunderland 0-0 Swansea

We're only a couple of minutes in but, after Sunderland give away possession too easily, there are a few groans from the crowd.

  44. Anaylsis

    Sunderland v Swansea (15:00 BST)

    Kevin Kilbane

    Final Score

"The one big question for Sunderland fans is: Why can't we get that stability in the club? I think a lot of people would settle for mid-table, they're certainly a long way away from the top-six, but they can't seem to get away from the mould of being a club that battles relegation every year."

  46. Dark clouds over Sunderland

    Sunderland v Swansea (15:00 BST)

    Robbie Fowler

Former Liverpool striker on Football Focus

"Lee Cattermole has been speaking about Sunderland’s poor start to the season. He should be leading on the pitch, it’s not all about saying stuff after the game. Maybe he should look to change things while the game is happening.  At the moment they don’t look like they’re going to get a win. There seems to be dark clouds over Sunderland."

  51. Big Sam on standby

    Sunderland v Swansea (15:00 BST)

Whatever Sunderland chairman Ellis Short says, Black Cats manager Dick Advocaat wants more money spent on players and, if not, could quit the club, according to the Daily Mirror.

Advocaat has already held a meeting with his players to try to find out the cause of his side's poor start to the season and, if the Dutchman does leave, a certain Sam Allardyce is on standby to take over.

  52. Short fuse

    Sunderland v Swansea (15:00 BST)

Sunderland chairman Ellis Short has used today's matchday programme to tell the club's fans that suggestions he will not spend money on the team are "completely wrong".

Fans chanted "Are you watching Ellis Short?" during last Saturday's defeat at home to Norwich, arguing that he should back manager Dick Advocaat more.

Advocaat has refused to criticise the chairman, but said on Friday he needed "five or six new players".

Short said the club had paid out £21.5m in the transfer market this summer, but acknowledged that it had not been spent well.

He wrote: "Has the money been spent wisely? No - that much is clear and ultimately that is my fault. But it is not a result of lack of ambition or commitment."

So, can Sunderland throw the form book out of the window and get off the mark? Let's find out...
