  1. Bye for now

We will have coverage of the Champions League draw tomorrow in Sportsday Live, along with all the latest transfer stories and wild speculation.

Presumably we will hear more about Kevin De Bruyne's reported deal to join Manchester City.

    Until next time, goodbye.

  2. Champions League draw

So this is how the Uefa's goldfish bowls are going to be filled in the Champions League draw tomorrow.

Manchester United could be grouped with Barcelona, Roma and Wolfsburg.

Or they might find themselves with PSV, Lyon and Astana.

We will find out around 16:45 BST.

  3. Post update

    Barnsley 3-5 Everton

    John Stones

Some strong stuff from Roberto Martinez on John Stones.

Can Everton cling on to John Stones despite the pull of Chelsea's millions? They sound like they are going to have a right good go.

  4. Manager reaction

    Barnsley 3-5 Everton

Everton manager Roberto Martinez speaking to Sky Sports:  "I thought Barnsley were superb throughout - dynamic and clinical. We were a little slow in the first half and showed poor focus in front of goal. It was a test to see if we could come back into the scoreline, but it was terrific to see the younger players showing up after a performance that was not acceptable in the first half.

"They reacted with desire in the second half and that shows how much this matters and how much we wanted to progress.

"I thought that John Stones was incredible under enormous pressure. I think that the authorities need to look at what has gone on because it has become a bit of a circus.

"Our fans know that all we are doing is trying to become better and John is a massive part of that. Money cannot buy everything in life, there are some things like values. He is not for sale."

  5. Player reaction

    Barnsley 3-5 Everton

    Romelu Lukaku

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku speaking to Sky Sports: "In the first half we were very disappointing. Me and the rest of the forwards did not do well and let the defence on their own, The manager told us at half-time that we have to be better. We want to do well in all the competitions we are involved in."

Lukaku conducted that interview while wearing the shirt he swapped with Barnsley's Conor Wilkinson. He will need cutting out of it by the looks of it. He can hardly breathe.

  7. Post update

    Barnsley 3-5 Everton

Still a minute to play and the Oakwell crowd stand to applaud their team with the action still ongoing.

Tremendous scenes and fully deserved by a gutsy Barnsley side.

  8. CLOSE!

    Barnsley 3-5 Everton

Romelu Lukaku should have his hat-trick, but somehow Barnsley survive as the goalkeeper and then a covering defender get back to hack clear.

  9. Post update

    Barnsley 3-5 Everton

Four minutes to go of extra-time.

  10. GOAL

Barnsley 3-5 Everton - Romelu Lukaku

    Romelu Lukaku

      That is surely good night.

Everton sweep upfield, Barnsley's defence is in tatters and Ross Barkley spots the free man, playing in Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian takes his time and slots coolly.

  11. Post update

    Barnsley 3-4 Everton

This is end-to-end like two-on-two basketball.

Everton are breaking with pace and Ross Barkley sees a strong shot saved.

    Barnsley 3-4 Everton

Barnsley are still game for this. Conor Hourihane is their likliest route to a leveller.

The Irishman smacks a rasping left-footer goalwards, but Joel Robles stays big to get two meaty palms to the ball and push it over.

    Barnsley 3-4 Everton

Roberto Martinez sacrifices Kevin Mirallas for James McCarthy.

That shores up midfield and erodes another few seconds.

    Ten minutes to go.

  14. Manager reaction

Club Brugge 0-4 Man United (1-7 agg)

    Louis van Gaal

Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal speaking to BT Sport:"I think we were very organised. We played the ball a little bit more simple than before. You can create gaps and we scored so that is also good.

"Every goal shall give confidence to every player, even Wayne. I'm very happy for him.

"He has the best mentality that you can imagine. Such players with that level will always come back."

    Barnsley 3-4 Everton

    My word!

Conor Hourihane with a delicious curling shot from 25 yards, Joel Robles is beaten all ends up, but is relieved to see the ball thud clear off the apex of post and bar.

Barnsley so close to an equaliser and another twist to this tale.

  16. Player reaction

Club Brugge 0-4 Man United (agg 1-7)

    Barnsley 3-4 Everton

    Half-time in extra-time at Oakwell.

  18. CLOSE!

    Barnsley 3-4 Everton

George Smith picked out at the far post by a deep cross, but the Barnsley defender chooses to try and cut the ball back rather than put a big size nine through it.

    Everton scramble clear.

  19. Post update

    Barnsley 3-4 Everton

Kevin Mirallas has a chance to bury Barnsley two goals deep.

The Belgian darts into space and is picked out by Steven Naismith's pass, but blasts over first time when he could have taken a touch.

I thought Mirallas was nailed on to join Spurs this summer by the way? How is he still at Goodison.

A minute to go in the first half of extra time.

  20. Post update

    Barnsley 3-4 Everton

    Everton take the lead

That goal was very rough on a Barnsley side who were faster out of the traps at the start of extra-time.

They have led 2-0 and 3-2. Can they recover to win this game a third time over?

  21. GOAL

Barnsley 3-4 Everton- Marc Roberts (OG) (96 mins)

    Everton take the lead

Everton lead for the first time and it is the impressive Gerard Deulofeu who they have to thank.

The former Barcelona man leaves Conor Hourihane befuddled with a couple of swift stepovers and delivers a low cross towards Romelu Lukaku that Marc Roberts turns into his own net under heavy pressure from the big Belgian.

  22. Post update

    Barnsley 3-3 Everton

The home side have started extra-time the better. Conor Wilkinson thuds a solid shot into the chest of Joel Robles from a tight angle.

Club Brugge 0-4 Man United (1-7 agg)

    Wayne Rooney and Ander Herrera

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney speaking to BT Sport: "I'm delighted to have got the goals and, more importantly, it was a massive game for the club. We are delighted through to the draw tomorrow.

"To be honest, if I didn't have a strong character that (the criticism) might have affected me. I wasn't worried. It is early days and when the chances came I took them."

  32. WHAT A MISS!

Club Brugge 0-4 Man United (agg 1-7)

    Javier Hernandez

It has not been Javier Hernandez night.

After a comic penalty miss, the Mexican contrives to punt the ball over the ball from four yards after an excellent Ashley Young cross.

    Two minutes of injury time.

  33. Post update

    Barnsley 3-3 Everton

Everton are hammering on the door.

Kevin Mirallas cuts in off the right and sees a shot blocked by the despairing dive of defender.

Ross Barkley crashes over the top as the loose ball runs into his path.

Barnsley were 12 minutes from victory. They would take extra time now.

    Five to go.

Ross Barkley cracks a half-volley as sweet as a nut, but the ball whistles just wide.

Everton pressure building to almost unbearable levels.

    Eight minutes to go.

  35. GOAL

Barnsley 3-3 Everton - Romelu Lukaku (78 mins)

Gerard Deulofeu's low cross is stabbed in by Romelu Lukaku. A classic instinctive poaching finish.

Club Brugge 0-4 Man United (agg 1-7)

    Javier Hernandez

Oscar Duarte handles Wayne Rooney cross to give Manchester United a blatant penalty.

Rooney hands responsibility to Javier Hernandez, but the Mexican slips and spoons his spot-kick over the top.

    It doesn't matter.

  37. Post update

    Barnsley 3-2 Everton

Time is ticking away for Everton at Oakwell.

Fifteen minutes of normal time are left as Steven Naismith mis-reads the angle of Romelu Lukaku's run and his pass runs tamely through to the goalkeeper.

Club Brugge 0-4 Man United (agg 1-7)

Ruud Vormer mows down Memphis Depay with a plough of a sliding tackle.

The Dutchman gingerly gets back to his feet. He's OK.And Vormer collects his yellow card.

  39. Post update

Club Brugge 0-4 Man United (agg 1-7)

Sergio Romero gets away a duffed clearance kick that flies straight to a Brugge attacker.

Fortunately for the Manchester United goalkeeper, the Belgians are equally clumsy in attack with their counter dying with an over-cooked pass.

  40. Post update

Club Brugge 0-4 Man United (agg 1-7)

    Club Brugge fans

It is a strange old atmosphere at the Jan Breydel Stadium. Any hope Brugge had of overhauling Manchester United's first-leg lead went down the gurgler long ago, but their fans are still making plenty of noise.

Another rousing chorus of You'll Never Walk Alone is directed towards the travelling Manchester United fans.

  41. GOAL

Barnsley 3-2 Everton - Daniel Crowley (60 mins)

    Daniel Crowley celebrates

    Everton are level!

Steven Naismith heads home without a marker in sight and celebrates with a snarl.

Club Brugge 0-3 Man United (agg 1-6)

Ashley Young comes on in place of Juan Mata, who has been a classy, consistent presence for United in attack.

  45. Post update

Club Brugge 0-3 Man United (agg 1-6)

And Wayne Rooney should have his fourth.

The Brugge defence has evaporated into thin air. Juan Mata pierces their tissue-thin rearguard with another perceptive pass but Wayne Rooney's attempt to lift a little chip over the goalkeeper is pushed wide by Sinan Bolat.

  47. GOAL

Club Brugge 0-3 Man United (agg 1-6) - Rooney hat-trick

    Wayne Rooney scores

You wait 10 games for one goal and then three come along at once.

Wayne Rooney complete his hat-trick with a third goal that is very similar to his first.

Juan Mata supplies the bullet this time with a little nudged through ball and Rooney slips home the finish with ease.

  48. GOAL

Barnsley 2-1 Everton - Kevin Mirallas (50 mins)

    Kevin Mirallas

Everton needed to lift themselves after a limp first half and Roberto Martinez seems to have stiffened some sinews with his half-time team-talk.

Kevin Mirallas sweeps home a classy volley as the Barnsley defence fail to make a convincing clearance.

Club Brugge 0-2 Man United (1-5 agg)

    Memphis Depay goes down

Memphis Depay folds under the challenge of Laurens De Bock in the area, but contact was slight, if at all, and the referee waves play on.

Quote Message: Club Brugge's defence went AWOL. They gave the ball away in midfield and Ander Herrera was very unselfish. Wayne Rooney will not get an easier chance than that all season.
  52. GOAL

Club Brugge 0-2 Man United (agg 1-5) - Wayne Rooney

    Wayne Rooney

Slicker than Cristiano Ronaldo's hair product.

Manchester United carve Brugge apart as Memphis Depay feeds Ander Herrera in the box and the Spaniard unselfishly squares the ball back to Wayne Rooney to side-foot past a wrong-footed Sinan Bolat.

    Very nice indeed.

  53. KICK-OFF

Club Brugge 0-1 Man United (1-4 agg)

    Back up and running.

Bastian Schweinsteiger has slotted in alongside Michael Carrick at the base of midfield with Ander Herrera advancing into Adnan Januzaj's role just behind Wayne Rooney.

Club Brugge 0-1 Man United (agg 1-4)

    A change for Manchester United.

Bastian Schweinsteiger is on in place of Adnan Januzaj.

Is that Louis van Gaal battening down the hatches for the evening?

  55. Elsewhere

    Latest scores

Sporting Lisbon are 3-1 up on aggregate on a very decent CSKA Moscow side.

I only just found out that Jorge Jesus, the manager who got right up Tim Sherwood's nose when he was in charge of Benfica, has crossed the divide to take up the Sporting reins in June. Controversy squared.

    He's a brave man.

    Danny Mills

BBC Radio 5 live at Jan Breydelstadion

Quote Message: Job done for Manchester United so far but it hasn't been particularly convincing. Keeper Sergio Romero has only had to make one save but there are one or two concerns regarding the bigger picture. Wayne Rooney has got his goal but they haven't created too much going forward. If you're playing against better teams United could find themselves three or four down.

Claudemir goes into the book as he tugs on the shirt of Ander Herrera in the centre circle.

  62. CLOSE!

Club Brugge 0-1 Man United (1-4 agg)

    Abdoulay Diaby

    Club Brugge should be level.

Abdoulay Diaby is clean through on Sergio Romero with team-mates either side of him and the chance to shoot for either corner.

He contrives to waste the opening, attempting to round the keeper and allowing Romero to smother at his feet.

  63. Post update

Club Brugge 0-1 Man United (1-4 agg)

    Tom De Sutter

Club Brugge with a quickfire trio of chances, but none of them stick for the equaliser.

Tom De Sutter first lacks the pace to make the most of a route to goal, then Daley Blind's tentative header almost ends up in his own net before Davy De Fauw glances a side-foot effort wide from the resulting corner.

  64. Post update

Club Brugge 0-1 Man United (1-4 agg)

    Memphis Depay

Attempting to make up for missed chances, Memphis Depay takes on a shot from 20 yards. That one is tamed by a big deflection though and goalkeeper Sinan Bolat scoops it up with ease.

  65. Post update

Club Brugge 0-1 Man United (agg 1-4)

    Memphis Depay

Memphis Depay looks like he could do with a quick ego massage at half-time.

The United man is played into a pocket of space in the penalty area by Adnan Januzaj, but again he hesitates and attempts to cut inside when he should be pulling the trigger.

A little short of confidence perhaps...

  66. Analysis

Club Brugge 0-1 Man United (agg 1-4)

    Danny Mills

BBC Radio 5 live at Jan Breydelstadion

Quote Message: Memphis Depay was one-on-one with the Club Brugge keeper but waited far too long and that gave the defender time to get across and block his shot.
  67. CLOSE!

Club Brugge 0-1 Man United (agg 1-4)

Memphis Depay's pick-and-mix of quality and profligacy continues.

The Dutchman seems to be clean through as he barges Jean-Charles Castelleto out of the way and scampers goalwards.

But he dwadles when it comes to the actual scoring part and Oscar Duarte is able to get across and make a recovery challenge. He should never have got near Depay.

  69. GOAL

Barnsley 2-0 Everton - Marley Watkins (28 mins)

    Barnsley players celebrate

Things go from bad to worse for Everton.

A big old-fashioned lump into the penalty area and goalkeeper Joel Robles comes and fails to claim.

    Marley Watkins takes advantage.

  70. De Bruyne signs for City - reports

Meanwhile the transfer dealings stop for no man or match.

While city rivals United are securing their Champions League spot, Manchester City have apparently tied up a deal for Wolfsburg's Kevin de Bruyne.

Bild are reporting that they have agreed a £58m fee. Fifty. Eight. Million. Pounds.

  71. GOAL

Barnsley 1-0 Everton - Sam Winnall (22 mins)

This is ugly for Everton defence. And Chelsea target John Stones is at the centre of the mess.

The Toffees fails to clear, with a couple of fresh-air swipes allowing Sam Winnall to seize possession and drill low and hard into the corner.

That is £3m knocked off Chelsea's bid tomorrow morning.

  73. GOAL

There's nothing like a bit of confidence from your manager as you try to overturn a two-goal deficit in a Champions League qualifier against Manchester United but Club Brugge's players might need to turn to someone else for a bit of inspiration.

"To get a miracle, you need to be perfect and you need the other to not play at his best potential. We have a lot of players out, too.

    Gary Doherty

Vicky Foster: Tim Cahill great midfielder and occasional striker popping up with a header here and there!

THE ORACLE: Gary Doherty played centre half for Spurs but centre forward for Ireland. Shame he wasn't very good in either position.

Club Brugge v Manchester United (1945 BST)

As well as all the pride related to a return to the Champions League proper, there is some significant cash at stake for Manchester United.

Play-off losers are handed a £2.2m prize-money cheque along with their ticket to the Europa League.

Play-off winners get only £1.47m. Why? Because even if you lose every game in the Champions League group stage you earn £8.8m. Every win is worth an extra £1.1m.

Quote Message: We've had Man Utd's David De Gea and West Brom's Saido Berahino not playing having been linked with moves but John Stones plays for Everton tonight and manager Robertro Martinez must feel the defender is mature enough and strong enough mentally to play.
  98. Post update

Barnsley entertain Everton in the Capital One Cup second round. The big news from Oakwell is that Chelsea target John Stones starts for the Toffees.

tomas keech:  John O'shea for UTD used to play everywhere for us. Always understated in my opinion.

Mark:  Dion Dublin undoubtedly the best centre forward/centre half.

Club Brugge v Manchester United (19:45 BST)

    Champions League trophy

Lazio, Sporting Lisbon and Bayer Leverkusen are all in Champions League action tonight - all scrapping for a place in Thursday's draw for the Champions League.

If United get there they will be drawn into a group featuring one of top-seeded Barcelona, Bayern, Juventus, Benfica, Paris Saint-German, Zenit St Petersburg and PSV Eindhoven.

If they don't, the delights of the Europa League await.

  101. Spurs end interest in Berahino?

Spurs fans should take a look at the Bundesliga's 2013 video of Heung-Min Son in action. Some pretty nifty stuff.

And since then he has been knocking them in at a rate of one goal in every three games for Leverkusen.

One catch. There are reports knocking around that the 23-year-old will be obliged to do two years military service in his native South Korea by 2020.

Daniel Levy might want to check those out if he hasn't already.

    Ander Herrera and Marcos Rojo

It seems there's quite a few Manchester United fans are happy Ander Herrera is starting tonight...

Benjamyn Stone: Glad to see Herrera getting a start. He should get more chances. Long term, he could pair with Schneiderlin in the midfield.

Jeff Simons: Great to see Herrera starting, our best performances came with him and Mata linking up on the right last season.

Diable Rouge: Happy Herrera is starting with Mata as they are a strong partnership. Januzaj should have been benched as he fades away though.

In honour of renaissance man Marouane Fellaini, defensive rock, penalty-box lighthouse and, tonight, substitute, we are after your favourite multi-talented footballers.

Was former Sheffield Wednesday, Bolton and Blackburn man Paul Warhurstthe ultimate jack of all trades?

Or does Alan Smith swapping being a striker for a role as midfield anchorman somewhere en route between Leeds and Manchester United stick in your memory?

Quote Message: Marouane Fellaini is an option to play in attack when things aren't going well for Manchester United. Are they going to win the Premier League with him up front - I don't think so. It is option B and C at best. Manchester United have to strengthen up front.
  105. Perfect 10?

Club Brugge v Manchester United (19:45 BST)

Louis van Gaal and Marouane Fellaini

Both at Everton and Manchester United,Marouane Fellaini has said he wants to be a defensive midfielder rather than an attacker.

"That's nice. Now get your lanky goal-scoring self up front," has been the general response from his managers.

Louis van Gaal confirmed as much yesterday.

"This year he shall play more 10 and 9 than 6 and 8 because there [in midfield] we have more players,” he said.

Does that mean United are leaning away from any late moves for a striker in this transfer window?

  106. Team news

Club Brugge v Manchester United (19:45 BST)

Club Brugge are without eight players, including suspended defender Brandon Mechele following his sending off in the first leg. Striker Tom De Sutter, who scored 13 goals last season, and midfielder Victor Vazquez have been linked with moves away from the club but both start.

Club Brugge XI: Bolat, Davy De fauw, Duarte, Castelletto, Claudemir, Vazquez, De Sutter, Diaby, Vormer, De Bock, Mbombo.

Manchester United make two changes from the draw with Newcastle last Saturday. Midfielders Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick come in for Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger, who drop to the bench.

Man Utd XI: Romero; Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Shaw; Herrera, Carrick; Mata, Januzaj, Memphis; Rooney.

  107. Mane a doubt for Southampton

    Sadio Mane

On a similar point, Southampton manager Ronald Koeman told the press today that attacker Sadio Mane, linked with Manchester United, is a doubt for their Europa League match tomorrow.

Victor Wanayama is missing it with a stomach infection.

    Interesting. Very interesting.

  108. Stones starts for Everton

    John Stones

Everton manager Roberto Martinez on Sky Sports: "We need to be balanced and fresh in the centre of defence and that's why John Stones starts alongside Phil Jagielka.

"We don't take this game lightly and we're aware of our responsibility to this competition."

  109. Your move Jose....

    Everton are playing hardball.

Defender John Stones, who has handed in a transfer request after being the subject of several unsuccessful bids from Chelsea, is included in Everton's starting line-up to face Barnsley.

No taking the easy option of a 'slight strain' or 'sickness bug' to protect a possible £40m deal. The Toffees really don't want to sell.
