This game is a good bet for last on Match of the Day. My advice: don't stay up to watch it, although the Callum McManaman penalty appeal will cause some chatter. 

Have a safe trip home if you've been at the game.

And that is that. Few boos at the end, not a great deal to cheer. 

Southampton's Steven Davis chips the ball forward to Graziano Pelle, but he is offside. Plenty of huff and puff from the Saints but they haven't looked very sharp today. Lucky for them, nor have West Brom. 

Saido Berahino leads the West Brom counter attack but is tracked by Victor Wanyama and it fizzles out. You can tell the West Brom striker has missed the last few games, he looks rusty. 

INJURY TIME

Sadio Mane has been involved plenty since coming on but as he shapes to shoot he is blocked on the edge of the area. Four minutes of added time. 

The usually accurate Craig Gardner pulls a shot across goal. That might sum up the day for West Brom as some decide enough is enough and head for the door. 

Darren Fletcher is a tad lucky. The West Brom midfielder tries to clear but it is blocked by Dusan Tadic, and the rebound falls to Graziano Pelle, who dribbles a shot towards goal.

SUBSTITUTION

Dusan Tadic whips another cross in from the left but it cannot find a Southampton head. Jonny Evans looks like he might have a touch of cramp and is replaced by Jonas Olsson. 

Jonny Evans has picked up a knock but looks OK to continue. It's been a solid debut for the West Brom debutant, but he hasn't had a great deal to do. Sadio Mane may have something to say about that in the closing stages. 

YELLOW CARD

West Brom's Chris Brunt becomes the first player to go into the book for a foul. 

First attack from Saido Berahino, who breaks from midfield and slips the ball wide to Salomon Rondon, but when the Venezuelan feeds the ball back, the Southampton defence recover and block Berahino's shot.

SUBSTITUTION

Saints full-back Cedric Soares comes off to be replace by Maya Yoshida. Southampton looking more likely to score as the West Brom impetus fades. 

Southampton's Sadio Mane has a decent chance now as he is put through by Graziano Pelle but he cannot pull his shot across goal and it goes wide at the near post. 

Saints striker Graziano Pelle comes within an inch of poking in Steven Davis's cute pass but he can't stretch far enough to beat Boaz Myhill. 

Dusan Tadic fires a cross over from the left this time but Sadio Mane cannot time his jump well enough to connect. Graziano Pelle then gets a kick from Jonny Evans as he chases the loose ball and is not too pleased. 

SUBSTITUTION

Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez is replaced by Sadio Mane. Let's see what he can do after a long international trip for Senegal in midweek. 

CLOSE!

Chance for the Saints. They break down the left but the ball is delivered too deep for Graziano Pelle to steer in, and when Dusan Tadic arrives at the back post, he cuts back rather than shooting with his right foot and James Ward-Prowse fires over the subsequent lay-off.

That's Callum McManaman's last action of the game. He's replaced by James McClean as the Baggies seek to use the double change to alter the course of this game. 

Saido Berahino adds some pace to the West Brom with his presence helping earn a corner. The Baggies fans find their voice but it is cleared. Moments later Callum McManaman attempts to curl one in but shoots a few yard wide.

Wow, Maarten Stekelenburg has got away with one in the Southampton goal. He's been under-employed so far and almost makes a right hash of a deep cross, which loops up into the air. Despite dropping it, he manages to fall on top of the ball with Gareth McAuley loitering.

So 10 days after he said he would never play under chairman Jeremy Peace again, the West Brom striker is back on the pitch. A goal here would go down very nicely.

Southampton's Victor Wanyama appeals for a penalty as he heads goalwards at the back post but it looked like he hit Darren Fletcher's back.

Not a thriller this, so Saido's introduction cannot come soon enough. The longer it goes on, the more you think Southampton might be the first team to score.

Saido Berahino takes a run down the touchline and most fans give him a round of applause. A few boos but mostly positive, which will be heartening for the Baggies striker.

HALF-TIME

Without much else going on, the debate at half-time will centre on Callum McManaman's penalty appeal. Replays show that he touched the ball past Matt Taargett, who had dived in, but it looked like the West Brom winger was already flying before he got touched. It will certainly divide opinion!

And that is that for the first half. Pretty subdued at the Hawthorns, get Saido on! 

Steven Davis marauds down the right now, but West Brom snuff the attack out. 

West Brom striker Salomon Rondon leads a break but gets the ball caught up under his feet. Once Southampton are settled in defence, the Baggies are struggling to make any inroads. Two minutes of added time.

Another attack down Southampton's right, this time Cedric Soares loops a cross to the back post where Craig Dawson heads clear for a corner. Boaz Myhill punches that clear. 

Dusan Tadic cuts inside from the right wing and delivers another cross, which is just too deep for Graziano Pelle. No doubting Southampton's main source of attack, though.

Jay Rodriguez hasn't scored since March 2014 but he comes awfully close to ending that run. Dusan Tadic whips in a cross from the right and the England striker heads inches wide. That's the closest we've come to a goal.

Saints striker Jay Rodriguez, who is back in action after a long injury lay-off, muscles his way into the penalty area and fires in a low shot but it's easily saved by Boaz Myhill.

If this games remain as tame in the second period, wouldn't the introduction of a certain player give it a bit of spice? I'm not sure he's been down the touchline for a jog yet, though. 

Nervous moment for Saints goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, who is tripped as a West Brom corner is delivered. Fortunately for the the Dutch goalkeeper, on loan from Fulham, the ball bounces to safety and he eventually recovers. 

Half an hour gone and no doubt who's had more of the ball. Still goalless, though.

Chris Brunt takes the corner for the Baggies, and delivers a fine set-piece (doesn't he always?), but Craig Dawson cannot direct his header on target from close range. 

Southampton look content, but maybe need to step up the speed of their attacks to start causing the Baggies any real problems. West Brom's main threat is coming from Callum McManaman, who wins another corner. 

Dusan Tadic is getting some grief from the home fans now as he hops to his feet and delivers a cross which Salomon Rondon heads behind for a Southampton corner. It's subsequently cleared. 

West Brom happy to sit back and suck up the pressure as Southampton control possession and switch the ball from right to left. Dusan Tadic has just been walloped by Chris Brunt and the Serbian is not happy with his treatment. 

Dusan Tadic takes it but it is headed clear. The Saints are controlling the game in midfield so far, you would have to say. 

Other than that penalty excitement, it's not been thrilling. West Brom defender Craig Dawson heads away as the ball is delivered into Jay Rodriguez. Eventually the Saints win a corner.

The strange thing about that is that had Callum McManaman thrown not himself so theatrically, I think he would have been awarded a penalty because contact would have been made. Funny one, but replays made it look like the referee got it right.

Callum McManaman is sent flying down the right by Rickie Lambert and he beats Matt Targett to the ball, but throws is a dramatic fall and his appeals are waved away by Stuart Attwell. Tony Pulis is furious.

Cedric Soares and Dusan Tadic will be a test for any defence this season as they break down the Southampton right, but West Brom left-back Chris Brunt does well to slow the Saints pair down as the counter attack wilts. 

Saints defender Virgil van Dijk, fresh from his £13m move from Celtic, is linking well with Victor Wanyama in front of him. Not been troubled too much so far. Frustration from the home fans as a delayed offside flag is shown to Salomon Rondon. 

Which is whipped in low and hard but it is nicked away before Baggies striker Rickie Lambert can get a touch on it. 

West Brom's Callum McManaman is jinking down the right already and giving Saints full-back Matt Targett a few warning signs. He wins the first corner of the game.

"Saido Berahino and West Brom have both handled the situation badly. Now, the player will be booed by his own fans and that will affect his performances, while Spurs didn't get the player they wanted. It's nothing but negative."

Contrary to our earlier team-sheet, it seems Dusan Tadic is starting on the right side of the midfield with James Ward-Prowse playing more centrally. He's seeing plenty of the ball. 

Dusan Tadic delivers another cross from the right side but it's straight into the arms of Boaz Myhill. Positive start from the visitors, who are find their passing rhythm early on. 

James Ward-Prowse and Dusan Tadic combining well for the Saints. The latter delivers the ball into the near post but it is just out of reach for Graziano Pelle. Good play.

Southampton full-back Cedric Soares is back up again. A relief for Ronald Koeman.

West Brom debutant Jonny Evans threads the ball forward and Craig Gardner and Cedric Soares end up in a tangle before Gardner overhits his cross. Soares is down injured.

So aside from the histrionics off the pitch, what will today's game offer? Well, historically, it has hardly been a goal-fest. There have been only three goals between the two teams in the past four games. And the Hawthorns has not been a happy hunting ground for the Saints....

Saido Berhaino has been out on the pitch at the Hawthorns, busy warming up along with the other substitutes. By the look on his face he know he's a watched man today.

"It was nice to see a couple of stand-offs for a change – we all thought John Stones would go and I thought Berahino would."

Jonny Evans makes his debut in defence after moving from Manchester United, while Rickie Lambert starts up front against his former team.

Saido Berahino went a step further than Victor Wanyama, of course, threatening to strike at one point. Will his team-mates or the fans forgive him? West Brom boss Tony Pulis says he wants the 22-year-old back playing as soon as possible. So is he in today's team?

Two teams that will be happy that the transfer window has closed and Tottenham have been left empty-handed. Spurs were chasing both West Brom striker Saido Berahino and Saints midfielder Victor Wanyama. Both stayed put, will we see them justify the fuss today?
