  1. Post update

Too slow for LvG - let's hope the Manchester derby is played at a higher pace this weekend.

Be there or be (Albert) Square.

  2. 'Too slow'

    CSKA Moscow 1-1 Man Utd

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal: "I knew it would be a very difficult game. They had the present from Anthony Martial and then it is difficult when you are behind.

"We could not play at a high tempo, it was too slow in the first half. We had to improve at switching from side to side and we did that. We coudl have won but a draw was deserved."

  3. Haven't they tried this already?

    CSKA Moscow 1-1 Man Utd

  4. 'A great opportunity'

    Man City 2-1 Sevilla

Unai Emery, Sevilla coach: "We have to keep on brushing up aspects of our game, and we have to remember the things we did well. But this was a great opportunity. We tried to do a good job here and we were capable of doing it, but we lacked that little bit extra."

  5. 'Horses for courses'

    Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool are in action on Thursday, and Jurgen Klopp has compared the treatment of some young players to that of "horses" after midfielder Jordan Rossiter was injured on international duty.

The 18-year-old is injured after playing three European Championship under-19 qualifying games in six days.

He is out until mid-November and Klopp has demanded an explanation.

"These young players are our future," said the German. "If we handle them like horses, we get horses."

Rossiter, who made his Premier League debut as a substitute at Arsenal this season and has played in each of the side's Europa League games so far this season, has a hamstring injury.

He was one of three players in the England side to play the full 90 minutes against Macedonia on 8 October, Finland on 10 October and Italy on 13 October.

Aidy Boothroyd's England side won the first two games and drew with Italy to come top of the first group stage of qualification.

Klopp said he had "never heard of a player of this age" playing so many games in so few days.

"Rossiter is a special story," said Klopp. "I don't know who I have to talk to about this but I will find a way to talk with somebody about this because it is not OK."

  6. Blind leading the...

    CSKA 1-1 Man Utd

Daley Blind had more touches (47-40) and played more passes (36-27) than Wayne Rooney. Blind came on in the 63rd minute.

Alex Perry: English teams deserve praise this week. Winning home games and not losing away is the recipe for success in Europe.

Colin Cox: I think Kevin de Bruyne has to be the world's most expensive bargain!

  8. 'Got a contract till Friday'

    BBC Radio 5 Live

New Leeds boss Steve Evans, speaking to BBC Radio 5 live:"I told the players tongue in cheek I had a contract until Friday and said they would leave before then if they did not give me passion.

"This is a proud football club and with the tradition it has, the minimum the fans will want to see is passion.

"The away end tonight had probably 5,000 Leeds fans in full voice and they were in full voice because they were probably proud of the team."

  10. Football League round-up

Steve Evans kicked off his Leeds reign with a 1-1 draw at Fulham, Chris Wood's second-half penalty earning a point for the West Yorkshire side.

Brentford moved four points clear of the relegation zone with an impressive 2-0 win at Wolves, while Blackburn and Derby drew 0-0.

In League Two, Exeter edged Cambridge United 1-0.

  11. 'Very close game'

    Man City 2-1 Sevilla

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini: "It was a very close game the two teams played very well and made no mistakes. We had character to the end and got the goal.

"We needed to make some changes, we were not arriving in the box and we had no strikers on the bench but it was the way to free Yaya Toure."

  14. 'We are an attacking team'

    Man City 2-1 Sevilla

Manchester City forward Kevin de Bruyne: "Even though we did not have our best game we tried to look for the victory and in the end we could score. We have a team to attack and we will try to get the three points in Sevilla too."

Goalkeeper Joe Hart: "Sevilla have earned the right to be in this competition and they made it difficult for us. They would have been happy with a draw but Kevin has found a fine finish to win us the game. We are working hard as a team - we are attacking so we know we will leave it short at the back at times."

    CSKA Moscow 1-1 Man Utd

Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin: “Anthony Martial didn’t let his head go down, which can happen after the penalty and he scored a great goal. Then we pushed on and gave everything and couldn’t get the second goal which was a shame.”

    Man City 2-1 Sevilla

What a huge goal that was from Kevin de Bruyne. Manchester City's deficiencies were obvious for all to see tonight - down the flanks at the back - but up front they have plenty of ammunition still.

  18. Post update

    Man City 2-1 Sevilla

    Pat Nevin

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra at Etihad Stadium

"This is a brilliant result against a really good side. Manchester City got very, very lucky until about 60 minutes but after that I could see tiredness coming for Sevilla. Manuel Pellegrini made some changes, and they were very intelligent changes. They worked, Manchester City won and they are 100% in the driving seat for getting through now."

  20. Group D

    Man City 2-1 Sevilla

Juventus are top of the group but they could only draw with Borussia Monchengladbach. The Old Lady have seven points, City now have six after that late strike and Sevilla are on three.

Suddenly all looks well for Manuel Pellegrini's side.

  21. Group B

  26. GOAL - Man City 2-1 Sevilla

    Kevin de Bruyne (90 mins)

What a winner that is! Manchester City have huffed, and puffed, but lacked quality up front. Kevin de Bruyne adds that quality with a cracking finish on the counter attack as Sevilla looked for a second of their own. Yaya Toure breaks away, finds De Bruyne on the right of the area, he works a yard of space and then cracks in left footed hard and low...

  29. Post update

    BBC Sport

A strange atmosphere at Etihad Stadium, where this  game remains in the balance. The Manchester City fans are awfully quiet at times, even when their side are on the attack, and it takes a lapse - like Wilfried Bony's lack of anticipation of a Raheem Sterling's throughball just now - to get them making the most noise, in frustration.

    Raheem Sterling
  40. SUBSTITUTION

This is an odd one - Wilfried Bony is off, and Fernando on. They have taken their only striker off.

    Cristiano Ronaldo
    Image caption: Cristiano Ronaldo's heatmap

Still goalless between PSG and Real Madrid but Cristiano Ronaldo has just gone oh so close to scoring the opener. He has mainly be operating very central, but his best effort comes from the left side of the area as he lets fly with a shot that shaves the outside of the far post.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid have added to their lead, 20-year-old substitute Oliver Torres making it 3-0 at home to FC Astana.

  42. Post update

So, so easy again for Sevilla to get a shot off! Substitute Michael Krohn-Dehli just walks with the ball, for some 30 yards, right up to the edge of the box and then shoots into the side-netting...

  43. The move behind Martial's goal

    CSKA Moscow 1-1 Man Utd

Some suggest that when Man Utd bring on Marouane Fellaini it signals the start of direct football. That might be true but there was nothing wrong with the build up to Anthony Martial's goal, with United patiently creating the opening.

Sevilla should be ahead! Rubbish defending from Eliaquim Mangala, getting his angles all wrong and heading the ball straight to a red shirt when there was no real danger! The ball is fired in and Kevin Gameiro has a free header just six yards out - but he puts it well over.

It's been raining all day in Manchester, where the drizzle continues to fall, and it is a full 10 degrees colder here than it is in Seville right now, but despite the damp conditions you cannot accuse the travelling fans of Los Rojiblancos (aka the Red and Whites) of being subdued.

They started arriving in the stadium about 15 minutes ago and have been making noise pretty much ever since. They gave a loud welcome to their goalkeepers when they emerged to warm up and an even louder one when they rest of the team appeared.

It is shaping up to be a noisy evening all round - I am sitting in the corner of the press box reserved for Spanish radio commentators and, even before kick-off, it appears they are all fans of the 'stream of consciousness' style of commentary. No dead air here.
