  1. Goodbye

    Aston Villa 2-3 Watford

    An Aston Villa fan

It's not looking good for Aston Villa. They remain bottom with only five points to their name. Watford move up to 11th after claiming the win.

That's it from me on here. Our reaction to Saturday's games continues on this link

  2. Full-time

    Aston Villa 2-3 Watford

That's it. Aston Villa lose. Again.

  3. Post update

    Aston Villa 2-3 Watford

Striker Troy Deeney breaks forward and plays in Ettiene Capoue but his shot is put behind for a corner.

Watford are hanging for full-time now.

  4. Post update

    Aston Villa 2-3 Watford

Aston Villa manager Remi Garde seems pensive, concerned perhaps, as his side look like they're about to fall to their 11th league defeat of the season.

Watford are still pushing forward in these final few minutes, but look tired now.

  5. Post update

    Aston Villa 2-3 Watford

That's Watford's first headed goal of the season. What a stat.

Now there's a bit of handbags after a high jump from Etienne Capoue, who has already been booked. The referee lets it slide.

  6. Goal - Aston Villa 2-3 Watford

    Jordan Ayew

    Wait...this just got interesting.

Jordan Ayew controls, turns and strikes an absolute cannonball into the bottom corner.

Villa couldn't do it, could they? They have 10 minutes of injury time to find an equaliser.

  7. Post update

  8. 'Sheer desire from Deeney'

    Aston Villa 1-3 Watford

    Kevin Kilbane

Former Everton winger on Final Score

"Sheer desire from Deeney - he wanted to score that goal. He climbed highest and got to that ball first, and a goal came from it."

  9. Goal - Troy Deeney

    Aston Villa 1-3 Watford

    Troy Deeney scores

We think Birmingham fan Troy Deeney enjoyed that one.

A wonderful bullet header, from Odion Ighalo's looping shot, makes it four in five for the Watford striker.

The Villa players look shell-shocked. The Hornets fans are bouncing.

  10. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-2 Watford

Watford sub keeper Giedruis Arlauskis has his first touch of the ball as he latches onto an in-swinging Villa ball. He has a bit of a tangle with Craig Cathcart, but luckily not as harsh as Heurelho Gomes earlier, and the ball is cleared.

  11. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-2 Watford

Jordan Ayew makes a darting run into the box and tumbles down, and while the Villa fans shout for a penalty, the players themselves don't fight for it.

There's action on the Watford bench as Adlene Guedioura comes on for Almen Abdi - their final change.

  12. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-2 Watford

It's quietened down now. Watford are keeping possession nicely, while Aston Villa search for some answers.

  13. Goal replay

    Aston Villa 1-2 Watford

Alan Hutton tried to stop Troy Deeney's ball finding Odion Ighalo. I guess technically he succeeded.

  14. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-2 Watford

Among all the goal and injury action, there's been a couple of substitutes.

Ikechi Anya replaces Juan Carlos Paredes for Watford, while Aston Villa have brought on Adama Traoré for Carles Gil.

  16. 'It was actually a good finish...'

    Aston Villa 1-2 Watford

    Kevin Kilbane

Former Everton winger on Final Score

"Hutton had to make the challenge because otherwise Ighalo would have had a clean shot on goal. In fact, it was actually a good finish..."

  17. Goal - Aston Villa 1-2 Watford

    Alan Hutton OG

Villa are behind again. Poor old Alan Hutton

Troy Deeney passed the ball through to Odion Ighalo, but Hutton got the last touch as we went to put in a tackle and it went past Brad Guzan.

    Pressure on the hosts now.

  18. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-1 Watford

The Hornets bench are quick into action, and substitute keeper Giedruis Arlauskis is about to enter the fray for his Premier League debut.

The Lithuania international played against England in October, letting in three goals.

Heurelho Gomes is still being treated on the pitch, so there will be a long delay to the end of the game.

  19. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-1 Watford

Watford keeper Heurelho Gomes has just been clattered in the head by his own man Craig Cathcart, and he's wiggling his legs in pain. Looks like a head injury and he's receiving oxygen from the medical team.

  20. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-1 Watford

    Heurelho Gomes = butter fingers.

The Watford keeper comes to collect a Scott Sinclair ball-in but drops it, and panics, before it's eventually cleared. A let-off for the Hornets.

  21. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-1 Watford

After a decent spell of Watford possession, Aston Villa finally nab the ball. Alan Hutton rushes down the wing with speed but he can't fend off Etienne Capoue and it goes out of play.

Watford then race forward but Villa's defence hustle the ball into the hands of Brad Guzan.

  22. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-1 Watford

Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores issues instructions to his players

Twelve of the 14 league goals Watford have conceded this season have been scored in the second half of matches, amounting to a league-high tally of 86%.

But early doors in the second half they're pegging Villa back in their own half. Manager Quique Sanchez Flores will be happy with that.

  23. 'Great response from Villa'

    Aston Villa 1-1 Watford

    Dion Dublin

Former Aston Villa striker on Final Score

"I am looking at Aston Villa to see if they can build on their last 10 minutes. In the first-half Watford came flying out of the blocks and then Micah Richards, the captain, stood up and got the goal. It was a great response and now it is about game management. Can they go on now?"

  24. Here we go again...

    Aston Villa 1-1 Watford

    Troy Deeney and Micah Richards

The players are back out. The raining is pouring. Can either side grab a winner in the second half? Let's find out.

  25. Can Villa buck the trend?

    Aston Villa 1-1 Watford

Win, lose or draw, Aston Villa will stay bottom of the Premier League today.

But a victory here may inject a bit of belief that they can escape danger. A defeat and they will equal the league record for the lowest points tally after 14 matches of a season.

    No pressure, lads.

    Aston Villa 1-1 Watford

The stats don't lie - Aston Villa have dominated possession and have had more efforts on target.

    Stats
  28. Half-time

    Aston Villa 1-1 Watford

One minute extra is added before the referee blows up for half-time.

    Entertaining game so far.

  29. 'It was offside...'

    Aston Villa 1-1 Watford

    Kevin Kilbane

Former Everton winger on Final Score

Micah Richards scores for Aston Villa

"I think Richards is offside. It's a brilliant header, finished so well... but it was offside!"

  30. Post update

    Aston Villa 1-1 Watford

Villa (left on this map) have actually had loads more touches of the ball than Watford - including nine in the box. And they have finally made that pressure tell.

  31. GOAL - Aston Villa 1-1 Watford

    Micah Richards

    Aston Villa's Micah Richards celebrate

That's a huge goal for Villa.

Jordan Veretout's free-kick falls to Micah Richards who sneaks in and heads perfectly past the keeper.

Was he slightly offside? Perhaps but the flag stays down.

    Cue wild celebrations.

  32. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-1 Watford

Close again by Villa. Ciaran Clark tries to slide onto the end of a Jordan Ayew flick from a corner but it goes wide and he narrowly avoids colliding with the back post.

  34. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-1 Watford

A lovely, dancing move from Scott Sinclair and Villa's top scorer has a punt from distance but Heurelho Gomes pulls off a superb save to tip over the curling shot.

  35. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-1 Watford

Heurelho Gomes is on hand again to keep Aston Villa at bay.

The Watford keeper twice denies Jordan Ayew, although the flag was raised by the linesman for offside.

  36. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-1 Watford

  37. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-1 Watford

It's getting a bit wobbly again at the back for Villa.

Carlos Sanchez makes a mess of Brad Guzan's pass, allowing goalscorer Odion Ighalo to rush in but Micah Richards is on hand to clear.

At the other end, Idrissa Gueye has a go from 25 yards with a curling effort but it goes wide.

  38. Goal replay

    Aston Villa 0-1 Watford

You can see here the hash Villa made of Watford's goal. Kieran Richardson, Carlos Sanchez and Ciaran Clark all failed to clear the danger.

    Watford
  39. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-1 Watford

Brad Guzan conceded four last week but the Villa keeper just pulled off a really decent save from Etienne Capoue from close range, after some good work by Troy Deeney.

  40. 'Ighalo finished it well'

    Aston Villa 0-1 Watford

    Kevin Kilbane

Former Everton winger on Final Score

"Villa are a bit unlucky, but Richardson is playing Ighalo onside and is four or five feet too deep. He's trying to get back in line with his defence but he failed to do so, and Ighalo finished it well."

  41. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-1 Watford

Oh, Jordan Ayew. What a miss. He swivels and hits from close-range but he hits the floor and it goes wide.

  42. GOAL - Odion Ighalo

    Aston Villa 0-1 Watford

    Odion Ighalo scores

Against the run of play, Watford snatch the opener.

Odion Ighalo hits a shot at Gomes, Ben Watson's volley is blocked and eventually Ighalo sneaks in and pokes home.

There's calls for offside by Villa but they're waved away.

  43. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-0 Watford

Good pressure from Aston Villa as they attack the Holte End.

A corner in is cleared in a panic by Watford's Craig Cathcart after Scott Sinclair flicks goalwards.

  44. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-0 Watford

Micah Richards shows an injection of pace, and a well-timed run from Jordan Ayew sends Heurelho Gomes into action again. He saves well and Watford clear.

  45. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-0 Watford

Watford captain Troy Deeney has a shot at goal but it goes over the bar.

At the other end, Carles Gil's ball in is punched away by Heurelho Gomes before Micah Richards finds Alan Hutton, but he's flagged offside.

  46. Post update

    Aston Villa 0-0 Watford

    Aston Villa manager Remi Garde

A nervy start from Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan. His side earn a free-kick but he sprays it out wide to Carlos Sanchez, who knew very little about it.

They're keeping possession for now, though.

  47. Kick-off

    Aston Villa 0-0 Watford

And we're off! Away side Watford get the game going, shooting left to right.

Looks a bit damp out there.

Aston Villa v Watford (15:00 GMT)

The teams are out, the Aston Villa flag is being hoisted over the home end and the noise is building. It's nearly time for the off.

  49. 'We should cut Grealish a bit of slack'

Aston Villa v Watford (15:00 GMT)

    Pat Murphy

BBC Radio 5 live's Midlands football reporter

    Jack Grealish, Aston Villa

"Jack Grealish deserves his punishment, but he's a young lad with plenty of money and he got a few bevvies down him. Is it much of a shock?

"There is talk about Grealish being sent out on loan, which I think would be ridiculous. He's still the most talented player at the cub. He knows he cocked up last weekend, but he's popular, he banters with the senior players and he's got a good personality.

"He was a season ticket holder at the age of six - Villa is in his blood. I think we should cut him a bit of slack. He's not a poster boy for arrogant Premier League bigheads. And he is absolutely vital to Aston Villa."

  50. Banished

Aston Villa v Watford (15:00 GMT)

It's not been a good week for young Jack Grealish. He's been banished to Aston Villa's Under-21 training sessions after reportedly partying in Manchester following his side's dismal 4-0 defeat by Everton last weekend.

Manager Remi Garde's dropped him from today's game as punishment. Can Villa cope without him in attack?

    Jack Grealish
  51. Optimism abounds for Watford

Aston Villa v Watford (15:00 GMT)

    Guy Mowbray

BBC Match of the Day commentator at Villa Park

"Black Friday? Try Aston's very own Black Sabbath instead as a summation of most Villa weekends this season.

Villa's largely wretched home form of the last four years has no excuse, and they surely need to score first in this one to keep the crowd even vaguely optimistic.

With Watford, meanwhile, optimism abounds - even after back-to-back league defeats for the first time.

Some thought they'd be where Villa are for much of the season, but we've seen enough from the Hornets to suggest that they won't be at any stage."

  52. Talisman Troy

Aston Villa v Watford (15:00 GMT)

Mr Troy Deeney has been in fine form of late - if you forget his disastrous own goal which handed Manchester United victory last weekend, like I'm sure he wants you to.

    Can he net again today?

  57. Can Villa recover?

Aston Villa v Watford (15:00 GMT)

    Ashley Westwood

    Oh dear.

    Oh dear, oh dear.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

Sorry, you just caught me researching Aston Villa’s form this season. Not pretty, is it?

One win, two draws,10 defeats. Rock bottom of the Premier League. I wonder if mid-table Watford will cause some more damage today?
