  1. Good night

    FT: Bolton 1-1 Brentford

That is all from over coverage from the Macron Stadium tonight.

If you missed any of the action you can read Steve Marshall's match report on the game, where you will also find reaction from the Neil Lennon and Lee Carsley later on.

    Thank you for your company.

  2. Match stats

    FT: Bolton 1-1 Brentford

    match stats

After a fairly timid first half, Bolton really improved after the break, putting pressure on the Brentford backline.

They scored their first goal from open play in over eight hours through Neil Danns but were unable to find a second when they were on top.

  3. Bolton reaction

    FT: Bolton 1-1 Brentford

Quote Message: You could see we were committed. We fought till the end and I think a point each was fair. We have to stick together, the fans have been with us throughout. It's tough times but we have to stick together. from Bolton captain Darren Pratley Sky Sports
    Bolton captain Darren PratleySky Sports

The 'tough times' are of course the news that broke this afternoon that the Bolton squad have not been paid in November, as well as sitting bottom of the Championship.

  4. MAN OF THE MATCH

    FT: Bolton 1-1 Brentford

    Alan Judge
Quote Message: To be honest with you I think a draw was a fair result in the end. I think we maybe had the better chances but they stopped us playing in the second half. The lads would all like to thank Lee Carsley and Paul Williams for what they've done but we're looking forward to it now. from Brentford midfielder Alan Judge Sky Sports
    Brentford midfielder Alan JudgeSky Sports

Alan Judge making sure he makes a good first impression with new boss Dean Smith there...

  5. FULL-TIME

    Bolton 1-1 Brentford

Bolton draw a seventh game at home this season and their winless run stretches to 12 games now.

Neil Lennon's side battled back well in the second half and got a deserved equaliser through Neil Danns.

Brentford start the Dean Smith era with a draw as John Swift's curling strike in the first-half is they only goal the could muster.

  6. Bolton 1-1 Brentford

Last ditch defending as Bolton get a couple of headers inside the box but neither them are clean connections.

Gary Madine tries to force it towards goal but Brentford get bodies in the way to clear.

  7. Bolton 1-1 Brentford

Bolton launch it into the box again and again they have a corner. Can they make one count?

  8. Bolton 1-1 Brentford

It comes to nothing as Sergi Canos heads over.

As Bolton try to clear, James Tarkowski throws the ball away and is booked for his troubles.

  9. Bolton 1-1 Brentford

    Choas in the Bolton defence.

A cross comes from the left, it falls to Konstantin Kerschbaumer but his shot is deflected over for a corner...

  10. SUBSTITUTION

    Bolton 1-1 Brentford

Stephen Dobbie comes on for Mark Davies for Bolton to give them some fresh legs in the final third.

  11. Handbags

    Bolton 1-1 Brentford

Shola Ameobi and Alan McCormack have a few words and a few pushes and shoves towards each other.

The referee has a word before sending them on their way.

A Bolton free-kick from out wide comes to nothing.

  12. GREAT SAVE!

    Bolton 1-1 Brentford

    Ben Amos

Stunning reaching save from Ben Amos to prevent Brentford grabbing a winner.

Suddenly they turn on the style again as Sergi Canos, Alan McCormack and Lasse Vibe all combine and the Danish striker's shot is turned wide.

  13. Bolton 1-1 Brentford

Bolton's spell on top has dissipated for now, but neither side is dominating.

Lots of long clearances and trying to play down the other end of the pitch at the moment.

  14. Bolton 1-1 Brentford

Jose Casado's free-kick is a good one but James Tarkowski does just enough on the outstretching Shola Ameobi to prevent the Bolton striker from getting his head to the ball.

  15. Bolton 1-1 Brentford

Gary Madine is barged off the ball inside the box but he falls dramatically after taking too many touches.

It is worked into the box again to Darren Pratley and he battles with James Tarkowski to earn a free-kick on the left wing...

  16. Bolton 1-1 Brentford

Sam Saunders' first bit of action is to deliver a free-kick which is well defended by Bolton.

Darren Pratley concedes a free-kick but Brentford are keen to get on with it and take it quickly.

  17. SUBSTITUTION

    Bolton 1-1 Brentford

Final substitution for Brentford as Alan Judge is taken off for Sam Saunders.

He was someone who still looked like creating something for the Bees but perhaps the fresh legs will help take the sting out of this Bolton momentum.

  18. Bolton 1-1 Brentford

Jose Casado nearly gifts Brentford a second goal.

Lasse Vibe is putting him under all sorts of pressure but he defends well initially until his back pass is underhit, nearly giving the Bees a sniff of stealing it off Ben Amos.

  19. Bolton 1-1 Brentford

Another deep cross into the boss and it's another Bolton corner. They're up to nine in the match.

Brentford eventually hack it away and they're really on the back foot still.

  20. SUBSTITUTION

    Bolton 1-1 Brentford

Brentford's goalscorer John Swift is taken off and Konstantin Kerschbaumer replaces him.

Moments later Gary Madine strikes towards goal bit it goes wide. Trotters boss Neil Lennon is not happy with that and he and Madine exchange some pleasantries.

  21. Bolton 1-1 Brentford

    Bolton v Brentford
Quote Message: Put a team under pressure and find out how good they are. Bolton have put them under pressure and you can see what is happening now. from Former Bolton striker John McGinlay BBC Radio Manchester
Former Bolton striker John McGinlayBBC Radio Manchester

It is all Bolton and another corner is punched away by David Button.

Can they make this pressure count or can Brentford get their passing game going again?

  22. Bolton 1-1 Brentford

Constant pressure at the moment by the Wanderers.

A short corner worked by Bolton and as the cross comes in, James Tarkowski gets infront of Shola Ameobi from a yard out to prevent him nodding into an empty net.

  23. Bolton 1-1 Brentford

Suddenly Bolton look like a transformed team.

They're using their physicality and Gary Madine and Shola Ameobi are leading the charge up front.

Madine has an effort blocked by James Tarkowski and the hosts have a corner...

  24. SUBSTITUTION

    Bolton 1-1 Brentford

Sergi Canos comes on for Ryan Williams for Brentford. Can the on-loan Liverpool midfielder do anything to stop this Bolton momentum?

  25. GREAT SAVE!

    Bolton 1-1 Brentford

    Where has this come?!

Shola Ameobi nearly puts Bolton ahead. Holding off his marker, he turns on the six-yard box but David Button does well to stay low and keep it out with his feet.

  26. GOAL (Danns)

    Bolton 1-1 Brentford

    Neil Danns

Bolton have not had much luck with their shots outside the area but finally they get one on target.

A cross from the right is only half-cleared the edge of the area and on the bounce Danns strikes it into the ground - it bounces a couple of times before nestling into the far corner.

Not the cleanest looking strike but Neil Lennon looks delighted.

  27. YELLOW CARD

    Bolton 0-1 Brentford

    Another booking for Bolton.

Josh Vela mistimes a sliding challenge and the Wanderers have three people on yellow cards now.

  28. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Alan Judge's free-kick is struck well and dips towards the bottom right-hand corner, but the Bolton keeper Ben Amos has it well covered to take it into this chest.

  29. YELLOW CARD

    Bolton 0-1 Brentford

    Liam Feeney

Liam Feeney is the next one in the referee's book.

Tracking back, he trips Alan Judge as he attempts to go forward and Brentford have a free-kick 10 yards outside the penalty area.

  30. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

    Brentford waste another counter attack.

From a Bolton foward move, the Bees win the ball and the black shirts swarm forward. Credit to Neil Lennon's side who eventually get back in numbers and stop the momentum of the attack before a long shot goes over.

  31. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Quote Message: He keeps it simple. He knows he's a defender and doesn't do something he can't do - he looks a real up-and-coming player. from Former Bolton striker John McGinlay on Jack O'Connell BBC Radio Manchester
Former Bolton striker John McGinlay on Jack O'ConnellBBC Radio Manchester

John McGinlay should know about facing difficult defenders and he's been impressed with Brentford's 21-year-old centre-back.

Along with James Tarkowski, 23, the Bees have looked very untroubled at the back for the majority of the game so far despite their fresh-faced pair in the heart of defence.

  32. CLOSE!

    Bolton 0-1 Brentford

So, so close for the Brentford captain Jake Bidwell.

Alan Judge with a superb curling cross to overlapping Bidwell who, with the ball bouncing up, tries to direct his header into the far corner but it goes inches wide of the post.

His wait for a first senior goal goes on.

  33. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Another good couple of phases for Bolton but they're restricted to a long shot again - Neil Danns is falling over as he blasts the ball with his weaker left foot over.

  34. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

    Better again from Bolton.

Josh Vela on the overlap fizzes a low cross into the box causing momentary confusion in the Brentford box before they sweep it away.

  35. Get Involved on #bbcfootball

    Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Nice to have you along for the ride, Andy.

  36. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

    Bolton v Brentford

Now Bolton show a bit more going forward.

With Shola Ameobi and Gary Madine now up top they can throw more balls into the box and that is what they do. It falls to Josh Vela on the edge of the area but the full-back never really looks confident of scoring and it drifts over.

  37. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Brentford look so comfortable and composed on the ball.

Neat, quick passing gets them into the area but eventually David Wheater plays the ball off Lasse Vibe for a Bolton goal kick.

  38. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Bolton not helping themselves at the start of second half as they look to get level.

They win an early free-kick but Jose Casado's delivery is a poor one and barely reaches the first Brentford defender before being cleared. Even worse when you look at the numbers the hosts put into the box.

  39. KICK-OFF

    Bolton 0-1 Brentford

    Neil Lennon

Bolton gets us going in the second-half at the Macron Stadium.

Still a dry, mild night in Lancashire. Perfect for free-flowing football with lots of goals... we hope.

  40. Where are ya?

    HT: Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Quote Message: I'm looking at the bigger players to show up and I tell you what, there are a lot of people that don’t want to get the ball and don't want to get into the game. from Former Bolton striker John McGinlay BBC Radio Manchester
Former Bolton striker John McGinlayBBC Radio Manchester

'Super' John McGinlay is not particularly happy with the effort of some of the Bolton players in that first half.

It's hard to disagree. Although no one has played particularly poorly no one has really stood up for the Wanderers so far.

  41. Tomorrow

    HT: Bolton 0-1 Brentford

BBC Sport always endeavours to keep you up to date with football matters big and small.

This time tomorrow there will be live text coverage from the League Cup games as three Championship clubs take on Premier League opposition:

A debut hat-trick, an unbeaten start and renewed Cobblers hope.

These are just some of the things you may have missed from Saturday's Football League coverage. If you missed the round up of the best bits from the weekend BBC Sport has you covered.

So what are your thoughts on the first 45 minutes?

Max will do well to try and recreate that John Swift goal in the bath...

  44. HALF-TIME

    Bolton 0-1 Brentford

A half-hearted appeal for a penalty from Bolton as Shola Ameobi falls over in the area.

The hosts launch a number of crosses in the box, can they finish with a flourish?

Not this time as the referee blows his whistle and Brentford lead at the break through John Swift's superb strike.

  45. YELLOW CARD

    Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Another super, swift counter attack by Brentford.

Goalscorer John Swift goes down under a challenge by Josh Vela and that has to be a penalty... no!

The referee books him for diving and there is no protest. On the replay Swift is expecting the challenge which never touches him and he goes over far too easily.

  46. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

We've had Dean Smith, we've had Roy Keane and now former Manchester United manager David Moyes is picked out by the cameras at the Macron Stadium.

He's sat alongside his former assistant Alan Irvine, who is now working with Paul Lambert at Blackburn.

  47. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

    Bolton v Brentford

Neil Danns gets up to the edge of the Brentford area, but the Bolton midfielder is unable to use the time he is afforded because he slices across the ball with his strike.

  48. SUBSTITUTION

    Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Eventually Bolton do make the replacement as Gary Madine replaces Max Clayton.

He's more of an out and out forward to will Shola Ameobi get himself a strike partner up top?

  49. Get Involved on #bbcfootball

    Bolton 0-1 Brentford

  50. GREAT SAVE!

    Bolton 0-1 Brentford

    John Swift shot

Bolton take their time in deciding who they want to replace Max Clayton and with 10 men they nearly concede another goal, as John Swift is free at the back post by his left footed strike is tipped over by Ben Amos.

  51. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

    Max Clayton

Max Clayton hobbles off for Bolton with a nasty looking injury as he stretches for a challenge.

The former Crewe forward spent six months out with a knee injury last season and lets hope this isn't serious.

  52. GREAT SAVE!

    Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Ben Amos saves Bolton from going two down.

Lasse Vibe is completely free in between the Bolton centre-backs and just as he opens his body up inside the box, the former Manchester United striker stretches out a left leg to stop the ball going in. Top save.

  53. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

    Shola Ameobi

A Bolton attack ends with a swing-and-a-miss from Shola Ameobi.

Again Brentford break quickly and in numbers but Alan Judge's curling effort at the end of it is not quite up to the standard of John Swift's opener.

  54. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Lots of pushing and shoving from both teams as Bolton swing in a corner.

Darren Pratley is away from the medley of players and as the ball falls to him he swings his left boot at it - a sweet connection but straight at David Button for the Wanderers skipper.

  55. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Bolton do well again as Liam Feeney gets in on the right.

The winger's cross takes a touch on the way through and it just loops over the head of Shola Ameobi in the middle.

  56. Get Involved on #bbcfootball

    Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Yes, it was quite a move by the Bees.

  57. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Now it's Brentford's turn to show what they can do going forward.

Goalscorer John Swift plays the ball wide and gets into the box - the cross finds him but he's just unable to direct the ball towards goal.

From the next attack Jake Bidwell gets in behind Bolton on the left and his dangerous drilled cross is just about dealt with as Ben Amos pounces on it after a couple of ricochets.

  58. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Better from Bolton this as they launch a succession of attacks.

The best of which is when Darren Pratley's cross nearly finds Shola Ameobi at the back post but for John O'Connell's header.

Nothing comes from the resultant corner.

  59. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Quote Message: The onus is on Bolton to come out and attack and show a bit more quality. But that provides an opportunity for Brentford as they're capable of cutting you open on the counter attack. from Former Bolton striker John McGinlay BBC Radio Manchester
Former Bolton striker John McGinlayBBC Radio Manchester

A quarter of the game gone and not too much in the way of clear cut opportunities other than the goal.

Bolton knocking the ball around neatly at times but look a little light up top at the moment.

  60. YELLOW CARD

    Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Mark Davies is immediately full of apologies as the Bolton midfielder goes in hard on Toumani Diagouraga.

It's a poorly timed challenge by the former Wolves man and he is booked.

  61. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Liam Feeney has a free-kick from a good 25 yards out.

He gets it over the wall but it is never testing David Button as it drifts high and wide. It remains just 11 goals in 17 Championship games for Bolton right now...

  62. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Next on the famous faces watching this game is the former Manchester United captain Roy Keane.

He looks like his is trying to keep a low profile wearing a black flat cap. Alan McCormack and Alan Judge are the two with Irish connections that I can spot, with Keane possibly looking in his role as Republic of Ireland assistant.

Not much happening on the pitch right now.

  63. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

    Dean Smith

New Brentford head coach Dean Smith is wrapped up in at the Macron Stadium and has been all smiles when the television cameras have managed to catch him, especially when John Swift curled home.

The Bees have certainly looked the more dangerous of the two sides going forward so far.

  64. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

    Another half opening for Bolton.

A long clearance by Ben Amos is well won in the air by Max Clayton and Liam Feeney races through. He attempts a lob over David Button with the side of his boot, but unlike the famous Faustino Asprilla lob, Feene's effort goes straight to the goalkeeper.

  65. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Another chance for Bolton as Jose Casado blasts a shot with his left foot from out wide that nearly catches David Button out.

Excellent pressure from the hosts after Brentford's early goal.

  66. Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Nearly a perfect response from Bolton.

After another Brentford counter attack which looked dangerous, Wanderers work it upfield and Shola Ameobi cuts in from the left and rasps a shot towards goal that David Button touches over for a corner.

  67. GOAL (Swift)

    Bolton 0-1 Brentford

    John Swift scores

First meaningful attack and the first goal.

A swift counter attack by Brentford and John Swift just shifts the ball from under his feet on the edge of the area and then nonchalantly curls it past Ben Amos.

That is the on-loan Chelsea midfielder's second goal since joining the Bees, a fantastic strike.

  68. Get Involved on #bbcfootball

For all Bolton's troubles this season, it is worth remembering that Birmingham are the only team to beat them at the Macron this term.

Six draws in front of their own fans hasn't helped, though.

  69. Bolton 0-0 Brentford

The first time Brentford do get into the box it is a half chance.

A curled in corner from the right by Alan McCormack finds the head of Jack O'Connell but he is only able to direct his header into the side netting.

  70. Bolton 0-0 Brentford

    Oh dear Ben Amos.

The Bolton goalkeeper receives a backpass and under no pressure somehow horribly slices the ball out. Approaching the first five minutes and Brentford are yet to get anywhere near the Wanderers box.

  71. Bolton 0-0 Brentford

A bright start from Bolton this and it's given something for the home fans to shout about.

Liam Feeney stabs up a cross from the right and Darren Pratley attacks it at the back post but it's easily gathered by David Button.

Just what Neil Lennon will have wanted to see.

  72. Bolton 0-0 Brentford

A lazy backpass from Brentford defender James Tarkowski and his goalkeeper David Button had to be on his toes to prevent Max Clayton from getting his foot to the ball.

  73. KICK-OFF

    Bolton 0-0 Brentford

Here we go at the Macron Stadium. Brentford get us going in front of a sparse looking crowd, plenty of blue and red seats on show.

  74. Players in the tunnel

    Bolton v Brentford (19:45 GMT)

Bolton captain Darren Pratley and Brentford skipper Jake Bidwell are in the tunnel about to lead their teams onto the pitch.

One or two pre-match handshakes and we will be under way.

  75. Focus on the pitch

    Bolton v Brentford (19:45 GMT)

Quote Message: The money issues should not affect the players. They won't be worrying about this month's rent or their mortgage, and if it comes out that way it is an excuse. from Former Bolton striker John McGinlay BBC Radio Manchester
Former Bolton striker John McGinlayBBC Radio Manchester

With over 100 goals during his five-year spell at Bolton, John McGinlay is still fondly remembered by fans.

This is his take on the financial issues at the club which he says should not be affecting the players.

If you take a look at Northampton's recent plight, their results did not seem to be affected by their off-field money problems.

  76. Brilliant Bees

    Bolton v Brentford (19:45 GMT)

Having won five of their last seven games going into tonight you imagine Brentford will be in confident mood of making it six in eight.

The Bees also have a very decent league record against Bolton to go at.

    Brentford
  77. What tonight means

    Bolton v Brentford (19:45 GMT)

A quick look at the Championship table will tell you even if Neil Lennon's side do pick up a second win of the season, they will still wake up tomorrow morning bottom of the table as they are four points adrift of 23rd-placed Rotherham.

Brentford, meanwhile, could move to within a point of the play-off places if they heap more misery on Bolton by taking three points. Lee Carsley, I'm sure, will be pretty pleased with his efforts as temporary manager when he hands over the reins to Dean Smith as they were in 19th when he took charge.

  78. Bolton backlash?

    Bolton v Brentford (19:45 GMT)

So back to focusing on tonight.

Bolton may be having financial troubles off the pitch but on it things are not going much better.

Their only win this season was against Wolves at the start of September and that run sees them sit five points from safety at the bottom of the pile.

    Bolton stat
  79. From the sidelines

    Bolton v Brentford (19:45 GMT)

Bolton's injured winger Wellington Silva and Brentford's suspended centre-back won't be able to effect anything on the pitch tonight, but both have sent messages of support to their team-mates.

  82. The Wanderers' woes

    Bolton v Brentford (19:45 GMT)

    Bolton

While the appointment of a new manager is usually greeted with a sense of optimism, things could not be more contrasting at Bolton.

The Wanderers sit bottom of the Championship going into this game and their news this afternoon was that the squad has not been paid in November.

Trevor Birch, who is advising the board on possible takeover options from owner Eddie Davies, said they had not been paid because of a "short-term funding issue".

  83. Smith tasked with getting Bees buzzing

    Bolton v Brentford (19:45 GMT)

Tonight will be the last time Lee Carsley is in charge of Brentford after the Bees appointed Dean Smith as their new manager this afternoon.

The 44-year-old leaves Walsall fourth in League One after nearly five years in charge, and will succeed Dutchman Marinus Dijkhuizen who was sacked at the end of September.

Smith will be in the stands tonight at the Macron Stadium on a watching brief.
