    Germany 1-0 Ukraine

    Jens Lehmann

Former Germany goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 live

Ukraine aren't really pressurising anymore. They are three or four yards away which is too much and gives the Germans time to play the precise attacking balls.

  2. Post update

    Germany 1-0 Ukraine

Good save! Ozil is through with just the keeper to beat following Kroos' pass but the keeper is out quick to block.

Mesut Ozil was through but could not finish
  3. Post update

    Germany 1-0 Ukraine

Ukraine look resigned to defeat now. Germany are readying Bastian Schweinsteiger to see them through. They might not need him, though, here is Ozil...

  4. Post update

    Germany 1-0 Ukraine

Oleksandr Zinchenko, who came on a few minutes ago, is  is the youngest ever player to represent Ukraine at a major tournament at 19 years and 179 days. I'm not sure he even looks that, though. It looks like he came straight from soft play.

  5. Post update

    Germany 1-0 Ukraine

Ukraine haven't threatened for a while. They look tired. They'll need to find something in the next six minutes if they are to challenge Germany's increasingly-likely victory. Time to dig deep.

  6. Post update

    Jens Lehmann

Former Germany goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 live

Schurrle is a threat. He can dribble and he makes a difference,

    Andre Schurrle tries his luck
  7. Post update

    Germany 1-0 Ukraine

    Danny Murphy

Former England midfielder on BBC One

They've had some positive moments but Ukriane are looking a bit leggy now.

Germany have tired them out with crisp passing and rotation. They're better quality, basically.

Andriy Yarmolenko has not had much space today
  8. Post update

    Germany 1-0 Ukraine

Saying that, Germany have won 18 of the last 19 games in which they have led at half-time. The one game they didn't win - England's 3-2 friendly win in March.

Andre Schurrle tries to finish it but he scuffs his shot from inside the box wide of goal.

Neil Cheese: Starting to think Germany could end up doing an England.

Peter Out: Germany looking like getting a second here. Elegant flowing attacking. Ukraine retreating again.

Christian Lee Smith: Mario Gomez had a good season in Turkey . He should surely be an option now.

  10. Post update

    Germany 1-0 Ukraine

The German fans are likely to be feeling like their England counterparts last night. They are 1-0 up having played well, but their defence is not 100% solid and all it takes is one gutting moment to ruin your night.

  11. SUBSTITUTION

    Germany 1-0 Ukraine

Here is Germany's first change. Julian Draxler is the man sacrificed. Former Chelsea man Ande Schurrle replaces him.

Julian Draxler has impressed for Germany
  12. Post update

    Germany 1-0 Ukraine

The corner is aimed towards Benedikt Howedes at the near post but clears him by a yard and is headed away by a Ukrainian defender.

Bernd Howedes reflects on a missed opportunity
  13. Post update

    Germany 1-0 Ukraine

    Jens Lehmann

Former Germany goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 live

Gotze is always so dangerous when he is in the box. He can take players on even when 2v1.

That is why he is in the team in front of Mario Gomez.

  14. Post update

    Germany 1-0 Ukraine

Here is Gotze, edging into the box with the ball, but his shot sums up his performance - lacking in authority or belief. It is easily saved by Pyatov following a deflection.

Germany come again, though, and win a corner from Muller's saved shot.

Thomas Muller went close from distance
  15. SUBSTITUTION

    Germany 1-0 Ukraine

A second Ukraine change sees Oleksandr Zinchenko come on for Viktor Kovalenko.

  16. Post update

    Germany 1-0 Ukraine

Ozil hasn't managed to get into this game properly yet. He has taken up some good positions and played some neat passes around the box, but nothing truly incisive. However, he helps his side win a corner that threatens to produce something (with Andriy Pyatov out flapping) before the ball is hammered away.

Mesut Ozil has not been as effective tonight
  17. Post update

    Germany 1-0 Ukraine

    Jens Lehmann

Former Germany goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 live

Germany need to get behind the Ukrainian lines, then they become dangerous.

  18. Post update

    Germany 1-0 Ukraine

    Danny Murphy

Former England midfielder on BBC One

That was a terrific ball from Howedes. It's exactly what you want from your wide players.

  19. Post update

    Germany 1-0 Ukraine

Germany are looking for a decisive second goal, but Andriy Pyatov is holding them at bay...

  20. Post update

    Germany 1-0 Ukraine

Draxler! Over! Great delivery from Benedikt Howedes from the right but Draxler is unable to keep his header down after having got in ahead of his marker in the box.
