  1. Cheerio!

Right it is time for us to say adios, auf wiedersehen or, if you prefer, a simple goodbye.

Join us again tomorrow when we will find out the identity of the next two teams to dive into the Champions League last-eight.

Chelsea or Paris St-Germain? Zenit St Petersburg or Benfica? Take your pick. See you then!

  2. Post update

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 2-0)

  3. Post update

    Wolfsburg 1-0 Gent (agg 4-2)

Belgian champions Gent had never reached the Champions League 'proper' before this season - and they have enjoyed a memorable debut campaign.

Wins over Valencia, Lyon and Zenit St Petersburg - all seasoned European stalwarts - stuck them in the knockout phase at the first attempt.

Something for Leicester City to emulate next season perhaps...

  4. Goodbye Gent

    Wolfsburg 1-0 Gent (agg 4-2)

  5. Post update

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

It is easy for us average Sunday League players to sit here and say Roma winger Mohamed Salah should have bagged a couple tonight.

But how about some praise for Madrid keeper Keylor Navas? Go on then.

The Costa Rican stood up to everything thrown at him by the Italian visitors to keep his EIGHTH consecutive Champions League clean sheet.

That's just one game away from equalling Arsenal keeper Jens Lehmann's record of nine in 2005-06.

  6. Post update

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

  7. Sloppy Salah

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

Roma winger Mohamed Salah might find himself sat on his own on the team bus back to the airport. The former Chelsea winger was the main culprit in Roma's misdemeanours, missing three great chances to put the Italians ahead.

  8. Post update

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

Oh Roma, Roma, Roma. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in that away dressing room now. Giallorossi gaffer Luciano Spalletti is probably ordering them back onto the Bernabeu pitch for some extra shooting practice...

The Italian side missed FOUR golden chances when the score was still 0-0...

  9. Post update

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

    Wolfsburg 1-0 Gent (agg 4-2)

And joining the 10-time European champions in the last eight is a team that has never previously played in the knockout stage...Wolfsburg.

    Andre Schurrle

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

The first team to have their name scrawled on a piece of paper and thrown into the Champions League quarter-final draw....Real Madrid.

  12. Post update

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

Roma are still having a go - as they have all night. But if you don't take your chances...

Madrid keeper Keylor Navas punches clear an away corner, seconds before a stretching Edin Dzeko almost reaches another cross.

Story of Roma's night right there...

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

Roma's race in this season's Champions League is almost done. Three more minutes for Real Madrid to get over the line. They've already lapped the Italians....

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

Tonight is not the night for Roma. Right-winger Mohamed Salah, for the umpteenth time tonight, uses his electric pace to good effect down the right, flashing a low ball across the Madrid goal. There lies his team-mate Diego Perotti, whose first-time shot cracks the left-hand post.

  15. Post update

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

Roma midfielder Seydou Keita is removed for the final few minutes, giving the Madridistas a free hit to jeer a former Barcelona player. Poor fella.

  16. Post update

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

Cristiano Ronaldo's appetite for goals is insatiable. His movement is still as sharp as a brand-new stanley knife, slicing into space inside the Roma box as he tries to meet Lucas Vazquez's cross. But a last-gasp lunge from Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas nicks the ball away from Ronaldo's toe.

  17. Post update

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

Madrid know they are home and hosed. A third would be icing on the cake, but Toni Kroos' long-distance shot is straight down the throat of Roma keeper Wojciech Szczesny.

About 10 minutes to go in both last-16 ties...

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

Not very often that you see an opposing player (without a link to the home club) receiving a standing ovation. But we do now. The Bernabeu fans climb to their feet to welcome veteran Roma legend Francesco Totti on to the pitch. Respect.

Although he did turn Madrid down in his pomp apparently...

  19. Post update

Real Madrid 2-0 Roma (agg 4-0)

  20. GOAL - Wolfsburg 1-0 Gent (agg 4-2)

    Andre Schurrle (74 mins)

And that should seal Wolfsburg's place in their first Champions League quarter-final.

Wonderful wing-play from Julian Draxler, channelling his inner Stanley Matthews to drop a shoulder then whizz past a defender to the right byeline, lays the goal on a plate for Andre Schurrle.

The Germany international doesn't need asking twice, coolly burying in from eight yards.

Gent now need three goals in 16 minutes to progress...
