  1. CLOSE!

    Arsenal 1-0 Watford

    Another Arsenal chance.

Mesut Ozil springs the offside trap and keeps his composure to cut the ball back to Danny Welbeck, but his shot deflects off Sebastian Prodl and into the side netting.

The Gunners could have been three or four up already.

Having said that, Watford will be happy to just be the one behind - it keeps them in touch.

  2. GREAT SAVE!

    Arsenal 1-0 Watford

Should do better. Danny Welbeck is found by Alexis Sanchez, but the England international scuffs his shot straight to Heurelho Gomes.

Seconds later, Gomes makes a stunning, full-stretch save from Alex Iwobi's curler, which was bending towards the top corner.

  3. Post update

    Arsenal 1-0 Watford

Today's referee is Anthony Taylor, who comes across to have a word with a couple of players about jostling in the Watford box during a corner.

Nothing comes of it though and the visitors can clear. Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina has just pulled up a sofa and got his feet up.

  4. Post update

    Arsenal 1-0 Watford

Could things have been different for Arsenal this season if Egyptian central midfielder Mohamed Elneny had been signed at the start of the campaign?

He certainly isn't afraid to put himself about and looks neat in possession, too. Counterpart Mario Suarez has just been on the receiving end of a tough challenge.

  5. 'Sanchez is so good'

    Arsenal 1-0 Watford

    Garth Crooks

Former Spurs striker on Final Score

"Arsenal are playing a particularly high line, but then Ighalo and Deeney have no pace. The Gunners squeeze Watford and force a chance, and Sanchez is so good. Arsenal have their noses in front."

    Alexis Sanchez
  6. Post update

    Arsenal 1-0 Watford

Arsenal fans are standing up in the seventh minute in applause for former number seven David Rocastle who passed away 15 years ago this week.

Meanwhile, full-back Nacho Monreal finds himself in the opposition box and heads over. Watford need to wake up or they could find themselves on the end of a hammering here.

  7. GOAL - Arsenal 1-0 Watford

    Alexis Sanchez (4 mins)

    That didn't take long.

Watford will have to change their gameplan now. They've seen nothing of the ball so far in the match and fall behind.

Youngster Alex Iwobi clips the ball into the box for Alexis Sanchez, whose initial header is saved well by Heurelho Gomes, but the Chilean reacts quickest to tuck home the opener.

It's just the start Arsene Wenger will have wanted.

  8. Post update

    Arsenal 0-0 Watford

Arsenal work the ball around and Francis Coquelin picks out Alexis Sanchez with a beautiful cross-field ball.

The Chilean dinks the ball into the six-yard box and Danny Welbeck rises...

...but the Englishman has the ball taken away from his head by a fantastic Craig Cathcart header.

  9. 'The Gunners could still win the title!'

    Arsenal 0-0 Watford

    Garth Crooks

Former Spurs striker on Final Score

"The pressure has been getting to Arsenal at home. Fans' energy transfers to players, and at the Emirates you can feel the tension. But if the Gunners win all their remaining games they could still win the title!"

  10. Post update

    Arsenal 0-0 Watford

Already seeing how this match is going to pan out. Watford happy to sit back in two banks of four, letting Arsenal have the possession in front of them.

The Gunners will need to be patient and use their craft to get the opening goal this afternoon.

  11. KICK-OFF

    Arsenal 0-0 Watford

Time for a quick prayer from Mesut Ozil on the edge of the centre. Will it help him and his team-mates? Let's find out. The home side get us under way at the Emirates.

Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores: "It is difficult to find two similar matches and this is different to the FA Cup, it will be tough.

"It is difficult to prepare without having the players for two weeks. It is not the best way.

"It has been a little bit frustrating, we should have added points in the last few games but we have to be competitive."

  17. Post update

    Arsenal v Watford (15:00 BST)

It's a gloriously sunny day in north London as the players go through their warm-ups. Not a glove in sight on an outfield player. That should never be allowed anyway, unless you're a goalkeeper...or you're playing in Russia during the winter.

  18. Team news

    Arsenal v Watford (15:00 BST)

Arsenal name the same starting line-up which beat Everton last time out. That means goalkeeper Petr Cech is not quite ready to return to the eleven, and finds himself on the bench.

    Watford

Watford ended Arsenal's hopes of a hat-trick of FA Cup victory last month and the Gunners haven't won at home since.
