  1. 'We are not safe mathematically'

    Newcastle 3-0 Swansea

Swansea manager Francesco Guidolin speaking to BBC's Match of the Day:

"I think Newcastle deserved to win. In the second half we had situations and possibilities to score. It's a bad day for us. We have to look ahead to the next match away to Leicester.

"I know my job and I know footnall. We know that Newcastle play with fight, but we were ready for this game. These things can happen. After many important results this was not a good day.

When asked about motivation, with the team almost safe on 40 points: "It's difficult. But we are not safe mathematically.

"I think Newcastle will be in the Premier League next season. Rafael Benitez is a good manager."

Steve Hankey: I like Martinez but his time is up at Everton. Defence porous, squad underperforming. Pellegrini could go great things there

Pete Rowley: As a WBA fan who received so much abuse from AVFC fans during our yo-yo period, it feels brilliant to see them relegated.

  10. Championship review

Burnley have gone into second with a 2-1 win at Birmingham, Andre Gray smashing in the winner from close range. The Clarets face table-topping Middlesbrough on Tuesday at Turf Moor.

Derby have cemented their place in the playoff spots with a 1-0 win at Charlton, who are still in deep trouble in 23rd place. Sheffield Wednesday drew 1-1 with Ipswich, who’s goal came from debutant Andre Dozzell – father Jason having done the same in the 1984.

  12. GOAL - Chelsea 0-1 Man City

    Sergio Aguero

    Sergio Aguero celebrates

This is how you counter-attack. City clear a Chelsea corner and charge down the other end. Kevin de Bruyne carries the ball towards the home box before squaring for Sergio Aguero, who takes a couple of touches on the edge of the box and finds the bottom corner with a shot that deflects off the boot of the diving Gary Cahill.

  13. Manager reaction

    Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

    Louis van Gaal

More from Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal: "I have said to the boys before the match that Chelsea can beat Manchester City. Man City have the problem we had in that they have played this week and Chelsea didn't so they are more prepared. They can beat them I hope. We have three points and make some distance from Southampton and West Ham so the three points are very important.

"I'm not too happy with the performance. We have to finish the games a lot earlier and today we didn't do that."

  14. Manager reaction

    Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is not too pleased about his team's display but on Wayne Rooney he's happy: "He played a very good first half, switched the play a lot of times, the goal was a fantastic switch. In the second half he loses balls because he is tired and the rhythm is still high. When you are two months out it is difficult."

  15. Villa relegated

SMS Message: Although there's not a lot of love lost between NUFC and Villa I still can't believe a club that size can be relegated. Shocking mis-management. from Ken, Newcastle.

  16. Player reaction

    Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

Aston Villa's Joleon Lescott on relegation: "It's massive. The Premier League is where everyone wants to be, every player and every fan. Today is a disappointing day. As a fan myself I'd like to take some of that responsibility. We have four games left, I know it won't keep us in the league but we still owe the fans a lot."

  18. 'Today was what we expect from the team'

    Newcastle 3-0 Swansea

More from Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez: "Striker Papiss Cisse was fantastic up front and Aleksandar Mitrovic was good too when he came on. When you win games everybody is happy. Today we saw what we expect from this team. We have to show the same in the other games. We were not thinking about the earlier win for Sunderland over Norwich. Now we can see the table but before the game it was about focusing on the game.

Asked whether he would celebrate his 56th birthday, which is today, Benitez said: "Now we have to keep the momentum. The main thing was to get the three points and we will celebrate with our friends."

  19. 'Passion and commitment'

    Newcastle 3-0 Swansea

    Rafa Benitez

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez speaking to BBC's Match of the Day:

"I have to say congratulations to the players. They showed passion and commitment. Thank you to the fans. If we stick together then it's easier for us to approach the game and gives us the chance to win. The players that started were really good. And the other players who came on helped the team."
