It is advantage Liverpool on a night when Jurgen Klopp demonstrated why Borussia Dortmund were so sad to see him go and Liverpool are so glad they were able to bring him to Anfield.

We go again on Merseyside in a week.

  2. 'We are not frightened'

    Borussia Dortmund 1-1 Liverpool

Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel: "In a quarter-final it can be that you don’t deserve to win and that was the case.

"This was exactly what we expected from Liverpool. But we expected ourselves to be better, freer in our passing and with a better rhythm.

"We are able to score away goals as well. We are not frightened and we are not too disappointed. Tonight was not our top performance and to win you need a top performance.

"We have been to a lot of places and scored and won. It’s half-time and the players are confident. We are looking forward to the game at Anfield."

  3. 'We need to do even better at Anfield'

    Borussia Dortmund 1-1 Liverpool

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren on BT Sport: "We know it would be a tough game. They kept the ball really well. We had a couple of chances to kill them but it is a good result for us. We need to do even better at Anfield. I am satsfied for today.

"It was a great job from everyone today. We had great discipline in defence with all 11 players."

Liverpool goal-scorer Divock Origi: "Today was a big game. At a big club you have responsibilities. Everybody tried to help me so I am happy to score.

"It is a huge boost for us to produce a performance like this. It is promising for the next game."

  5. Post update

    Borussia Dortmund 1-1 Liverpool

Another reason for Liverpool to be confident...

Dortmund have been eliminated on five of the six occasions they’ve drawn the first leg of a European tie at home, progressing only in the 1993/94 UEFA Cup in a first round tie with Alania Vladikavkaz, drawing 0-0 in the first leg before winning the second leg 1-0.

    Jurgen Klopp

More from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: "Dortmund is a pretty good side and everyone could see that but we had our moments and we could have won the game.

"I’m pretty sure a lot of people thought we would lose 2, 3 or 4-0. But at some moments we had Dortmund and around our goal we were brilliant.

"We are not that far on our way like they are and we cannot at the moment play like they play, but we can defend and score goals so we can win."

On the performance of goalscorer Divock Origi: "Divock was made for this game with the space he can make and how he can hold the ball."

On his own reception from the Dortmund fans: “It was nice. A lot of people spoke about it but when I came onto the pitch it was respectful applause and that’s nice. That’s how it should be.”

  16. Post update

    Borussia Dortmund 1-1 Liverpool

Klopp receives a huge roar from the Dortmund fans as he takes to the field to give a few waves and clap the home crowd.

Lot of love for Jurgen in these parts.

    Borussia Dortmund 1-1 Liverpool

    Jurgen Klopp at full-time

Liverpool do have the advantage. Jurgen Klopp has master-minded a draw on his old stomping ground. Divock Origi's away goal is priceless but the defence can take the plaudits.

They don't often get much credit, but Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho did a sterling job.

  18. Post update

    Borussia Dortmund 1-1 Liverpool

Both sets of fans sang You'll Never Walk Alone before kick-off. It is only those in red singing it now. This has been a very disciplined, professional display and it looks like it will give them the advantage to take back to Anfield.

  19. Post update

    Borussia Dortmund 1-1 Liverpool

Dortmund continue to look for openings - a bit more frantically now than 15 minutes ago - but the Liverpool defence is holding strong.

To make the Reds' job easier, Sokratis gives away a free-kick on half-way for a shirt-pull on Philippe Coutinho.

    Two minutes added.

  20. Post update

It is the Liverpool fans singing. They are desperate for their team to get over the line with at least a draw. They only have a few more minutes to see out.
