  1. Good evening

Right, we've not heard from Roy on TV or radio so we'll have to wait for the ladies and gentlemen of the written press to let us know what he thought of that one.

Stay tuned to the site for updates as we get them. But this page is doing one.

    Until next Friday!

Or, in the meantime, follow the Copa del Rey final here.

  2. Post update

    England 2-1 Turkey

  3. But then what?

Let's not bother going at all eh Mark?

SMS Message: In a poor group we'll get through, but then what? We've got match winners, but a poor defence. QF at best. from Mark

  4. 50 up for Roy

    England 2-1 Turkey

We are yet to hear from Roy Hodgson.

But Roy is the sixth England manager to reach 50 games, after Walter Winterbottom, Alf Ramsey, Ron Greenwood, Bobby Robson and Sven-Göran Eriksson.

    Onwards great leader.

  5. Fast start

    England 2-1 Turkey

England scored in the opening five minutes of a game for the first time since September 2012 (Lampard pen v Moldova after 3 mins).

  6. Post update

No place for Jamie Vardy? Is he going to be the fall guy?

  7. England on tour

  8. 'No place for Vardy'

    England 2-1 Turkey

    Danny Mills

Ex-England defender at the Etihad for BBC Radio 5 live

"When Jamie Vardy is out wide he is pretty much anonymous. England do not play to his strengths. What he's achieved this season is remarkable, but we have to accept that. We have to pick the best team, not the best players. Vardy wants to run over the top, he's not a link player like Harry Kane is.

"He's had a fantastic season, but ultimately I don't think he makes it into the side."

Sean Ward: England only just beat Turkey. We haven't got a chance at the Euros. Back 4 were poor as well

Joseph William: What's the record for scoring in consecutive games for England? I think Vardy might fancy that record

J: Is this the part where we all say we have a chance of winning the euros because we scraped a win against Turkey?

  10. What next?

    England 2-1 Turkey

Next up - Australia next Friday night. In Sunderland.

Franny Jeffers in the studio. Surely.

  11. 'Not so sure about Sterling'

    England 2-1 Turkey

    Danny Mills

Ex-England defender at the Etihad for BBC Radio 5 live

"Raheem Sterling looks like a player lacking in confidence. He hasn't kicked on since making the move to Manchester City. Fifteen months ago he was a certain starter out wide. Now I'm not so sure, and we'll probably see a few alternative options used in the remaining friendly before the final squad is announced."

Neil Cheese: Food for thought England fans. Last team to beat Turkey was Brazil, November 2014.

Trent: Afraid that with that defence we will not be getting out of the group

  14. Player reaction

    England 2-1 Turkey

England forward Jamie Vardy: "I'm sure Harry Kane will be first to put his name forward for a penalty if we get one. Jack Wilshere is nice and calm on the ball and he can see that killer pass. There's no substitute for match practice. We started well in the 4-3-3 but we changed formations and I got the goal to win it."

England midfielder Jack Wilshere: "We have to be able to hang on to wins in a tournament, we did well today. I feel good, I'm 100%.

"I've been training for seven or eight weeks now. I am looking to improve with every game."

  15. 'Got to play Rooney'

    England 2-1 Turkey

    Danny Mills

Ex-England defender at the Etihad for BBC Radio 5 live

"You've got to play Rooney, having that experience. And there is room for him. You play Kane up front, Dier in the holding role, and Alli and Rooney in the hole. Then you allow Alli to make more runs beyond the striker than Rooney would. Rooney can influence the game more with his passing."

A human alien: We could do with some common sense practice.... people doing stupid things in the last few mins.

Steven Jerjian: Kane Vardy link-up looks promising, but priority on the training ground now has to be the defence.

Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy celebrate
  17. 'Did we learn anything?'

    England 2-1 Turkey

    Danny Mills

Ex-England defender at the Etihad for BBC Radio 5 live

"Always nice to win, good to win, no matter that it's a friendly. But it wasn't overly convincing and I'm not sure we've learned anything new. I think that'll be Roy Hodgson's only frustration."

  19. Post update

    England 2-1 Turkey

England have done enough. At times sparkling in attack, often terrifying at the back. Still, it's not that boring. Which for an international friendly is all you can ask for.

That is Turkey's first defeat in 18 months to boot.
