Probably a fair result. Everton grew tired as the match progressed. The Toffees at 100% will be tough to beat.

Everton midfielder Ross Barkley goes down for a second time in the space of two minutes.

He looks more tired than injured. Both he and the Everton midfielder have worked hard in closing down the Spurs attack.

Harry Kane has been drifting into a number 10 position to accommodate Janssen. I am not sure whether that is good for Kane individually but Tottenham have certainly looked brighter as a team since Janssen was introduced.

From the post-corner scramble, Spurs new boy Vincent Janssen comes agonisingly close to scoring on his league debut. The forward is denied by Maarten Stekelenburg who makes a cracking one-handed diving block.

12-minute warning

Spurs are desperately looking for a winner.

Kyle Walker's low drive comes off Maarten Stekelenburg and goes out for a corner...

Victor Wanyama's boot is at it again. This time it's a good block to deny Everton's Idrissa Gueye a shooting opportunity in the box.

Ramiro Funes Mori then tries a 25-yard angled drive which goes about three yards wide. The crowd went "Ooooooooh" which has probably more to do with the fact Funes Mori had a pop.

The one thing that has been questioned of Deulofeu is his work rate but that has not been the case today. His movement has caused Vertonghen and Alderweireld all sorts of problems but he may have just tired a little before his substitution.

SUBSTITUTION

Unlike Tottenham who brought on Vincent Janssen to support lone striker Harry Kane, Everton boss Ronald Koeman elects to bring on Arouna Kone and replace lone frontman Gerard Deulofeu.

So it's still one up front. Hmm...

It looks like Arouna Kone is about to come on for Everton to add some more bite to the attack.

I said in the first half the width had to come from Rose or Walker for Tottenham but they were not getting forward quickly enough. That looks to have changed and it was an excellent delivery from Walker on the right to find Lamela running into the box from deep.

We saw Jamie Vardy off target for Leicester today and fellow England striker Harry Kane (right) has been very quiet for Tottenham. He has not had any shots in the game so far and touched the ball in the opposition penalty area just once.

Compare that to Everton's Gerard Deulofeu (left) who has been very dangerous in the Spurs penalty area, causing plenty of problems including seven touches of the ball there.

Full-back Kyle Walker whips the ball in from the right and Erik Lamela, who had touched the ball once or twice prior to the goal, stoops to head in from about six yards.

Collars up Spurs.

He has been magnificent today.

Idrissa Gueye makes it very difficult for Dele Alli who tries his luck from 20 yards but fires over under pressure from the ex Aston Villa midfielder.

On this evidence Gueye will be a good signing for the Toffees.

Eric Dier comes off and is replaced by Janssen, who makes his PL debut. Obvs.

It looks like Spurs' new attacking signing Vincent Janssen is about to come on... but who for?

The Toffees are very much on the frontfoot early on here.

They win three corners in succession but fail to threaten Michel Vorm with any of the set-pieces.

Really, really poor performance from Tottenham in the first half. They moved the ball slowly around the pitch and looked lethargic. Pochettino will certainly have asked for more from his players at half-time.

Everton's new major shareholder Farhad Moshiri looks quite relaxed watching from high up. Sitting next to him chairman Bill Kenwright, who looks a little tired.

Don't be Bill, this could be an exciting half.

Lloris update

Apparently we've heard that Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris suffered a hamstring injury in the first half. Not good, but you knew that.

I think the one thing that was glaringly obvious over the last couple of seasons at Everton was that they looked poor without the ball. Immediately you can tell the difference in the first half today as Everton returned to their shape quickly and hunted the ball.

HALF-TIME

Ronald Koeman's will be delighted with the scoreline and even more delighted with the display so far.

What great reactions for Michel Vorm.

Danny Rose plays a poor backpass to the Dutch keeper which is picked up by Gerard Deulofeu. Luckily Vorm reacts brilliantly and blocks the young Spaniard's shot.

That was great from the keeper who barely had time to ...er... Vorm up.. before coming on.

Everton look really organised and you can tell Ronald Koeman has been at work on them in pre-season. They look settled in their formation and you wonder how good they will look if the three or four new signings Koeman expects materialise.

Victor Wanyama once again bundles over Kevin Mirallas. The Tottenham midfielder gets another warning from ref Martin Atkinson who appears to be in a charitable mood for the moment.

Lloris going off changes everything for Tottenham as he has been quick off his line a few times. Maybe a re-think is in order now for Mauricio Pochettino.

SHOCK SUBSTITUTION

Strange one this.

Hugo Lloris didn't appear to be struggling, but he obviously was.

The France international gestures to the bench and comes off - he is replaced by Michel Vorm.

That's a substitution option taken away for Pochettino.

With Dembele starting, Spurs lost just once in the Premier League last season but they lost five of nine games when he was absent.
