    Manchester United 4-1 Leicester

The crisis is over for now. The critics Jose Mourinho refers to as 'Einsteins' will have to think of something else.

For 25 first-half minutes today, Manchester United were sensational, a throwback to the days of Sir Alex Ferguson and Nemanja Vidic, who sat side-by-side in the directors' box watching.

Yet the focus of post-match attention will be on the man who did not start.

What now for England captain Wayne Rooney?

  3. Post update

    Manchester United 4-1 Leicester

Three defeats for Leicester already, as many as they suffered all season last year.

  4. FULL-TIME

  5. 'Leicester keep conceding goals'

It's going to be a tough season for Leicester. Some players will be complacent and other will lose form. It's up to Claudio Ranieri, the manager, to address the situation.

And it's particularity concerning that they keep conceding goals, especially in the league. That was something which didn't happen last season when the Foxes were very solid. Today, for example, four conceded, three from set pieces.

  6. 'Pogba was superb'

    Manchester United 4-1 Leicester

    Chris Waddle

Former England winger at Old Trafford for 5 live Sport

I'd say Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been the best player across the game, heavily involved in almost everything good Manchester United have done. Paul Pogba was superb in the first half but has faded.

  7. Post update

    Manchester United 4-1 Leicester

Zlatan Ibrahimovic toes a pass right out of play, shortly after Ashley Young did the same. This second half has been rubbish, but it was always going to be.

  8. SUBSTITUTION

    Manchester United 4-1 Leicester

Ashley Young is the third England international to come off the bench, he replaces Juan Mata who was excellent in that first-half showing from United.

    Mata comes off
  9. All eyes on Rooney

    Manchester United 4-1 Leicester

    Simon Stone

    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Wayne Rooney went through an extended warm-up before replacing Marcus Rashford.

With only six minutes left, he can hardly set the world alight.

But every touch he has will be scrutinised to analyse what his response to today has been. Such is the life of a high-profile footballer.

  10. Post update

    Manchester United 4-1 Leicester

Wayne Rooney's first touch - goes 15 yards.

  11. ROONEY ON

    Manchester United 4-1 Leicester

Wayne Rooney gets a run out for the last seven minutes or so, he replaces Marcus Rashford. And he is playing on the left.

    Rooney comes in
  12. Post update

    Manchester United 4-1 Leicester

Into the last 10 minutes of a nothing half. Wayne Rooney is going to come on.

  13. SUBSTITUTION

    Manchester United 4-1 Leicester

Change for Manchester United as Michael Carrick comes on in place of Jesse Lingard.

  14. GREAT SAVE!

    Manchester United 4-1 Leicester

Demarai Gray almost has another belter with a swerving cross/shot from deep on the left, I think that was more of a cross this time. Either way, David de Gea had to make a good save to push it over.

  15. Post update

    Manchester United 4-1 Leicester

A big fan of this chant from the Leicester end:

"You'll never win League One, you'll never win League One, you'll never win League One. LEAGUE ONE!"

  16. 'Leicester can't live with them'

    Manchester United 4-1 Leicester

    Chris Waddle

Former England winger at Old Trafford for 5 live Sport

    Zlatan Ibrahimovic

There are definitely more goals in this for Manchester United if they keep the tempo of the last five minutes going. Play pacey, and Leicester can't live with them.

Are you thinking of Red Rum Peter?

Is the going good for Wayne Rooney today? He is still warming up.

Peter in Dorset: When the great Bobby Charlton was at same stage of career as Rooney he used to look more ordinary until the softer ground kicked in. It will come back for Wayne.

Steve in Chelmsford: Fellaini is a far greater liability than Rooney. He is far too clumsy and ill disciplined to be a United type of player for me and causes more problems than he solves, as we saw last week at Watford. Time for him to be moved on!

Ajoykumar in Watford: Rooney is the most passionate , hardworking and dedicated English player I have ever seen. He deserves more respect for his contribution for sure.

  19. YELLOW CARD

    Manchester United 4-1 Leicester

Demarai Gray gets the ball in a similar position to where he scored from but this time he can't get a shot away.

Paul Pogba clears away and a Zlatan header almost frees Marcus Rashford - he is stopped on the run by Danny Simpson who is booked.

Adesanya Gabriel: This was Jose's plan all along, he baited Rooney to make dropping him justified. Runners needed around Zlatan to balance team.

Martin MJ: What must Wayne Rooney be thinking now? Every goal must hurt - his team is playing so much better without him.

Felix Chiteule: How different would the story be if Rooney came in and scored?
