  1. Good night

And that is all from us tonight.

See you back here tomorrow for more big action from Wales and the Republic of Ireland.

  2. Who has qualified?

Germany didn't qualify tonight in the end thanks to that win for Northern Ireland. But who has made it to Russia?

    Read here to find out.

  3. 'Wrong for us to speculate'

    England 2-1 Slovakia

    Phil Neville

Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

    Dele Alli

It's all over social media. It looked like after he did the finger he had a little smile on his face so whether it was towards one of his team-mates for a joke...? It's wrong for us to speculate who it was towards. We'll probably hear from him over the next 24 hours.

  4. 'Looking forward to a decent brew'

    Scotland 2-0 Malta

    Gordon Strachan

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan: "48 attempts on goal in the past two games, that's more than enough to win. It's been a good few days for the players.

"I'm looking forward to a decent cup of tea and then we'll start thinking about the next lot of games.

"Some of the players were making sure they didn't get involved in anything that could have brought a yellow card (and a suspension), so it was more of a low tempo."

  5. Post update

    Northern Ireland 2-0 Czech Republic

Northern Ireland won one game in their last World Cup qualifying campaign, picking up one point from their two games with Luxembourg.

  6. Post update

    Henry Winter

Chief Football Writer for the Times on BBC Radio 5 live

We live in a digital age. I think Dele Alli's finger will get a lot of the headlines tomorrow.

  7. 'Rashford lifted the whole crowd'

    England 2-1 Slovakia

    BBC Radio 5 live

    Marcus Rashford

England manager Gareth Southgate: "We didn't start the game well but I was pleased with the way the players reacted on the field. They got themselves into better positions. We were stretched in the first 15 minutes or so.

"Great credit to the players for staying in the game and then in the second half we were in control. We didn't give them space to play.

"Rashford showed everything he has tonight. At times he has to do better but his work on the ball, the maturity of his performance and his ability to go past people was devastating to the opposition and lifted the whole crowd.

"I've not seen the Dele Alli incident.

"We have to finish the job tonight."

  8. Post update

    England 2-1 Slovakia

England mustered 23 shots v Slovakia, their most in their last 12 games, since attempting 29 also v Slovakia in Euro 2016.

  9. 'This team finds something in reserve when it’s needed'

    Northern Ireland 2-0 Czech Republic

Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill told Sky Sports he was impressed by “the heart” of his players.

“It was a difficult game. It was like an away performance. credit to the Czech Republic, they made it like that. If you have that spirit and commitment, you've got a chance. We are guaranteed second, seven clean sheets in eight games is a phenomenal record.

“It would have put the pressure back on if we had lost. The point was to do it tonight and keep that momentum. This team finds something in reserve when it’s needed. It was a difficult game tactically when we didn’t have possession. It's about scoring goals and winning games, and we know how to do that.

“Jonny Evans has been fantastic in this campaign. It's no coincidence he's played in every game with these clean sheets, whoever he has played alongside. Aaron Hughes defies logic by playing like this at his age and dealing with everything thrown at him. The back four were magnificent.

“The two goals from free-kicks weren’t things we work on. Chris Brunt has as good a left foot as anyone in English football.

“It’s a bit of relief. The lads are on a high. We can enjoy the last two games. It’s nice to face the world champions knowing you have qualified for the next phase.”

  10. 'We showed great character'

    England 2-1 Slovakia

    Gareth Southgate

England manager Gareth Southgate to ITV: "To come from behind against a side with very good footballers, particularly in midfield, we had to show character.

"Marcus Rashford showed, like the rest of the team, great character. He made the mistake for their goal but he kept persevering. A lot was said to me about the crowd and they were brilliant tonight and that was a huge importance to the team.

"It's early for Marcus [in his career] so we have to keep things in perspective. He is exciting, we gave him last summer off from going with the U21s and he's benefited from that."

  11. 'I've only just seen it'

    England 2-1 Slovakia

England manager Gareth Southgate on the Dele Alli gesture: "You've only just told me just before we started. I've not seen it but obviously we'll look at it over the next couple of days."

  12. 'We started poorly'

    England 2-1 Slovakia

    Dele Alli

England goalscorer Eric Dier on BBC Radio 5 live: "We started poorly and I am happy to get a goal that kickstarted the game for us. We were in control for most of the game then.

"It is hard to put a finger on it. We weren't aggressive enough and were two seconds behind them in every pass. The way we turned it around was positive.

"I had belief. When we went 1-1 we went in to the dressing room and the feeling was we would go on to win.

"We want to have a relationship with the fans. We need their support and want to play in a way that gets that."

  13. 'I was gutted to miss the Euros'

    Northern Ireland 2-0 Czech Republic

    Chris Brunt

Northern Ireland goalscorer Chris Brunt, to Sky Sports: "I was gutted to miss out on the Euros. I've been enjoying the games since I came back in. The momentum has carried on from the Euros. It's another good night tonight. I think on the whole we had our game plan and deserved to win."

On whether finishing second will be enough for a play-off spot: "You don't know until it's confirmed. We can only do our job. We can't affect other teams' results."

  14. How the Group stands

    England 2-1 Slovakia

Scotland actually dropped a place despite winning tonight.

That chase for a play-off place is going to be tight.

  15. Post update

    Northern Ireland 2-0 Czech Republic

    Alistair Bruce-Ball

BBC Radio 5 live at Windsor Park

"We're not Brazil, we're Northern Ireland" is blasting out around Windsor Park as the fans celebrate another fantastic night. But the players' reaction was noticeably restrained as Michael O'Neill has made the point that guaranteeing the runners-up spot is only the first step towards possible qualification for a first World Cup since 1986.

  16. 'I thought my goal might be offside but I hit it anyway'

    Northern Ireland 2-0 Czech Republic

Northern Ireland goalscorer Jonny Evans to Sky Sports: "We had to work extremely hard. They pass the ball very well - we knew that from the away game. We knew it would be a lot of running. I managed to get the first goal. We didn't feel they could break us down after that. We felt comfortable. I thought my goal might be offside but I hit it anyway."

On his brother Corry winning the free-kick, with a nutmeg, for Chris Brunt's second goal: "I think he got a bit lucky. I was going to hammer him for giving the ball away.

"I'm pleased for him, he was out for most of last season. He looked sharp, Michael O'Neill always plays him in the big games. It's good to be on the pitch with your brother."

  17. The Alli gesture

    England 2-1 Slovakia

That unfriendly gesture I mentioned from Dele Alli appeared to be actually directed at the referee.

If the referee saw that, and mentions it in his report, he will be in trouble...

  18. Post update

Northern Ireland just don't concede goals! They will be a match for any team in the play-offs.

    Northern Ireland's Jonny Evans
  19. 'A clinical job'

    Northern Ireland 2-0 Czech Republic

    John O'Neill

Former Northern Ireland defender on BBC Radio Ulster

A clinical job by Northern Ireland, they took two chances in the first half even though they did not play particularly well. We set our stall out in the second half and the Czech Republic were not good enough. Goalkeeper Michael McGovern had nothing to do.

Michael O'Neill makes the right decisions all the time. He has played five at the back it the second half and the team have dealt with everything that has come at them.

The art of defending is dying but from a defensive point of view, it has been outstanding. I remember driving home after games, totally depressed but the games cannot come quick enough now. This is unbelievable.

Having looked like clinching a play-off spot, with a bit of luck, Northern Ireland will be a seed so whoever we play will not want to come to Windsor Park. If we have something to play for in the second leg, God help the team we are playing.

  20. 'A fantastic show of character'

    England 2-1 Slovakia

    Marcus Rashford

England forward Marcus Rashford: It was an important goal, we started slowly as a team and me on a personal level too. We had to go back to basics and what we had been working on as a team.

England midfielder Eric Dier: Marcus Rashford's night? It wasn't so good to begin with but it got better! A fantastic show of character after making a mistake to score and then score the winner which got us closer to the World Cup where hopefully he will shine. A really important win, it was difficult after starting really poorly but we regained composure.
