Get involved

That's all folks

And as Shane Duffy no doubt sits quietly in a corner somewhere in the away dressing room at Cardiff, that's where we'll leave it for the evening.

Plenty of EFL action to talk about, so be sure to check out all our reports from tonight's games.

We'll be back with more action at the weekend. Until then....

Not your night Shane

Cardiff 2-1 Blackburn

Shane Duffy
Rex Features

Poor old Shane Duffy, what did he do to deserve that this evening?

Two own goals and then a late second yellow card to get sent off.

Michael Pearlman watched it all unfold for BBC Sport and he can tell the full story.

Final scores

Championship:

Newcastle 4-1 Reading

Cardiff 2-1 Blackburn

Barnsley 3-2 QPR

League One:

Bristol Rovers 1-2 Bolton

Fleetwood 2-0 Oxford United

...Josh Scowen there for Barnsley, who was just one of the evening's headline makers in the Championship, grabbing a late goal to beat QPR.

A summary of the night's scorelines on the way.

Drama and excitement

Well, that wasn't too bad for talking points was it?

Josh Scowen

Wins for Bolton and Fleetwood in League One

It's all over in League One as well now, and the two sides who had the lead have held on.

Bolton go top of the table after maintaining their 100% record by winning 2-1 at Bristol Rovers, thanks to goals from Josh Vela and Jay Spearing.

And Fleetwood also have three points as David Ball and Ash Hunter were on target in their 2-0 win over Oxford.

FULL-TIME

Cardiff 2-1 Blackburn

And the final whistle blows at Cardiff City Stadium.

The hosts get the win, but the night is all about Blackburn's Shane Duffy rather unfortunately.

Two own goals from the centre-back and then a second yellow card deep in added time as he tried to rescue a point.

Cardiff will probably care little as it means their first three points of the season.

RED CARD Shane Duffy (Blackburn)

Cardiff 2-1 Blackburn

Shane Duffy off
Rex Features

Oh no Shane Duffy! As if his night couldn't get any worse?

He's shown a second yellow card as he kicks the ball away after conceding a free-kick with Blackburn pushing for that second goal.

Red card comes out and he will take a slow walk off down the tunnel.

In case you weren't with us earlier, that red card adds to his two own goals in the first half.

Cardiff 2-1 Blackburn

Blackburn push forward for an heroic equaliser, but leave space at the back for Cardiff to counter...

90+4mins: Cardiff look to hit Rovers on the counter. Gounongbe one-on-one with Steele, who makes a superb save low to his right. 2-1

FULL-TIME

Barnsley 3-2 QPR

Grant Hall's dismissal was just about the last act at Oakwell as the final whistle blows.

After losing at Ipswich on the opening day, Barnsley have bounced back with back-to-back home wins over Derby and QPR.

By the sounds of things, the Barnsley fans are pretty chuffed.

There is nothing more uplifting for Barnsley fans than to see their side show a lot of fight and skill. They have seen their side go 2-1 down but they have had the spirit to get back into it.

Derrick PalmerEx-Barnsley striker on BBC Radio Sheffield

RED CARD Grant Hall (QPR)

Barnsley 3-2 QPR

Is that it for QPR? Grant Hall pulls down Stefan Payne and is shown a second yellow card.

Rangers, who led 2-1 at Oakwell, are going to finish with 10 men.

FULL-TIME

Newcastle 4-1 Reading

Newcastle celly
Rex Features

All over at St James' Park and Newcastle have their first points of the Championship season.

It looked a bit dicey for Rafael Benitez at the break after Reading had equalised from the spot.

But, two goals in the second half from Dwight Gayle and a Matt Ritchie penalty saw them roar home.

Cardiff 2-1 Blackburn

Five minutes added on at Cardiff.

Nervy finish for Paul Trollope's side after they seemed in cruise control.

Fantastic second half at Oakwell and it looks like the hosts may have grabbed all three points.

Injury time approaching in all our games tonight.

GOAL

Barnsley 3-2 QPR - Josh Scowen (89 mins)

It looks like QPR's unbeaten start is about to come to an end as Josh Scowen converts Stefan Payne's cross on the half-volley from inside the box.

It's a great tactical decision from Paul Heckingbottom, taking off a centre forward in Marley Watkins, putting on a holding midfielder and letting Josh Scowen bomb on - and he has the goal.

Rob ScottEx-Fulham defender on BBC Radio London

GOAL

Newcastle 4-1 Reading - Gayle (89 mins)

Turning into a very comprehensive victory for Newcastle after that wobble before half-time.

Isaac Hayden, scorer of their opener, heavily involved in this one as he found space down the right.

He squared it inside to the area and it falls to Dwight Gayle for a second of the night and a close-range finish.

Last few minutes in League One

We're into the final few minutes of our two games in League One and as it stands Bolton and Fleetwood are both on course for three points.

The Trotters still lead 2-1 at Bristol Rovers, who have just gone close through Jermaine Easter, while the Cod Army are easing towards a 2-0 win over Oxford.

Barnsley 2-2 QPR

Been a very entertaining evening so far at Oakwell with four goals.

Can either side come up with a winner in the closing minutes?

Cardiff 2-1 Blackburn

Blackburn rallying late-on after Danny Graham forced them back into things...

81mins: Close! Lowe with a cross to the back post, Gallagher heads the ball back across goal but Graham just can't get on the end of it. 2-1

GOAL

Cardiff 2-1 Blackburn - Graham (77 mins)

Third goal of the night at Cardiff...

Set for a nervy finish?

Blackburn score with their first real opportunity as Danny Graham keeps his composure where Anthony Pilkington could not do so earlier. It's game on now, even though Blackburn have struggled.

Michael PearlmanBBC Wales sport

Newcastle 3-1 Reading

Jaap Stam makes some changes for visitors Reading as midfielder George Evans takes a very speculative try from distance.

He can only send his effort into the stand and the gleeful Newcastle fans behind the goal.

A harsh scoreline on Reading currently.

GOAL

Barnsley 2-2 QPR - Conor Hourihane (77 mins)

QPR led for less than three minutes thanks to a special free-kick from Conor Hourihane.

The midfielder is fouled on the edge of the box but picks himself up to hit the free-kick over the wall and into the top corner.

We're all square at Oakwell.

GOAL

Barnsley 1-2 QPR - Sebastian Polter pen (74 mins)

Tjaronn Chery was successful from the spot early, but the responsibility this time is given to German Sebastian Polter, who makes no mistake.

PENALTY TO QPR

Barnsley 1-1 QPR

It's a tale of two penalties for QPR.

After levelling from the spot early in the second half, James Bree is now adjudged to have tripped Yeni Ngbakoto and QPR have the chance to take the lead.

Super sub scores for Fleetwood

Fleetwood 2-0 Oxford

Fleetwood boss Uwe Rosler will be giving himself a pat on the back after this one.

He brings Ash Hunter off the bench and the forward repays him by scoring with a low shot within two minutes of coming on.

Blackburn show fight

Cardiff 2-0 Blackburn

Finally a good chance arrives for Blackburn. It is spurned, high, wide and not very handsome. I feel this somewhat goes without saying, but it was Shane Duffy with the miss. To say it is not his night would be a gross understatement. David Marshall in the Cardiff goal is yet to make a save of note, midway through the second half.

Michael PearlmanBBC Wales sport

GOAL

Newcastle 3-1 Reading - Gayle (69 mins)

Dwight Gayle goal
Rex Features

Audible signs of relief around St James' Park as Dwight Gayle gets a Newcastle third.

The former Palace man cracks in a right-footed free-kick from more than 30 yards out and Ali Al-Habsi cannot get across in time.

Confidence restored in the Magpies.

Duffy's evening gets harsher

Cardiff 2-0 Blackburn

Just past the hour mark at Cardiff and two own-goal man Shane Duffy is now in the referee's notebook with a yellow card.

Walking a tightrope now as well as being on an unwelcome hat-trick.

Barnsley 1-1 QPR

QPR growing into the game at Oakwell following their early penalty at the start of this half.

Jordan Cousins flashes a shot just wide of goal for the visitors.

Pirates back in it

Bristol Rovers 1-2 Bolton

Game on at the Memorial Stadium in League One where Bristol Rovers have a goal back against Bolton Wanderers.

Lee Brown's free-kick is saved by keeper Mark Howard but Ellis Harrison is on hand to net the rebound.

Newcastle 2-1 Reading

Two elegantly dressed managers on the touchline at St James Park this evening in Rafael Benitez and Jaap Stam.

Can the Dutchman play a killer hand against the Spaniard to get his side back into this one?

Benitez and Stam
Rex Features

Latest from Cardiff City Stadium

Cardiff City 2-0 Blackburn

Very quiet start to the second half, though Anthony Pilkington has missed two fine chances to increase Cardiff's lead. Unless a City defender turns as generous as Shane Duffy, it is tough to see where two Rovers goals are coming from and Cardiff are very comfortable.

Michael PearlmanBBC Wales sport

This is the worst I've ever known it as a Blackburn fan. Total rock bottom. The owners have ruined what was once a great old club. #bbcefl

DISALLOWED GOAL

Newcastle 2-1 Reading

Reading have the ball in the net for a second time tonight, but this one won't stand.

Roy Beerens creeps into an offside position in the build-up for a lay off to Danny Williams with his cute finish inside the area.

Looked nice, but worth nothing ultimately.

Ball on the ball for Fleetwood

We have a first goal of the night at Highbury where Fleetwood have the lead against Oxford.

David Ball is the man on target for the Cod Army, curling a shot from the edge of the box off the post and into the top corner.

GOAL

Newcastle 2-1 Reading - Ritchie pen (50 mins)

A number of bodies went down in the area as Newcastle were awarded that penalty.

Unclear who got fouled, but Chris Gunter is booked in the process for Reading.

Up steps Matt Ritchie from the spot and he dispatches his first goal for the club despite Ali Al-Habsi going the right way.

GOAL

Barnsley 1-1 QPR - Chery pen (47 mins)

Tjaronn Chery fires his spot-kick straight down the middle and Rangers are level right at the start of the second half.

PENALTY TO QPR

Barnsley 1-1 QPR

What a start to the second half at Oakwell. With the words of boss Jimmy Floyd Haasselbaink still ringing in the QPR players' ears, Sebastian Polter is brought down in the box and the referee points to the spot.

Sebastian Polter fouled

PENALTY TO NEWCASTLE

Newcastle 1-1 Reading

Drama from the off again at St James's Park.

Newcastle get a penalty awarded to them as the referee adjudges that there was a foul as a corner came in for the hosts.

KICK-OFF

Back under way in tonight's three Championship games.

Big 45 minutes coming up at St James' Park as Newcastle continue to hunt for a first win of the season.
