Thanks for your company

Thanks for joining me tonight, on another breathless night of Championship action.

It was a night when Newcastle hit six past QPR to stay second, Barnsley eased past Wolves to stay third and Norwich moved up to fourth with victory over Wigan.

There was a first defeat for leaders Huddersfield at Brighton, but a first home win for Leeds under Garry Monk. Blackburn though... They stay bottom and will need to improve - quickly.

That's it from me for now. Do be sure to check out all of tonight's Championship match reports. Good night!

Tonight's League One result

FT: Bristol Rovers 1-1 Walsall

Both Bristol Rovers and Walsall are made to wait for their second win of the season, and the two sides remain in the bottom six of the League One table, after a 1-1 draw at the Memorial Stadium.

Matty Taylor levelled from the spot for the hosts after Erhun Oztumer's early opener for Walsall.

Zenga's anger

FT: Wolves 0-4 Barnsley

The Tykes are in dreamland after a huge away win but, by contrast, the Wolves boss doesn't seem at all impressed.

Magpies hit QPR for six

FT: QPR 0-6 Newcastle

There can be little arguing about the result of the night - Newcastle fans are starting to really enjoy life in the second tier!

Looking good, Barnsley fans?

It's early days, but let's have a look at the top six in the table, shall we?

BBC Sport

Fulham's late equaliser keeps them in the top six, while Huddersfield stay top despite their defeat at Brighton, their first of the league season.

Sheffield Wednesday 3-2 Bristol City

Have you ever seen anything like that! #swfcLIVE

Have you ever seen anything like that! #swfcLIVE

Sheffield Wednesday's tweet says it all! The answer? I'm not sure I have.

Blues still unbeaten on the road

FT: Reading 0-0 Birmingham

Birmingham keep a third straight clean sheet in the Championship, as both sides make it three games unbeaten.

A late, late winner for Wednesday!

Sheffield Wednesday 3-2 Bristol City

An extraordinary end to the match at Hillsborough, where Sheffield Wednesday have come from 2-0 behind to win 3-2 thanks to Kieran Lee's late goal.

Even at 2-1, Bristol City had a penalty after Sam Hutchinson was sent off. But Lee Tomlin missed, Gary O'Neil then saw red for the visitors and that proved decisive.

Meanwhile, in our late games...

Sheff Wed 2-2 Bristol City, Reading 0-0 Birmingham

They are still playing at both Hillsborough and the Madejski Stadium, as those two matches kicked off at 20:00 BST.

Substitute Diego Fabbrini has shot wide for Birmingham in the closing stages, while the Owls are pushing against Bristol City, looking to complete a remarkable comeback from 2-0 down.

A big win for Preston

FT: Norwich 2-1 Wigan, FT: Preston 3-0 Cardiff

Preston celebrate
Rex Features

To round up the last couple of 19:45 BST kick-offs, the final whistle has blown at both Carrow Road and Deepdale, where home victories have been recorded.

Norwich were made to sweat late on by Wigan. Preston, evidently, were not really made to sweat by Cardiff.

FULL-TIME: Leeds 2-1 Blackburn

There it is! The referee blows and Garry Monk has his first victory at Elland Road.

How damaging is this defeat for Owen Coyle though? The Rovers boss remains without a league win, after seven attempts, and his side are now rock bottom of the league.

Worrying times indeed for the former Premier League winners...

Into the dying seconds

Leeds 2-1 Blackburn

Leeds and Blackburn are playing seven minutes of stoppage time. Can the hosts hold on for their first home win of 2016-17?

FULL-TIME: Brighton 1-0 Huddersfield

Rex Features

Huddersfield lose in the league for the first time this season, but they remain top of the Championship by a point.

Worried Rams?

FT: Derby 0-1 Ipswich, FT: Wolves 0-4 Barnsley

Derby have lost a third game in a row, which not many people would have predicted at the start of the season.

To put their start to 2016-17 into context, they're 11 points off the leaders and 10 points behind Barnsley - who have won 4-0 at Wolves.

Fulham equalise late

FT: Fulham 1-1 Burton

Fulham goal
Rex Features

Burton's quest for a first away victory in the Championship appears to be going on as Ryan Sessegnon finishes from close range for Fulham after a fumble from Sone Aluko's initial effort by Brewers keeper Jon McLaughlin

FULL-TIME: QPR 0-6 Newcastle

Convincing, dominant and lethal - Newcastle have thrashed a QPR side that a lot of people have tipped for good things this season.

Rafael Benitez's side have six straight wins in all competitions and they stay second.

GOAL: Leeds 2-1 Blackburn

Kyle Bartley

Relief for Leeds! They might have a priceless victory! Defender Kyle Bartley heads in with four minutes to play.

Wolves 0-4 Barnsley, Sheff Wed 2-2 Bristol City

Barry Bannan
Rex Features

Who could have predicted this? The Tykes are running riot. Barnsley have a fourth and it's Tom Bradshaw with his second goal for the club.

All the while, Barry Bannan has smashed in an equaliser from long range for Sheffield Wednesday. Suspect goalkeeping? I think so.

QPR 0-6 Newcastle

Christian Atsu has hit the bar for Newcastle. Ayoze Perez's run was outstanding. It could, and perhaps should, be seven.

Christopher Haywood: Forget Newcastle United, it's Barnsley who are lighting up the Championship right now.

As things stand, Barnsley will remain third in the Championship, but just a point off top spot, having been promoted through the play-offs last season.

Tykes at the treble

Wolves 0-3 Barnsley

What a season Barnsley are having so far, and what a run they have enjoyed since Paul Heckingbottom arrived last season!

Goals from Adam Hammill and Saidy Janko have extended their lead at Molineux and they are staying in the top three tonight!

GOAL: Brighton 1-0 Huddersfield

Anthony Knockaert

Anthony Knockaert

The early-season leaders have fallen behind! Brighton find the breakthrough as Anthony Knockaert's shot slides underneath Danny Ward's grip in the Terriers' goal.

It's been a good Championship game at the Amex - could that be the winner? 10 minutes remain.

GOAL: Leeds 1-1 Blackburn

Marvin Emnes

What a big goal this could be for the side bottom of the Championship going into this match!

Marvin Emnes, playing in just his second Rovers match since joining on loan from Swansea, has scored his first goal for the club by striking from the edge of the area.

Uday Tumuluri: Can Newcastle be promoted mid season instead of Sunderland... Right now we don't belong in the Championship.

Ian Wilson: Had a feeling relegation might bizarrely be the making of us. Seems might be right! #nufc #bbcefl

GOAL: QPR 0-6 Newcastle

Grant Hanley

It's yet another goal for Newcastle. Defender Grant Hanley gets in on the act, turning into the bottom left-hand corner, first time, from Ciaran Clark's low cross. This is really easy for the visitors.

Two red cards and a missed penalty

Sheffield Wednesday 1-2 Bristol City

Unbelievable. Just unbelievable. Where do I even begin trying to describe what's just happened at Hillsborough? Here goes nothing...

Sheffield Wednesday's Sam Hutchinson concedes a penalty and is sent off. Lee Tomlin steps up, smashes the post, the ball rebounds all the way back to the halfway line, Gary O'Neil then fouls Gary Hooper and is also sent off. All in the space of about 60 seconds.

So, to sum up, the Robins have missed a penalty and it's 10 v 10. Understood?

'No-one closing him down'

Norwich 2-1 Wigan

Will Grigg
Rex Features

(Gomez) had far too much time to place his shot there. No-one was closing him down. Wigan have done nothing, that's the disappointing thing.

Darren EadieFormer Norwich striker Darren Eadie on BBC Radio Norfolk

Wolves 0-1 Barnsley, Norwich 2-1 Wigan

Barnsley take the lead at Wolves thanks to their captain Conor Hourihane, while Jordi Gomez pulls one back for Wigan at Norwich.

Brighton 0-0 Huddersfield

Brighton have brought on Glenn Murray to replace Tomer Hemed. Can the 32-year-old Bournemouth striker find his fourth goal for the Seagulls and win this game for the home side?

It's been a close game so far.

Aidan Dobinson Booth: Two words to sum up Newcastle performance tonight - "wow" and "boom".

AndyMac: "Newcastle a class apart, a really good side" 0-5 away and we're coming for you mackems - hang on in there, don't get relegated.

Meanwhile, we've got another weather update from 'The North'...

@#bbcefl lovely sunset in the North - of Malta!

@#bbcefl lovely sunset in the North - of Malta!

GOAL: Leeds 1-0 Blackburn

Chris Wood

How big could this goal be for Garry Monk's side?

Chris Wood scores first time, tucking in from inside the area to give Leeds real hope of a first home win of the season. The relief is clear to see at Elland Road!

Winless Blackburn could be set to remain rooted to the bottom of the table...

Chris Wood

Sheff Wed 1-2 Bristol City

From a Fernando Forestieri corner, Sheffield Wednesday pull one back with a header from the unmarked Steven Fletcher.

The Scotland striker has his second goal for the Owls.

GOAL: QPR 0-5 Newcastle

Aleksandar Mitrovic

This isn't intentionally the Newcastle United live text show... But they're making it so! This is quite a performance!

The Magpies get the fifth goal of the 13 scored so far tonight in the Championship as Aleksandar Mitrovic converts from inside the six-yard area, after good work from Christian Atsu.

They're making it look easy.

Tammy Abraham
Rex Features

There's a lot of love knocking around for the boy Tammy tonight. Bristol City sold Jonathan Kodjia for £11m a couple of weeks ago, yet the division's top goalscorer is still theirs...

Phillippa Gillett: Tammy Abraham has been amazing for Bristol City so far this season! Shame we've only got him on loan until the end of season.

Duncan Rowe: Following #BristolCity from Seattle on #bbcefl - if Tammy Abraham stays fit we could be looking at a great season... Great loan signing.

For the record, we're back under way in our two late kick-offs.

'QPR need leadership'

"You need leadership amongst the QPR ranks or else this game could really run away from them. Newcastle are just attacking at free will and are just not being stopped. This could be as many as Newcastle want it to be."

QPR 0-4 Newcastle

Newcastle are denied a fifth by a fine save from Alex Smithies, who palms Aleksandar Mitrovic's close-range header onto the bar.

GOAL: QPR 0-4 Newcastle

Ciaran Clark

This is some statement, from Rafael Benitez's side. They are cruising to victory now.

Ciaran Clark has his first goal for the club, heading in to the delight of the travelling fans.

And Jackson Irvine has given Burton the lead at Craven Cottage.

'Goal of Premier League quality'

QPR 0-3 Newcastle

Bradley Allen

Former QPR striker on BBC Radio London

"It's a peach of a goal of Premier League quality. He just shifted it out of his feet and curled the ball into the top right-hand corner. The goalkeeper is not going to save that."
