Good night

FT: Celtic 3-3 Manchester City

I'll give Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers the final word on what was a fantastic night of football.

"Tonight is hopefully a really good marker on how much the players have improved in a short space of time but I know there is a long way to go in terms of where we want to be."

Many thanks for your company. We'll do this Champions League dance again soon.

Celtic meet Borussia Monchengladbach in Glasgow on 19 October, while City travel to Group C leaders Barcelona in what should be another cracker.

That was a match to savour. As for the atmosphere...wow! Great game. 3-3 #celticvcity

One of the best atmospheres I've ever experienced at Celtic Park. Pre-match was arguably the best I've heard anywhere

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on BBC Radio 5 live: "It was a fantastic game for everybody. We scored three goals but didn't win. It was an amazing effort to recover in this stadium.

"Manchester City don't have the history in Europe, we have to create it. This might be an important lesson for us - how to start well.

"We played better in the second half, they didn't have any chances after their third goal.

"When the fourth team in the pot is Celtic, you know how tough it is to qualify. Thinking about the performance, we tried to win the game until the end so I am satisfied."

FT: Celtic 3-3 Manchester City

More from Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers at his post-match media conference: "That was a big, big performance from us and we felt we could have won but we're are happy with a point. Collectively, we were outstanding.

"The support was amazing and that combination of the players' effort and the atmosphere made it a difficult night for Manchester City.

"For large parts of that game we were a real threat."

A real 'I was there' night at #Celtic. Entertaining, enthralling and exhausting to watch. Home side immense. Pride restored and then some.

'A magnificent performance'

FT: Celtic 3-3 Manchester City

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers on BT Sport: "I can't criticise the team, but there's always elements we can be better in. We were brilliant, the pressing and the energy. Every time we went forward we looked like we could score.

"Apart from the Barcelona game these players have been operating at a high level this season. Now, to do it against that team, it was a magnificent performance.

"How we defend is what we've been working on. All my teams have played with that intent. We have players that are developing and evolving all the time.

"Tonight, how they played and performed was top class. That will give them confidence going forward."

'We should have won it'

FT: Celtic 3-3 Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on BT Sport: "It was difficult for us. I'm happy with the reaction from the players, it's not easy to score three goals away.

"I don't know how many the chances they had after the third goal. We should have won it.

"It's disappointing to concede at the beginning of each half, but that's football. I know how difficult it is here and they started so strong. The second goal was unlucky, and I don't remember any action for them after they scored their third goal.

"It's okay, it's one point, we didn't lose. You always learn. Now we have Barcelona, maybe the best team. We think about Spurs and, after the international break we'll think about that.

A good clean fight

It's worth noting that there wasn't a single booking at Celtic Park. There was no quarter given but the game was played in a great spirit, with no cynical nonsense.

Brendan Rodgers 'deserves a lot of credit'

Neil Lennon

Hibernian manager on Radio Scotland

"I have never seen a Guardiola team so disrupted as in that first hour. Celtic were brilliant tonight.  You have to give a lot of credit to Brendan Rodgers - the way he set the team up, the mentality, his substitutions.  Some of the players really surpassed themselves - Dembele, Sinclair, Scott Brown again. Craig Gordon restored his reputation as well.  I am sure it is a very tired, but very happy, dressing room."

Kumail Jaffer: Sterling has stepped up his game tenfold since Pep came in. A case of a 'fallen' star rising again?

FT: Celtic 3-3 Manchester City

Celtic's Scott Sinclair on BT Sport: "The fans were right behind us and the atmosphere was unbelievable. That's what spurred us on. We kept going, going forward and creating chances.

"We keep improving. We learned from the Barcelona defeat. We took the negatives out of it and performed tonight."

FT: Celtic 3-3 Manchester City

"This is massive for our belief," Celtic hero Moussa Dembele tells BT Sport. "If we keep producing games like that, we can get something out of this Champions League."

Celtic 'put it up to Man City'

Pat Bonner

Former Celtic goalkeeper on Radio Scotland

"That was incredible - European football, Champions League football, Scottish football and probably English football all at its best. Celtic hung in at the end and Man City showed what they could do in the last half-hour but Celtic deserved a draw.  It would have been a travesty if they hadn't taken something from the game. They put it up to Man City tonight."

There was some embarrassment after the 7-0. These Celtic fans feel like they should be at the top table and they wonder if they will ever be there again. The answer, very quickly, is yes.

It was fantastic. I enjoyed every second. Celtic hung on in there. Any England fans feeling down right now, cheer up - Sterling is phenomenal at the moment. It's a great game - neither side deserved to lose.

GREAT SAVE!

Celtic 3-3 Manchester City

Suddenly space opens up for Ilkay Gundogan after another jinking run from Raheem Sterling. The City midfielder has a pop and the shot deflects off Erik Sviatchenko meaning Craig Gordon needs to readjust quickly to bat the ball over the crossbar.

What was I saying about Scott Brown struggling? The captain grits his teeth, digs deep, and throws himself in front of a Raheem Sterling shot as City camp on the edge of the Celtic box.

You're so proud of both sides, wanting to go for the win. It would be slightly unfair if City do get it, Celtic probably just deserve a draw.

Celtic 3-3 Manchester City

Celtic might have been better removing captain Scott Brown there since the midfielder is struggling to recover from a robust Fernandinho challenge and isn't moving very well.

Substitution

Celtic 3-3 Manchester City

Celtic make their final change. And it's a bold one.

Holding midfielder Nir Bitton is off and striker Leigh Griffiths in on for the closing stages.

Raheem Sterling bundles through a couple of challenges and the ball falls to City team-mate Fernandinho, who decides to have a lash from 25 yards, with his rising shot not missing by much.

Celtic 3-3 Manchester City

Moussa Dembele has put in an incredible shift for Celtic. The Frenchman has scored twice and done a power of running up front on his own. Celtic Park erupts in approval as he hares back deep into his own half to dispossess Pablo Zabaleta.

Celtic have been absolutely superb tonight, way beyond what we have seen from them in the last four to five years. It has been brilliant so far but they are just starting to a look a bit fatigued. I would like to see another substitution for Celtic. The tempo has definitely dropped slightly."

Substitution

A defensive reshuffle for City as Gael Clichy makes way for John Stones. That will see Aleksandar Kolarov move to his more accustomed left-back role. The Serbia international has had a bit of a 'mare in the middle.

You know the game couldn't go at the same pace that it did in the first half. Celtic are the team that are wilting that little bit more.
