Celtic seal return date to Hampden

FT: Rangers 0-1 Celtic

So Celtic will meet Aberdeen in the League Cup final at Hampden on Sunday 27 November after knocking out Rangers in a lively semi-final.

Moussa Dembele was the man who once again proved a thorn in Rangers' side. After bagging a hat-trick in the 5-1 demolition at Celtic Park, the French striker finished superbly three minutes from time to give Celtic the victory after they pounded their rivals for long spells of the match.

Next up for both clubs is Premiership duty on Wednesday night as Rangers take on St Johnstone at Ibrox while Celtic travel to the Highlands to face Ross County.

Rodgers hails ''great victory' for Celtic

FT: Rangers 0-1 Celtic

“A wonderful advert for the game here in Scotland. I thought we thoroughly deserved to win it.

"We created a host of chances . Our defensive aggression was very good. I think you seen today the level the players are at fitness-wise. Their power and aggression in defending was there to see.

"I think we stopped Rangers building which is a key part of their game. We were able to create lots of chances but unfortunately didn’t take them, but we got there in the end.

"Overall a great victory for us.”

'I couldn't believe goal was ruled out'

FT: Rangers 0-1 Celtic

Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko believes referee Craig Thomson called it wrong when he disallowed his headed goal for a foul on Lee Wallace.

“I couldn’t believe it wasn’t allowed because I thought I did brilliant getting him off me and heading into the back of the net but Moussa did well scorring at the end and we are in the final," Sviatchenko said.

"I thought we were the better team and when you take the initiative and dominate the other team then you will be rewarded and we did in the end."

'Now we have to go and win the final

FT: Rangers 0-1 Celtic

“When the ball came I saw it was a bit behind me so it was the only thing I could do to try to score, I’ve done it and thankfully the ball went in.

"We’re all happy that we are in the final and now we have to go and win it.

"I wouldn’t say it was a different Rangers because it was the same players but today they stayed compact, but we were the better team today."

FULL-TIME

Rangers 0-1 Celtic

Moussa Dembele's goal proves to be the winner as Celtic book their place in the League Cup final where they will face Aberdeen.

Rangers 0-1 Celtic

After a hat-trick in the 5-1 league win over Rangers, Moussa Dembele looks to have put the Ibrox club to the sword yet again.

90 seconds left at Hampden....

GREAT SAVE!

Rangers 0-1 Celtic

Rangers are hanging on now.

Griffiths races free of the Rangers defence and is one-on-one with Matt Gilks but the keeper stays tall and palms away the clipped finish.

Great goalkeeping.

GOAL Rangers 0-1 Celtic

Moussa Dembele

Finally the breakthrough comes for Celtic, and the Griffiths-Dembele partnership pays dividends.

Griffiths gets in behind the tired Rangers defence, caresses a lovely square ball with the outside of the left foot towards Dembele, who applies a stunning flick with his trailing foot to divert the ball past Gilks and into the net.

A wonderful goal and you have to say a deserved one for Celtic.

GREAT SAVE!

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Matt Gilks rescues Rangers. James Forrest slips in Stuart Armstrong who bears down on goal but Gilks is out quickly once again to make a terrific reaction save with his left foot.

The Rangers keeper has been outstanding today.

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Joe Dodoo earns Rangers a corner with some positive play.

The ball is clipped into the area where Joe Garner tries to volley at goal on the turn but his effort lacks power and Gordon saves easily.

PENALTY APPEAL

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

The Celtic fans are screaming for a penalty as Scott Sinclair goes down under the challenge of Lee Wallace but, after a long hard look, referee Craig Thomson waves play on.

After seeing a replay, it looks like a brilliantly timed tackle from Wallace.

SUBSTITUTION

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Rangers make their final change with the introduction of Joe Dodoo in place of Barrie McKay.

'Can Rangers hold out'

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Pat Bonner

BBC Scotland pundit

"You just wonder if Rangers can hold out with the firepower that Celtic have on the pitch. Stuart Armstrong's been influential since he's gone on. Then you've got Leigh Griffiths, Moussa Dembele, Scott Sinclair. James Forrest who has been quiet but can come alive at any time. Will Rangers hold out here?"

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Andy Halliday looks out on his feet and he gifts possession to James Forrest who glides forward and curls a left-foot effort a couple of yards wide.

So many attempts from Celtic but they have not been clinical enough.

Will they be punished for their wastefulness in front of goal?

CLOSE!

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

The Griffiths-Dembele partnership looks threatening.

First Leigh Griffiths engineers a yard of space in the box but his left-foot strike is straight at Matt Gilks.

Moments later Moussa Dembele curls a right-footed effort from the edge of the box inches wide of the post.

16 shots on goal from Celtic, five on target but still they can not get that opening goal.

You would think whoever scores first wins this now.

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Rangers are starting to stem the tide here and are looking more dangerous themselves.

Lee Wallace goes galloping up the left flank and aims a ball towards Joe Garner in the penalty area but he just can't get a foot to the cross.

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Rangers get a breather with a rare foray into enemy territory.

James Tavernier tries his luck from 25 yards but a deflection takes the sting out his effort and Craig Gordon gathers comfortably.

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Leigh Griffiths slides the ball across the face of goal and Clint Hill makes an absolutely crucial intervention, his touch taking it away from the toe of Stuart Armstrong who would have had an empty net to slot the ball into.

Rangers coming under relentless pressure now.

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Richard Wilson

BBC Scotland at Hampden Park

Celtic continue to look the team most likely to score, although their most threatening player since the interval has been Tom Rogic from the number 10 position.

The wingers, Scott Sinclair and James Forrest, have not been influential in open play, while Moussa Dembele has been engaged in a physical contest with Rob Kiernan and Clint Hill.

Leigh Griffiths' introduction will provide a different edge to Celtic's play, while Rangers have brought on Martyn Waghorn and Joe Garner, moving James Tavernier into central midfield.

Both managers have played a hand now, so how will the game react?

SUBSTITUTIONS

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Rangers make a double switch as Joe Garner and Martyn Waghorn come on for Josh Windass and Kenny Miller.

Celtic also make a change as Leigh Griffiths replaces Tom Rogic, so Griffiths and Dembele have a chance to prove their credentials as a partnership.

HITS THE WOODWORK

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

How has that not gone in?

Scott Sinclair with a beautifully struck free-kick whoch rattles the crossbar and lands safely back in the arms of Matt Gilks.

As close as we've come to the opening goal.

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Powerful play from Scott Brown who drives towards the edge of the Rangers box before he is hauled down from Andy Halliday.

Free-kick for Celtic in a very dangerous area.

'Celtic not themselves'

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Pat Bonner

BBC Scotland pundit

"It's not quite the clinical Celtic we've seen in the past."

SUBSTITUTION

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Celtic make their first change with Stuart Armstrong replacing Nir Bitton.

CLOSE!

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

The ball is clipped into Moussa Dembele by Tom Rogic. The Frenchman spins but doesn't catch his shot cleanly and Matt Gilks saves.

The game is wide open now.

GREAT SAVE!

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Game becoming stretched now. Rangers keeper Matt Gilks gets the slightest of touches on a Moussa Dembele shot to steer it across the face of goal to relative safety.

BIG CHANCE

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Best chance of the game and it falls to Jason Holt. James Tavernier advances down the right flank and rolls the ball across goal where Holt arrives right on cue, but from a central position in front of goal his goal-bound shot is brilliantly blocked by Jozo Simunovic.

Barrie McKay can only follow up with a shot straight into Craig Gordon's arms.

CLOSE!

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Moussa Dembele tees up Tom Rogic who pulls the trigger with his trusty left foot but the strike is just inches wide of the post.

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Liam McLeod

BBC Sport Scotland commentator at Hampden

This game is like a pendulum at the moment, going from one end to the other.

GREAT SAVE!

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Scott Sinclair and Tom Rogic combine to carve Rangers open. Sinclair bears in on goal at the left hand side of the six yard box but Matt Gilks rushes out to block the shot.

Great goalkeeping. Celtic turning the screw.

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

"He's had two big calls and he has got them both absolutely correct. Great refereeing from Craig Thomson."

BBC Scotland summariser Billy Dodds

DISALLOWED GOAL

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

Erik Sviatchenko heads into the Rangers net and runs away to celebrate only to realise he has been penalised for his challenge on Clint Hill.

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

James Forrest is lively at the start of the second-half. Scott Brown slips it to the winger who turns and goes at Clint Hill, getting the shot away but Hill does well to get a block in to put it behind for a corner.

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

James Forrest shapes to shoot on the edge of the Rangers box, feints one way and shifts it on to the left foot but his curling effort is too high to trouble Matt Gilks.

Rangers 0-0 Celtic

No changes for either side at the break.
