Sadozaie: MCFC will have a big say on title race remember? when they were behind on 2 previous occasions with very few games left.

'Believe' in the title race

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino: "I think in the last few games the opponents have played very deep and closed the gaps, difficult to break down. It's important the control we showed today and the chances we created.

"I don't think they had a shot on target which is also important. I think we showed we were much better and deserved the win.

"When you don't kill the game you leave it open. In the last second you can concede, that's the Premier League. Thankfully it didn't and we are happy."

Are you frustrated Chelsea are not any closer? "I am not frustrated, we need to understand that from September they have only lost once, against us. That speaks well about us. At the same time we have to believe. We need to believe always."

Boro bottom of shooting pile

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

You'd struggle to criticise Middlesbrough at the back today. They stuck to their plan and got key challenges in on times against a side full of quality. But the other end of the pitch looks more and more like the area where things must improve for the north-east club.

They didn't have a single shot on target today, with Marten de Roon's pulled volley at the death their key miss.

Worryingly, Boro have attempted a league-low 56 shots on target in the Premier League this season, that's 16 fewer than any other team.

'We had chances to score'

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka speaking to BBC Sport: "At the end we had a few chances to score. I said at half-time the way we had to play, without pressure.

"If you are here playing under pressure against Tottenham it is impossible and at the end we had chances to score.

"The players did their best and that is the good thing. They put everything on the pitch.

"It was a penalty (Tottenham goal). We showed that we can compete against the best teams. We have to keep going with this attitude and commitment. If we do we will win more games.

"Again, we have to know it will be a tough season but we are showing we can compete against every single team.

"I am confident (of surviving relegation). With these players, knowing they will do their best every day, that is the main thing as a coach. Playing the way we have in the last few games, we will win games."

Home comforts

Spurs have now won each of their last seven home league games. They last achieved a longer run in August 2009 when they put an eight-game run together.

They are yet to be beaten at home this season. It's 12 league games, 10 wins, two draws.

They go to Liverpool next. Jurgen Klopp's side in anything but good form of course.

'We are pretty unlucky'

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough's Ben Gibson speaking to BT Sport: "We are unlucky really. You know they will have lots of possession and create chances. We tried to make it hard and stay in the game and maybe get a chance at the end.

"We didn't take it. We are pretty unlucky coming away with nothing.

"You cant come and match them. They are a fantastic team who have played great football for a long time. If you think you can come and outplay them then you have another thing coming. We set up well to limited their chances."

Asked about the relegation battle, Gibson said: "No one said it will be easy. Everyone in the town knows that.

"We spent seven years working to get back into the Premier League and now we are back we won't give up without a fight.

"The results have not gone our way lately but we know we have to focus on ourselves and work the way we can and the wins will come."

Boro clinging on

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough a point above the Premier League champions. You'd have taken that sentence at the start of the season eh Boro fans?

My word it's getting tight down there.

Bottom of the Premier League
.

'We'll take 1-0'

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham goal scorer Harry Kane speaking to BT Sport: "We created the chances we just weren't finishing them. We are delighted with the win. No game is easy in the Premier League. We'll take 1-0.

"We found it difficult midweek at Sunderland and knew it would be similar today. I thought we did better today. We should have won 2-0 or 3-0 but 1-0 is enough and we recover for next week.

"We have a strong squad. We can rotate players and keep them fresh. We want to win trophies. Hopefully we can."

'It's a long season'

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

Son Heung-Min

Son Heung-Min on whether Tottenham can catch Chelsea: "We keep it game to game.

"Now we've won it is very important but it's a long season. We need to focus on game to game."

Doubling up

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

Probably my favourite image of the day. When one tackle isn't enough, double up and get the job done.

My eyes are bleeding

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

Oh no. Son Heung-Min and Kyle Walker just did some sort of rehearsed dance. What is it with footballers. Stop rehearsing dances. When a human passes the age of eight, they don't want to copy it anymore (unless of course they are footballers).

'Tottenham had to work for it'

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

Matthew Upson

Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

Tottenham had to work for it, it's far from the polished performance that Pochettino would have wanted from his side.

But it's three points, and if you would have offered them that before the match, they would have taken it.

They can't think about Chelsea, they just need to keep going, winning matches and racking up the points.

FULL-TIME

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

The final free-kick is lifted into the area but Tottenham stand tall.

That wasn't pretty, it wasn't exactly the feast of quality we know they can serve up but still, sometimes you just have to get it done.

Harry Kane with the winner. I've typed that a few times before.

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

Another ball about to be loaded into the Tottenham box....

Harry Kane has gone off, Vincent Janssen on. Spurs almost having to waste time with a late change.

Boro win a free-kick and this will go into the mixer...

CLOSE!

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

What a chance. They have waited 92 minutes for that.

A long ball, a flick on and Alvaro Negredo clips the ball into the path of Marten de Roon. It drops over his shoulder to hit first time and he pulls it wide.

Aitor Karanka looks angrier than a man who has lost a winning lottery ticket.

Victor Valdes hoofs forward, Middlesbrough need to win this ball and they do...

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

Despite the fact they lead and will be second in the table, there has been too much of this from Tottenham today. Too many poor decisions in the final third.

Three added minutes.

What's this, Middlesbrough having a go. Aitor Karanka looking hopeful as his side force a corner but the ball is cleared and put back in with no quality at all by Adam Clayton.

SUBSTITUTION

SHOWBOAT

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

"That's ridiculous", says a colleague as Alvaro Negredo attempts an overhead kick from around 16 yards out. It's a cracking effort to be fair and flashes across goal. I'd say Hugo Lloris had it covered but still, kudos to you Mr Negredo.

CLOSE!

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

Harry Kane spots Dele Alli well placed in the box and his high ball is plucked from the air brilliantly by the young midfielder. Alli tries to square for Kane in the six-yard box but a superb last-ditch tackle denies him. The keeper is on the deck, Christian Eriksen has the loose ball and can fire... deflected wide.

'Boro have been disappointing'

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

Matthew Upson

Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

Middlesbrough have dug in and given a decent account of themselves, but in a sense they've been disappointing because this was an opportunity to come here and play for a result without pressure. Even now they could be committing men forwards - they may as well lose 3-1 rather than 1-0.

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

Going into this final 10 minutes or so it's hard to see a Middlesbrough goal. They are trying but in truth it's all a little blunt. Adam Clayton plays a diagonal into the box, headed clear.

SUBSTITUTION

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

Patrick Bamford on, Adama Traore off. If I'm a Tottenham player I'm thrilled to see the pace of Traore disappear.

Son Heung-Min off, Moussa Sissoko on. Son was very good. Our statisticians have him down as having played four key passes. And, of course, he won the penalty.

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

Again Tottenham are sloppy with a glorious chance on offer. A three versus two scenario, Middlesbrough's two central defenders backtracking, yet Harry Kane forces Dele Alli wide and his cut-back is diverted out of play by Christian Eriksen.

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

Harry Kane is played into the left channel with time and space to pick out a cross but he hits the first man. If Mauricio Pochettino is to be annoyed by anything today it may well be Tottenham's final ball.

'Alli has brain of a 35-year-old'

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

Matthew Upson

Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

I've been so impressed with Dele Alli today, his movement is brilliant, he plays with the brain of a 35-year-old. Combined with his youth and enthusiasm, it makes him such a dangerous weapon for Tottenham.

Cristhian Stuani and debutant Adlene Guediora have been thrown on by Aitor Karanka but they are having little impact. Spurs being very professional in keeping the ball patiently and ensuring there can be no Boro backlash.

Marten de Roon tries to leap for a cross in the box but gets little on it.

Middlesbrough's struggles

Tottenham 1-0 Middlesbrough

Matthew Upson

Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

Where Middlesbrough have struggled today, is because they play so deep, they quickly run out of options when they have possession of the ball.
