David Penn: Reality check for Rodgers - now knows what his Scottish Prem opponents feel like when the available resources are so one-sided

  4. 'A harsh lesson'

    Celtic 0-5 PSG

Speaking to BT Sport, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said: "We could've been better in the first half. We were too passive.

"We started the second half and I know it's easier to play when you're 3-0 down, but we were much better.

"I was proud of the players in that second half as they continued to work.

"We spoke at half time and were much better in the second half.

"You have to give them credit, they have shown why they will be up there with a great chance of winning this competition.

"It was a harsh lesson and a tough lesson."

  5. Good times, bad times

    Celtic 0-5 PSG

    Richard Gordon

    BBC Sport Scotland

When you think of all the success Brendan Rodgers has brought to this club and the great invincible run, he has been in charge of the two worst results in Celtic's history - 7-0 away at Barcelona and 5-0 tonight.

  6. 'A lot of positive things'

    Chelsea 6-0 Qarabag

    Azpi goal

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte told BT Sport: “It was a good result. We started the Champions League in the right way. I saw great commitment, focus and concentration right from the start. It was a great performance from the players.

“A lot of positive things from us. Davide Zappacosta played very well and Eden Hazard is trying to find his best form.

“It’s very important to give players the opportunity like Andreas Christiansen. They must understand I trust them. I have 17-18 senior players. Every single player can have a chance to play.”

  7. 'United stuck at it'

    Manchester United 3-0 Basel

    Chris Waddle

Ex-Spurs and England winger on 5 live Sport

As for Jose's comments - I thought Manchester United stuck at it, they did enough to get over the line. They were comfortable winners. If they wanted to go up a gear, that's exactly what they did.

  8. 'We played Playstation football'

    Manchester United 3-0 Basel

    Jose mourinho

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho on BT Sport: "Three points are important at home. Until 2-0 we were very stable, we played with confidence.

"After 2-0 everything changed, we stopped playing seriously and stopped making right decisions. We could have put ourselves in trouble.

"We were playing fantasy football, Playstation football. I don't like it, flicks and tricks. We gambled and you have to respect your opponent. I don't know if goal difference will play a part. We lost position, our shape, we lost balls in easy situations. I didn't like it, the players relaxed too much.

"I keep saying the same about Fellaini. He is a player with special qualities and he gives me multiple areas of action. He is one of my most important players."

  9. 'PSG look special'

    Celtic 0-5 PSG

    Rory Smith

Chief Soccer Correspondent for The New York Times

    PSG Goal

I don't want to go too far but PSG are quite good at at football...

This is not an easy place to come but they made it look easy. City drew 3-3 here last season, Barca have lost here. It's one of the toughest atmospheres in Europe but PSG looked completely unfazed. They swept Celtic aside.

It does suggest that they are pretty special. We have to see the long-term psychological impact of what happened to them at the Nou Camp.

  10. 'They are a great team'

    Celtic 0-5 PSG

Speaking to BT Sport, Celtic captain Scott Brown said: "First half, we were disappointing, but second half we were a bit better.

"The second half we kept possession a lot more, the first half just wasn't us.

"We are disappointed with the result, but they are a great team.

"We'll pick ourselves up without a problem."

  11. 'A Messi masterclass'

    Barcelona 3-0 Juventus

    John Bennett

    BBC World Service

It's a message to those writing off Barcelona. A Messi masterclass.

Barcelona were said to have had a poor transfer window but two new signings played really well in Ousmane Dembele and Nelson Semedo.

  12. 'We are getting back to our best'

    Chelsea 6-0 Qarabag

    Cesc Fabregas

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas told BT Sport: "It's a good performance, a good result.

"You never know if goals [difference] will count at the end of the group stage. I think it's a good performance from everyone. We are getting back to our best.

"We rotated five players. We have nine games in 21 days. It's a difficult period. We weren't used to this last year as we weren't in the Champions League."

  13. 'We needed to bounce back'

    Manchester United 3-0 Basel

    Manchester United

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku on BT Sport: "After a slip up at Stoke we needed to bounce back with a win. The football wasn't great but we won. Defensively we are not conceding, it is a work in progress."

  14. No alarms and no surprises

    Roma 0-0 Atletico Madrid

    Andy West

    Spanish football writer

Pretty stunned to see the only goalless game in the Champions League tonight was Atletico Madrid away from home. Never saw that coming.

  15. Elsewhere in Europe round-up ...

CSKA Moscow came from behind to beat Benfica 2-1.

Goals from Robert Lewandowski, Thiago Alcantara and Joshua Kimmich helped Bayern Munich to a comfortable 3-0 home win to 10-man Anderlecht.

Sporting Lisbon saw off a late comeback from home-side Olympiakos to win 3-2.

Roma and Atletico Madrid played out a goalless draw at the Stadio Olimpico.

Luke: Nothing surprising tonight. United and Chelsea got token sides. Embarrassing they are not as convincing as Barca v Juve

Richard Fridl: maybe early days & better oponents will come, but I have a feeling English clubs mean business this year

  17. 'United always in control'

    Manchester United 3-0 Basel

    Chris Waddle

Ex-Spurs and England winger on 5 live Sport

For Manchester United it has been an easy victory, a far better side and always in the control. Basel tried, they were honest but they're just not in the same league.
