  1. Post update

    Man City 0-1 Birmingham

    Marc Skinner

His side may be ahead and looking comfortable for now, but Birmingham boss Marc Skinner is still barking orders from the sidelines.

Whatever he's said tactically speaking, it's certainly paid off up to this point - Man City really haven't been allowed to get into their stride.

The hosts have made their first change, with Claire Emslie replacing fellow Scot Jane Ross.

  2. Post update

    Man City 0-1 Birmingham

Has Man City goalie Ellie Roebuck learned her lesson?

It would seem not, as she once again takes a bad touch in her box and almost gets closed down by a Birmingham forward.

    Lightning almost struck twice.

  3. Post update

    Man City 0-1 Birmingham

    Man City

The hosts already look brighter since the restart, with more purpose and pace to their play.

From Man City's perspective, they probably think they can't possibly play as averagely as they did in that first half.

  4. Second half

    Man City 0-1 Birmingham

With Nick Cushing's words still no doubt ringing in their ears, Man City get this second half started.

Can the hosts possibly maintain their 100% WSL 1 record?

  5. Post update

    HT: Man City 0-1 Birmingham

The teams are slowly reemerging at the Academy Stadium in Manchester, and we'll be back under way shortly.

Should be expect changes from the hosts?

  8. Post update

    HT: Man City 0-1 Birmingham

Here's a reminder of the decisive moment of the first half.

Man City try to play out from the back but keeper Ellie Roebuck wants too much time and is closed down.

Skipper Steph Houghton could still have done better though, and Lucy Quinn's strike is right on the money.

    Man City 0-1 Birmingham

Lucy Quinn's floated effort separates the sides at the midway point.

Man City aren't used to being behind and Birmingham aren't used to leading against the league's big favourites.

Plenty to look forward to in the second half.

  10. Post update

    Man City 0-1 Birmingham

Two minutes added on at the end of the first half.

There are faint shouts from the stands for a Man City penalty following Hayley Ladd's challenge in the box - but they are rightly ignored.

  11. Houghton's set-piece threat

    Man City 0-1 Birmingham

    Jo Potter

England and Reading midfielder on BBC Red Button

I've been with her on England camps and Steph Houghton spends time to perfect her free-kicks.

She'll be disappointed with herself there, but she'll be looking to get more and find her range.

    Man City 0-1 Birmingham

The technique from Kiera Walsh, the save from Ann-Katrin Berger - wow!

The ball comes out from a Man City corner and Walsh lashes it first time on the half volley from all of 25 yards.

It seems destined for the top corner but German stopper Berger wonderfully gets across to tip it wide.

  13. CLOSE!

    Man City 0-1 Birmingham

That was speculative, but it so nearly came off for Birmingham's Jess Carter.

The 20-year-old flicks on a long-throw and it comes back to her - and her strike is not too far over and wide of the Man City goal.

  14. Post update

    Man City 0-1 Birmingham

I perhaps owe Man City's Scottish striker Jane Ross an apology for the gloves reference (see 12:46 GMT post).

England and Reading midfielder Jo Potter, speaking on the BBC Red Button coverage, says Ross has a circulation problem - which would explain the need for added warmth.

As you might be able to tell, there's not a whole lot happening on the pitch - Birmingham are being allowed to have the ball, and are doing things at their own pace.

  15. Post update

    Man City 0-1 Birmingham

Chelsea Ladies' fans will be rubbing their hands together here - they're the only other side in WSL 1 yet to drop any points.

Man City had won all three of their league games coming into this one, but haven't created too many openings thus far.

Melissa Lawley has looked a threat, but the hosts haven't got her on the ball enough.

  16. Will Man City switch tactics?

    Man City 0-1 Birmingham

    Jo Potter

England and Reading midfielder on BBC Red Button

It'll be interesting to see if Man City change the way they play at half time.

Will they adopt a higher press, to try and stop Birmingham at source?

  17. Post update

    Man City 0-1 Birmingham

Man City are winning a number of set pieces now, and that's when the likes of Jill Scott come into their element.

Birmingham are content to play on the counter, and why shouldn't they be?

  18. Post update

    Man City 0-1 Birmingham

    Nick Cushing

Man City manager Nick Cushing was all smiles before kick-off, but I doubt he's quite as chirpy right now.

His side are starting to stamp their authority on the match, but Birmingham look organised and now have something to hold onto.

Former Birmingham player Izzy Christiansen plays a role in a clever Man City corner routine, but it comes to nothing.

  19. WATCH: Quinn puts Birmingham ahead

    Man City 0-1 Birmingham

The hosts started brightly, but Birmingham grew slowly into the game and this "terrific strike" from Lucy Quinn has given Marc Skinner's side the lead.

I'm not sure Ellie Roebuck or Steph Houghton will be particularly happy with their role in the opening goal...

  20. CLOSE!

    Man City 0-1 Birmingham

The home side have come to terms with falling behind and create their first meaningful chance.

It's a clipped ball into the box and Jane Ross meets it with her head, but it powers just over.

Man City forward Ross is wearing gloves by the way - I know it's late October, but still?!
