United 'first class' says boss Wilder

Sheffield United 1-2 Bristol City

Chris Wilder

"We couldn't have done any more," Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder told Sky Sports.

"The reaction from last week was first class.

"The players have got to stick their chests out and give a performance and they gave a performance, it's exactly what we're about as a football club.

"All I can look at and measure is the performance in terms of the attitude and the way we played tonight and I thought it was first class.

"It's a tough one to take when you get done as late as that, but there it is."

Korey Smith has 'a bad one'

Fleck challenge

City boss Lee Johnson says Korey Smith could be out for some time after the challenge from John Fleck which saw the United player sent off and Smith go off injured:

"It looks like a bad one," he told Sky Sports.

"He's on crutches at the moment. He's got quite a gash and is struggling to put weight on it.

"Hopefully it's not a break, but he'll get x-rayed and scanned."

'It's a great win' - Lee Johnson

"It's a great win first and foremost and I'm delighted with the points," Bristol City manager Lee Johnson tells Sky Sports.

"Sheffield United were outstanding in the first half and we had to do something to change it quickly because they hit the woodwork three times.

"But we changed it at half time, we needed to get a bit of presence up there and get a platform, slowly we built into the game, we got a bit of fortune with the sending off and then completely controlled it.

Fleck red card challenge
Rex Features

What an entertaining game. United hit the post twice through Mark Duffy while Billy Sharp twice hit the bar, but it was City that got the late winner.

Having tailed to Jamie Paterson's opener late in the first half United levelled soon after the restart through Leon Clarke.

They were on top until John Fleck's red card, but it took until stoppage time for Flint to get the last-gasp goal that sees the three points head south.

Flint - 'it's a massive three points'

FT: Sheffield United 1-2 Bristol City

Aden Flint

Aden Flint has now scored six goals this season for Bristol City, including tonight's late winner.

"It’s great to get three points but we didn't perform as well as we hoped in the first half," he told Sky Sports.

"We weren't the best on the ball, despite going into the lead at half time, but it’s a massive three points for us today."

FULL-TIME

Sheffield United 1-2 Bristol City

Three huge points for Bristol City as they stay third in the Championship.

Aden Flint's stoppage time winner was enough as the Robins come away from 10-man United with all three points.

City are now two points off second-placed Cardiff, who play tomorrow.

Sheffield United 1-2 Bristol City

City clear the free kick easily - United have hit the woodwork four times tonight - can they get a late, late equaliser?

Sheffield United 1-2 Bristol City

In all of that goal excitement, we forgot to tell you that there'll be five additional minutes.

Blades have free kick on the left of the City box - all the big men are up.

Aden Flint steers in Bobby Reid's ball in at the far post with a first time side foot, as City's top scorer goes down under the challenge during the cross

The big defender finishes like a top-class striker to surely win this game for City?

Sheffield United 1-1 Bristol City

Bristol City force a corner in the dying embers of the game and the big men come forward.

United keeper Simon Moore misses it, but the Blades break all the way into the City box.

Bailey Wright puts in a perfectly-timed challenge on Samir Carruthers as the United sub bore down on goal.

Sheffield United 1-1 Bristol City

City sub Jonathan Leko does excellently down the left as he twists and turns, but his shot from distance doesn't have any bend and ends up well wide of the far post.

SUBSTITUTION

Sheffield United 1-1 Bristol City

United make their final change - Samir Carruthers coming on for Chris Basham.

Despite having 10 men Chris Wilder is still gunning for a late winner it seems.

Sheffield United 1-1 Bristol City

Bobby Reid might be City's top scorer, but he's had a quiet evening so far.

Can the 11-goal man light up these final few minutes?

Sheffield United 1-1 Bristol City

Ed Hadwin

BBC Radio Bristol at Bramall Lane

An away draw is certainly no disaster here for Bristol City but - against 10 men - there is more on offer here if they can string the right move together.

SUBSTITUTION

Sheffield United 1-1 Bristol City

Sheffield United replace Billy Sharp with Clayton Donaldson. A forward on for a forward - Chris Wilder still wants to win this...

SUBSTITUTION

Sheffield United 1-1 Bristol City

Sheffield United take Mark Duffy off for the highly-rated David Brooks.

Bristol City replace Marlon Pack with Jonathan Leko.

Sheffield United 1-1 Bristol City

Jamie Paterson is really getting some joy down the left now for City. He's wound his way down the line again and shot wide.

Ten-man United need to be aware of it.

Sheffield United 1-1 Bristol City

Josh Brownhill finds himself unmarked at the back post after a great bit of work from Paterson down the left, but a Enda Stevens gets in the way and blocks well.

Excellent chance goes begging for City.

Sheffield United 1-1 Bristol City

George Baldock has a shot blocked by City defender Nathan Baker. Both sides are trying hard for all three points here.

Sheffield United 1-1 Bristol City

Richard Stearman gives the ball away at the back and United almost pay.

Marlon Pack fires in a shot from the edge of the box, it takes a deflection and is saved by well by a wrong-footed Moore.

Matty Taylor gets to the rebound but Stearman does well to block the attempt.

Sheffield United 1-1 Bristol City

So how will that red card for Sheffield United impact on this game as we head towards the final quarter of this match?

With both sides six points behind second place going into tonight's match if either side can go on and win it could be massive for them - although Wolves and Cardiff fans are no doubt hoping for a draw!

Sheffield United 1-1 Bristol City

Leon Clarke stings the hands of Frank Fielding with a powerful effort from the edge of the box after Billy Sharp's lay-off.

United aren't going to let the man disadvantage affect them if they can help it.

SUBSTITUTION

Sheffield United 1-1 Bristol City

Matty Taylor comes on for Korey Smith, who is helped off the field by the Bristol City medical staff following that challenge by Fleck.

RED CARD

Sheffield United 1-1 Bristol City

John Fleck
Rex Features

John Fleck is off. The Sheffield United midfielder goes in two-footed above the ball and into the leg of Korey Smith. He can't really have any complaints there, it looked quite nasty.

YELLOW CARD

Sheffield United 1-1 Bristol City

Bristol City substitute Milan Djuric sticks his arm into the face of United's Jack O'Connell and the big striker goes into the book.

HITS THE WOODWORK

Sheffield United 1-1 Bristol City

Mark Duffy
Rex Features

Mark Duffy hits the post from the edge of the box - the second time he's done that tonight for the Blades.

On the rebound Billy Sharp blasts an effort straight into the face of Aden Flint - how the City defender is on his feet I don't know.

Sheffield United 1-1 Bristol City

Leon Clarke peels away from his marker at the back post as the cross comes in from the left, but he heads it down into the ground and up into Fielding's arms.

Not sure this half-time substitution by Bristol City boss Lee Johnson has had the desired effect so far.....

Sheffield United 1-1 Bristol City

Leon Clarke
Rex Features

Well the Blades are starting to take it to City now. Great chance for a second as Basham plays a ball into the area, but the visitors deal with it.

GOAL Sheffield United 1-1 Bristol City

Leon Clarke

Leon Clarke almost breaks the net as United equalise.

The striker picks the ball up on the right after a lovely ball from midfield. He cuts inside, fronts up with Baker in the box and pulverises it past Frank Fielding. There was no way he was stopping that.

SUBSTITUTION

Sheffield United 0-1 Bristol City

Bristol City are making a change at the start of this second half. Milan Djuric is on for Niclas Eliasson and City look like they'll move to a 4-4-2.

Sheffield United 0-1 Bristol City

Right then, who's up for a bit more action?

The second half is just moments away, and if it starts the same way as that first half ended, we'll be in for a cracker.....

RECAP: Wolves' Monday derby joy

HT: Sheffield United 0-1 Bristol City

Leo Bonatini
Rex Features

Last weekend's Championship action concluded with the leaders Wolves re-opening their 10-point gap on tonight's two sides on Monday night, with a 1-0 win at local rivals Birmingham City.

Leo Bonatini got the only goal early on in a game that Nuno Espirito Santo's side should have won more comfortably.

The Blues rarely troubled the Wolves defence - they failed to get a single shot on target in the entire game - and remain in the relegation places.

While they take a breather at Bramall Lane, here's some other football news for you.

Eight Premier League games will be played in a new 19:45 slot on Saturdays under the terms of a new broadcast package from the 2019-20 season.

Broadcasters will bid for rights to show 200 live matches, more than 50% of the league's 380 games and an increase on the current deal's 168.

The new package will also allow successful bidders to broadcast rounds of midweek matches in their entirety.

It will replace the existing record £5.136bn TV deal struck in 2015.

HALF-TIME

Sheffield United 0-1 Bristol City

Well what an exciting end to that first half.

United hit the woodwork three times, but it's Jamie Paterson's excellent strike just before the break - and against the run of play - that gives the visitors the lead.

YELLOW CARD

Sheffield United 0-1 Bristol City

In the build-up to the goal United's Enda Stevens barges Smith over. The referee let play go on and the advantage certainly worked for City. But Stevens is booked after the goal.

Sheffield United 0-1 Bristol City

Ed Hadwin

BBC Radio Bristol commentator at Bramall Lane

What a strike! He couldn't have caught it any more sweetly.

I'm not entirely sure City deserve it, but their fans won't care. They're enjoying themselves.
