  1. Sorry, we're Prest-on for time

So, after a huge win for Preston, a local-bragging-rights-earning win for Millwall and a crazy 4-3 win for Morecambe, tonight's live football has come to an end.

We're out of time. Thanks for your company.

It's been a memorable 2017 for Cardiff City, but three losses in a row means it'll go down as a Christmas to forget for Neil Warnock's men.

Tomorrow, Derby, Bristol City and Wolves will look to take advantage of the Bluebirds' home defeat.

We'll see you then. Good night.

  2. Coming up this weekend

There are 10 Championship matches to come tomorrow, including second-placed Bristol City v leaders Wolves from 17:30 GMT.

Before that potentially cracking game, there are some fascinating encounters from 15:00, including Tony Pulis' Middlesbrough against Aston Villa. Those two sides slipped below Preston in the table tonight.

We'll also have a busy programme of League One and League Two action as well. Don't miss it.

  3. League One leaders held at home

Elsewhere in the English Football League tonight, League One table-toppers Wigan Athletic were held to a goalless draw by Charlton Athletic at home.

Doncaster Rovers scored two first-half goals to see off Rochdale and keep in touch with the play-off places.

And, in League Two, Kevin Ellison scored a dramatic injury-time winner as Morecambe edged a 4-3 thriller against Yeovil.

The Glovers had led 2-0 after 17 minutes and then 3-2 with six minutes remaining.

FT: Cardiff 0-1 Preston, Millwall 1-0 QPR

Dafydd Laugharne: Cardiff need some central midfielders, cannot rely on the wide counter attack all season! Also on a side note... What a poor game of football that was

Mark Wilkins: Absolutely delighted that Morrison found the back of the net for the Lions, he's deserved something for his efforts this season!

  5. 'From the start of the season we had belief'

    FT: Cardiff 0-1 Preston

    Cardiff v Preston
Quote Message: You've got to sort of dig in in these games. We know they [Cardiff] are going to be direct. We had a game plan and it worked. From the start of the season, we had belief. Everyone in the squad knows we've got a good chance this year. from Ben Pearson Preston midfielder on Sky Sports

  6. FT: Cardiff 0-1 Preston

That's nine games without loss for Preston, who have won four of their past six games now.

A fine festive period for the Lancashire club.

  7. 'We work hard for each other'

    FT: Cardiff 0-1 Preston

Quote Message: We know it's a tough period over Christmas. I'm thankful that I was able to come back in today and I'm feeling fresh. We're a team that works hard for each other, we know we're solid defensively and thankfully we got the win. from Tom Clarke Preston goalscorer on Sky Sports

  8. FT: Cardiff 0-1 Preston

Preston boss Alex Neil points towards their travelling fans and tell his players to go and thank them.

There are a few hundred delighted North Ends fans in that corner.

    Cardiff 0-1 Preston

    Cardiff v Preston

Well, well, well. Three straight defeats for Cardiff.

Preston go up to seventh, one point off the top six.

    Cardiff 0-1 Preston

They're in to the final 30 seconds now... Chris Maxwell produces a good save at his near post to deny Rhys Healey.

  11. YELLOW CARD (Cardiff & Preston)

    Cardiff 0-1 Preston

Cardiff's Callum Paterson is booked, along with Jordan Hugill. Paterson thought Hugill was play-acting.

All this is doing though is winding down the clock.

  12. Post update

    Cardiff 0-1 Preston

Cardiff's fans feel Jordan Hugill is time-wasting, deep in the hosts' half.

The Bluebirds have around 90 seconds left to find a leveller, on a frustrating night for them.

    Millwall 1-0 QPR

It's all over. Millwall get the bragging rights over London rivals QPR - and former manager Ian Holloway.

Steve Morison's first goal of the season ensures a first win over the R's since 2011.

    Steve Morison
  14. Post update

    Cardiff 0-1 Preston

Suddenly Cardiff are throwing men forward, as we move in to five minutes of stoppage time.

The hosts are set to miss out on the chance to move back in to the automatic promotion spaces as things stand.

There's still time for them to salvage something, but they haven't looked like scoring all night to be honest.

  15. More goals in League Two!

    Morecambe 3-3 Yeovil

Oh my word, what a game we've had in League Two!

Having conceded twice in the second half to throw away a 2-0 lead, Omar Sowunmi's header in the 84th minute looks to have won it for Yeovil...

... Only for Callum Lang to make it 3-3 straight from the restart. Bonkers!

  16. GOAL: Cardiff 0-1 Preston

    Tom Clarke (90 mins)

It's there! From the corner, after an initial save, Preston captain Tom Clarke is there to pounce on the rebound and he heads in the winner from three yards!

Cardiff are staring at a third straight defeat!

    Tom Clarke
  17. Post update

    Cardiff 0-0 Preston

Preston have been the better side. They've won another corner. Can they steal it?

  18. CLOSE!

    Millwall 1-0 QPR

Matt Smith rises high and wins a header, but the big QPR striker guides it a yard wide.

Is that their last opportunity gone?

  19. Post update

    Cardiff 0-0 Preston

Both of these sides' defensive records are among the top five in the Championship, so perhaps a stalement wasn't ever too unlikely.

Are we about to see a late twist? There are just over two minutes left of normal time.

    Cardiff 0-0 Preston

    Neil Warnock

Cardiff bring on Omar Bogle to replace Kenneth Zohore up front, while Preston introduce left-back Calum Woods in place of Greg Cunningham.
