Villa celebrate

Well, well. What a night of drama.

We'll be back later this week after all the twists and turns of the January transfer window are done with more live EFL action for you.

Bolton v Bristol City on Friday night in the Championship will be our next offering.

Until then, thanks for being with us...

'They really penned us in at times'

FT: Sheffield United 0-1 Aston Villa

It was a typical Robert Snodgrass goal. It was a lot better in the second half, but credit to Sheffield United, they really penned us in at times. You've got to believe there's always a goal in it.

How it stands

So what have those Championship results done to the league table this evening?

Here's a look at the top six and the bottom six....

Champ top
.

Villa's fifth successive victory closes the gap on Derby in second to a point.

Their win at Sheffield United means Fulham stay in the play-off places.

Champ bottom
.

Potentially damaging defeats for both Burton and Sunderland tonight.

Fair to say, pretty tight at the bottom now for all of those clubs.

'It was a decent game'

FT: Sheffield United 0-1 Aston Villa

I think we've played well, well enough to get a result, but we're talking top-end Championship football here. Their goalkeeper has made more saves than our goalkeeper and if those go in it might be a different story. It was a decent game of football, both teams went at it.

Wycombe hold on for victory

League One & League Two full-time scores

Danny Graham

Blackburn are back up to second in League One as two goals from Danny Graham and one from Bradley Dack earn them victory over Walsall.

Wycombe are also up to second place, albeit in the division below, as they held on to beat leaders Luton.

Coventry followed up their victory over MK Dons in the FA Cup fourth round by beating Cambridge, while there were also wins for Swindon, Lincoln and Yeovil.

League One:

  • Blackburn Rovers 3-1 Walsall

League Two:

  • Coventry City 3-1 Cambridge United
  • Lincoln City 3-1 Newport County
  • Luton Town 2-3 Wycombe Wanderers
  • Stevenage 0-1 Swindon Town
  • Yeovil Town 3-0 Grimsby Town

The full-time headlines

Robert Snodgrass
Rex Features
  • Robert Snodgrass scores a 90th-minute winner as Aston Villa beat fellow promotion hopefuls Sheffield United.
  • Villa close the gap on second-placed Derby County, who are held to a goalless draw at Millwall.
  • Birmingham City score three for the first time since October 2016 as they secure a precious victory over relegation rivals Sunderland.
  • Reading win 3-1 at Burton to ease the pressure on boss Jaap Stam, while Preston comfortably beat Nottingham Forest despite being without Jordan Hugill.
  • The games at Hull City and Middlesbrough both end goalless.

Wycombe endure anxious wait

League Two latest

Wondering where those full-time scores in League Two are?

Well, we're still waiting for one result, as Luton and Wycombe are playing out nine minutes' of added time at the end of the second half.

Wanderers still have about four minutes left to hold onto their 3-2 lead.

FULL-TIME

Hull City 0-0 Leeds United

No way through for Hull City and Leeds United, who share a goalless draw.

'It was a team performance'

FT: Sheffield United 0-1 Aston Villa

Snodgrass

It was a very tough game. I think Sheffield United are where they are for a reason - they're a very good side. I'm delighted I got the goal, but I'm delighted for the boys because they worked so hard. As a winger you need to try to score goals and get assists, but as I say it's been a team performance.

Robert SnodgrassAston Villa goalscorer on Sky Sports

FULL-TIME

Birmingham City 3-1 Sunderland

A sorry night for Sunderland but a big three points for Birmingham in the battle of the two sides who started the night inside the bottom three.

Blues were in control for most of it before Sunderland bagged a late consolation.

INJURY TIME

Hull City 0-0 Leeds United

We're into five minutes of time added on in the game between Hull and Leeds. A late goal, anyone?

FULL-TIME

Burton Albion 1-3 Reading

Jaap Stam will be a very relieved man to have got through this one with the three points.

Reading win for the first league match in nine while Burton remain stuck at the bottom of the pile.

FULL-TIME

Millwall 0-0 Derby County

No goals in this one, but no shortage of chances or effort from both sides.

Derby had a late effort ruled out for offside from Ikechi Anya while Scott Carson denied Millwall on more than one occasion.

INJURY TIME

Millwall 0-0 Derby County

Three minutes being added on at the end of the 90 in south London.

FULL-TIME

Nottingham Forest 0-3 Preston

They were without star striker Jordan Hugill, but Preston scored three times to win convincingly at Nottingham Forest.

FULL-TIME

Sheffield United 0-1 Aston Villa

No late equaliser for the Blades and Aston Villa leave it late to claim a fifth win in a row and maintain their march towards the automatic promotion places.

Robert Snodgrass wins in with a cracker for Steve Bruce's men.

INJURY TIME

Birmingham City 3-1 Sunderland

Five additional minutes at St Andrew's. Sunderland still need a miracle to steal a point.

Birmingham v Sunderland
Empics

FULL-TIME

Middlesbrough 0-0 Sheffield Wednesday

It's all over at the Riverside and it's goalless.

INJURY TIME

Sheffield United 0-1 Aston Villa

Four minutes being added on at Bramall Lane. Can Sheffield United grab a late leveller?

Sheffield United 0-1 Aston Villa

Robert Snodgrass (90 mins)

My word. Late drama at Bramall Lane!

Aston Villa look to have snatched the win after withstanding an absolute barrage from Sheffield United.

Robert Snodgrass pops up in the last minute of normal time with a stunning left-footed curling effort from the edge of the box.

Gutting for the Blades.

Millwall 0-0 Derby County

Derby denied a goal as we approach full-time.

Ikechi Anya thought he had put them ahead, but the Scotland international has his effort ruled out for offside.

Millwall v Derby
Rex Features

Middlesbrough 0-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Tony Pulis' Middlesbrough are piling forward at the Riverside, but Daniel Ayala can only head a fantastic chance over the crossbar.

Birmingham City 3-1 Sunderland

Bryan Oviedo (83 mins)

Well, a late rally from Sunderland maybe?

Bryan Oviedo arrives late at the back post to volley in George Honeyman's floated cross. A consolation or the start of a big fightback?

Burton Albion 1-3 Reading

Looking comfortable for Reading as the last 10 minutes tick round at the Pirelli Stadium

A first win in nine league games looks on its way for the Royals courtesy of that Jon Dadi Bodvarsson brace. But, for Burton it seems they'll remain stuck on the foot of the table.

Nottingham Forest 0-3 Preston

Daniel Johnson (pen, 83 mins)

Billy Bodin scored Preston's first goal of the night, and he's influential again here, winning a penalty for his side as he is pushed inside the box.

Daniel Johnson steps up to take the spot-kick and smashes the ball past Jordan Smith.

Job done.

Millwall 0-0 Derby County

Jed Wallace goes close to putting Millwall ahead but Scott Carson saves his shot with his legs to keep this one goalless.

Surely someone has to find a way through before full-time at the New Den?

Sheffield United 0-0 Aston Villa

John Fleck forces a smart save out of Aston Villa keeper Sam Johnstone with a low drilled effort.

Approaching the last 10 minutes at Bramall Lane and still no way through for either of these promotion contenders.

Millwall 0-0 Derby County

Two changes up top for Derby as Sam Winnall and Cameron Jerome replace Dave Nugent and Matej Vydra.

But no change in fortune in front of goal as yet for the second-placed side in the Championship.

Jerome does try his luck with a shot, but Jordan Archer gathers that in the Millwall goal. Just under 15 minutes left.

Birmingham City 3-0 Sunderland

Chris Coleman has thrown on new signing Kazenga LuaLua for Sunderland, but it's doing nothing to change their fortunes so far.

Just over 15 minutes still to play at St Andrew's and this has been a night to forget for those of a Black Cats persuasion.

Glovers easing to victory

League Two latest

No surprises about these goals, as Yeovil extend their lead against nine-man Grimsby.

Rhys Browne fires in his first goal since November to make the score 2-0, before Jake Gray adds a third.

Wycombe striker Nathan Tyson has increased his side's advantage over leaders Luton to 3-1, while Ollie Palmer has put Lincoln 3-1 up against Newport.

Burton Albion 1-3 Reading

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson (68 mins)

And that may well be that in this one at the Pirelli Stadium.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson nets his second goal of the evening and gives Reading a two-goal cushion.

Mo Barrow was the man to find him at the near post and the Icelander tucked it home past Stephen Bywater from close range.

Sheffield United 0-0 Aston Villa

Sheff Utd v Aston Villa
Rex Features

And it's still goalless at Bramall Lane despite plenty of hustle and bustle from both sides.

Richard Stearman comes to the Blades' rescue twice as first he blocks a Conor Hourihane shot and then heads away danger inside his own area.

Middlesbrough 0-0 Sheffield Wednesday

A few goals are flying in around the Championship at last - and we've almost had one at the Riverside too.

It's Middlesbrough with the opportunity, but Ben Gibson's downward header comes back off the post and bounces away.

Grimsby down to nine

League Two latest

If your side is down by a goal, have been down to 10 men since the sixth minute, and you're already on a yellow card, what's the last thing you should do?

Unfortunately for Grimsby, Karleigh Osborne has not got his thinking cap on tonight, as he's shown a second yellow card for a challenge in the centre of the pitch.

Yeovil, 1-0 up, are cruising to victory now.

Millwall 0-0 Derby County

I'd have put down a decent amount of change on there being some goals in this one, but not to be so far as we reach the hour mark.

Firstly, Tom Huddlestone fires over the Millwall crossbar and then Curtis Davies is back just in time in his own area to intercept a chance for the hosts as Lee Gregory sized up a chance to shoot.

Millwall v Derby
Rex Features

Nottingham Forest 0-2 Preston

Tom Barkhuizen (60 mins)

No Jordan Hugill? No problem.

Preston are making light of their star striker's absence, Tom Barkhuizen sending a powerful header home from a corner to double the visitors' lead at Nottingham Forest.

Burton Albion 1-2 Reading

Chris Gunter (57 mins)

Reading back ahead at Burton and Chris Gunter is the man to find the back of the net.

The Wales international fires a shot in from outside the penalty area from the corner and that's just what an under-pressure Jaap Stam would've wanted.

Hull City 0-0 Leeds United

Hull City have just missed as good a chance as they could ever wish to create to go in front.

Nouha Dicko is the guilty party, somehow heading over the bar from less than a yard out and with the goal at his mercy.

That's why Hull have scored in only one of their past seven games.

Birmingham City 3-0 Sunderland

Sam Gallagher (55 mins)

Sunderland are plummeting to the foot of the Championship as things stand.

Sam Gallagher puts Birmingham in complete control at St Andrew's with their third goal and Sunderland look all at sea.

Absolute calamity in their penalty area as David Davis got on the long ball, took it away from Robin Ruiter in the Sunderland goal and squared for Gallagher to finish into the open goal.

Birmingham v Sunderland
Rex Features

Burton Albion 1-1 Reading

Lucas Akins (pen 51 mins)

There's a goal in the Championship and what a big one it could be for Burton.

Lucas Akins converts a penalty after Dave Edwards committed the foul in the Reading area on Martin Samuelson.
