  1. Post update

And with that we are done for the day.

A great day for Pep Guardiola and Chris Hughton but plenty to ponder for Arsene Wenger and Antonio Conte.

    Until next time, cheerio!

  2. 'We are close'

    Man City 1-0 Chelsea

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to Sky Sports: "Chelsea are still champions. They played with 10 players behind the ball but we didn't concede one chance. We created enough to win the game, score more goals. Our high pressing was outstanding so we are so happy because it's another step forward to be champions. We have 76 points.

"We had to be careful against the counter attacks, Hazard, Willian and Pedro are all quick players but we controlled it and we were quick with the ball, nobody was making extra passes or extra touches. It's not easy when they defend with nine players in their box.

"We are close but it is not already done. It's in our hands. Now we start again, we have to try to stay calm. We have Basel and Stoke City and we will see after Stoke what our position is and how many points we need from the games left to be champions."

JP: I love Antonio Conte, but if he is going to leave/be sacked in the summer then we need to get Carlo Ancelotti back in before someone else grabs him.

Anon: Half of Chelsea's problem this season whether they like it or not are from the sale of Diego Costa.

Arron: Antonio Conte is trying to get sacked. Points scoring against the board’s ‘tight’ transfer policy doesn’t work when they see £80m of strike talent sat on the bench. Poor tactics and too slow to change. Again.

  4. 'It's not good enough'

    Man City 1-0 Chelsea

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte speaking to Sky Sports:

"In this moment it is very difficult to play against Manchester City. They are a really strong team with fantastic quality. We tried. It's a pity for the goal we conceded after 30 seconds of the second half, that changed the game. My tactics were to not concede space between the lines, if you do that you risk losing by many goals.

"They have a fantastic mentality when they lose the ball, they want to run and press and are a really strong team."

    Were Chelsea adventurous enough?

"Do you think this? If you give City space behind us the game can finish not 1-0. It's not good enough but this is the truth, I don't think this is because of the tactics.

"It's not simple to play against Man City. They have great intensity of every moment of the game we tried to do this and defend well but we conceded a goal after 30 seconds of the second half and it's very difficult to come back from that but don't forget we were missing N'Golo Kante who is a crucial player for our balance."

  5. 'A bad loss would not be good for the players'

    Man City 1-0 Chelsea

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, speaking to BBC Sport: "The effort was an important effort by the players but despite this we conceded a goal after 30 seconds in the second half and after that it was difficult to come back.

"We played against a team with fantastic quality. They have a great mentality and we must give the best compliment for Manchester City.

"When you play against City you have to try not to concede space between the lines and space on the pitch because they are incredible on the ball. If we did not concede a goal after 30 seconds maybe it could have been more simple.

Tactics? "We tried to have patience. When you are 1-0 down you can always have the possibility to score. When you concede the space to Manchester City there is the risk for the game to finish 3 or 4-0.

"When you play against a team that has shown to be stronger than you for a lot of the season - because 25 points is a big difference - you have to think with your brain and not your head because otherwise you finish with a bad loss and that's not good for the players."

Peter: It is very obvious that Conte's heart is no longer in @CFC. Hope he won't leave us where he met us

Eoin Trainer: does no one else think Losing Steve Holland in the summer was a big blow to Conte?

  7. 'Another step closer'

    Man City 1-0 Chelsea

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC Sport: "It was so important, a win today is another step closer. We need four victories to be champions, it is in our hands and if our behavior is like today we will be champions.

"Against a strong team like Chelsea, who are still the champions, and beat them in the way we did today, that is why it is so good.

"I never judge what the other guy does. Who can forget the same manager and almost same players were champions last year.

"Our performance today was so good in terms of control and attacking at the right moment. Everybody was good."

Luke: I wonder if the press with be as vicious in attacking Antonio Conte with the financial backing behind his team as they were with Arsene Wenger. This was by far a worse performance than any of the Arsenal ones against City.

Kev: Last seasons windows have been used to reduce the average age of the squad And City didnt pay £200m for Lukaku and Pogba. It's not how much, it's who it's on that counts

  9. 'Chelsea haven’t replaced Diego Costa'

    Man City 1-0 Chelsea

    Stephen Warnock

Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Chelsea haven’t replaced Diego Costa at all. With Costa today, it would’ve been a completely different game against this Manchester City team.

  10. Pass masters

    Man City 1-0 Chelsea

Manchester City today completed 902 passes - more than any other team has managed in a single Premier League game since 2003-04 (when Opta started recording the stat).

Alex: In the recent past title winning teams would often spend little in the summer, only buying to replace e.g. Man Utd only bought De Gea in 2011. Man City don't do this, will spend most again, so logically the gap can only stretch.

Ed: It's not only Jurgen Klopp that can beat Man City. Paul Cook can too? Liverpool fans get off your high horse.

  12. Post update

    Man City 1-0 Chelsea

Manchester City are 18 points clear at the top of the table and need just four wins from their nine remaining games to seal the Premier League title.

Pep Guardiola is smiling from ear-to-ear. He's delighted with that win and probably a little surprised how comfortable Chelsea made it for his side.

    Pep Guardiola

    Man City 1-0 Chelsea

All over as Manchester City take a very comfortable step towards the title.

Nigel: Morata on after 89 minutes. And hazard of all people comes off. It's a joke, almost as if Antonio Conte has played this for goal difference. Fed up.

Lewis: Say what you want about Jose Mourinho playing defensive but you would never see him start against Man City with Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez on the bench.

  16. Post update

    Man City 1-0 Chelsea

A couple of Chelsea fans have taken off their shirts and have turned their back on the pitch to start chanting to their fellow supporters - looks like they are making their own entertainment.

Meanwhile, a final change for Manchester City as Phil Foden replaces David Silva.

Martin: When you're spending the entire game trying to break through two solid walls of dark blue shirts, I don't think it's Man City who are boring!

Anon: I find it very hard to believe that this is the most exciting league in the world based on this game. I thought this league was all about excitement, passion and goals.

Gideon: Can't wait for Man City to meet Liverpool in the CL. Seems to me like only Jurgen Klopp can beat Man City.

  18. Post update

    Man City 1-0 Chelsea

Into the first of four minutes added on at the end of normal time and Chelsea are definitely being a bit more adventurous. They've got three players in the box for a cross but Manchester City clear.

    Man City 1-0 Chelsea

And now here's the Alvaro Morata change that was teased earlier.

He replaces Eden Hazard with a minute plus stoppage time to make an impact.

  20. Quick - and slow

    Man City 1-0 Chelsea

    Simon Stone

BBC Sport at the Etihad Stadium

Alvaro Morata was ready to come on, then stepped away from the touchline, put his coat on and is now warming up by the dug-out.

In that time, Gabriel Jesus was summoned from his own warm-up by the corner flag, got his training gear off and raced on the pitch to replace Sergio Aguero.
