  1. 'We have no time to waste'

    Man Utd 2-1 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Match of the Day: "It was 2-0 down of course - not a good idea against Manchester United. Long balls to Lukaku and second situations. Lukaku is one of the best strikers in the world, we needed to be around to pick up the ball, we were not and Rashford could use the situation twice.

"We had opportunities to shoot from distance but we were not good enough, we did not score and had to chase the game in the second half. We did that, scored one and I think everyone agrees it was a penalty but that doesn't help us now.

"It is very important [we bounce back] we have no time to waste.

"We chased the game in the second half and caused them problems but this is a result game and they have the result and we don't."

  2. Post update

Paul Pogba also interrupted Jurgen Klopp's BBC interview to shake hands with the German.

  3. Post update

    Man Utd 2-1 Liverpool

    Manchester United

Jose Mourinho on Paul Pogba: "He was injured in the last minute of the last training session before the game. Incredible. If I finished the training session one minute before he would have been OK.

"Marcus Rashford and McTominay - one scored two goals, special for a kid who feels the shirt in a special way because he was born here.

"McTominay played with such class and maturity. He really impressed me because the crowd can push with their hearts and even when they were pushing him to do the wrong thing, he did the right thing."

PJ: Gotta give credit to Mourinho as well! His tactics today took away Liverpool's pressing style of play.

Anon: Why do people try to over complicate football, saying other teams don’t have plan B,C etc. Football is about scoring and defending simple. So plan A is to just do both very well.

  5. 'The human brain is a complex thing'

    Man Utd 2-1 Liverpool

    Manchester United

United boss Jose Mourinho, speaking to Match of the Day: "We were quite aggressive in the first half, we wanted to have control of the game, spaces for transition and try to exploit - not weaknesses - but points where the opponent is not so good.

"The second half it was not our intention to be as defensive as we were. Liverpool pushed us back but I don't remember the chances that need David de Gea to make the goal safe. I don't remember a dangerous situation to our goal. It was control by them having the ball and control by us without the ball. I think we deserved the three points."

Good preparation for Champions League? "The three games in the league, the Champions League and the FA Cup are independent events, with no relation to the next match. The human brain is a complex thing. The defeat leaves a bit of damage and victory makes happiness even if you are fatigued.

"The best thing was to win this match."

  6. Post update

Paul Pogba invades Jose Mourinho's BBC interview to shake his hand in delight. Jose says that he was injured in the very last minute of Friday's training.

Anon: Admittedly it's a disappointing defeat but I think Klopp and Liverpool deserve a lot of credit because a lot of Liverpool sides of recent times would have folded having gone 2-0 down. This team really isn't far off being the real deal.

Herbert: If only Klopp had packed the bus and earned a point. Jose has schooled him twice this season. Not pretty but effective

  8. 'In a bad position'

    Man Utd 2-1 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk: "We put ourselves in not a good position. I should have done better for the second one. I didn't expect it. It was a deflection as well, so a bit unlucky as well.

"They gave us time, sat back - even at home - and hope for the best on the counter and that is what they did especially in the second half but we had already put ourselves in a bad position.

"We need to analyse what we did in the first half."

    Mark: Klopp has a great plan A but no plan B - Mourinho has a plan A B C & D that's how you win things!

Leon: We don’t have a style of play but we are tactical with Jose, the football is not great at times but Liverpool is predictable. Just plan A no plan B. Liverpool will always play good football under Klopp but will never win the league!

  10. 'I don't care if people don't think we deserved it'

    Man Utd 2-1 Liverpool

    Manchester United

    Jose MOurinho

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, speaking to Sky Sports: "We can split the halves - United first half and Liverpool second but in my opinion our first half was a half with goals and danger.

"In the second half - in my opinion, and probably the people in the studio have a different opinion - was Liverpool controlling with the ball and United controlling without the ball.

"Our team was always in control. Even in set pieces, corners, dangerous situations we were in control so I think we deserved it.

"Against Liverpool if you play bad when you have the ball you can be in trouble. In the second half it was not our intention - I cannot say this was the plan. Liverpool pushed us into defensive situation but we kept control. It was a complete performance by us with two different halves.

"If people don't think we deserved it, I don't care.

"I am a bit tired, we have a match on Tuesday. I don't care what people say. The boys are happy, I'm happy."

  11. Post update

    Man Utd 2-1 Liverpool

"I am tired, I have a match on Tuesday, and I don't care what people say," says Jose Mourinho, with full pantomime villain style relish.

  12. 'You can control the game without the ball'

    Man Utd 2-1 Liverpool

Jose Mourinho says that Liverpool controlled the game by having the ball, but his side controlled the game without having the ball. He points out a lack of Liverpool chances, and he's probably spot on isn't he?

"You can be in control without having the ball, you can be in trouble when you have the ball," he says.

  13. 'United cement top-four spot'

    Man Utd 2-1 Liverpool

    Danny Mills

Former England defender on Final Score

Mourinho's done it again, they've now cemented their place in the top four. They've got Sevilla in the week so they can now focus on the Champions League and FA Cup.

  14. 'Rashford gamble gets reward'

    Man Utd 2-1 Liverpool

    Dion Dublin

Ex-Aston Villa striker on Final Score

When United didn't have the ball they retreated. When they did have the ball they were positive. With Rashford in the side, they can go over the top. If Rashford and Sanchez can gamble off Lukaku and his flick-ons, then they've got a chance. They did, and they got the goals.

  15. 'A clear penalty'

    Man Utd 2-1 Liverpool

    Liverpool

    Sadio mane

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Sky Sports: "We have to defend these situations better. You can always lose a header or a challenge with Romelu Lukaku of course but there is a gap in behind and we need to close that.

"The two goals made the game not easy, we had a lot of OK moments, two good moments in the first half where we could finish better. We didn't score before half time and then in the second half we chased the game. It is really difficult to do against a team like Manchester United.

"It was a clear penalty with Fellaini on Mane, in situations like this you need the right decision.

"It is all about the result and we lost."

  16. Post update

Jurgen Klopp also says that his side should have had a penalty when Sadio Mane was challenged by Marouane Fellaini and they deserved at least a pont.

  17. 'The next few weeks are massive'

    Man Utd 2-1 Liverpool

    Manchester United

Manchester United full-back Ashley Young, speaking to Match of the Day: "The next couple of weeks are massive for us. We just want to keep the momentum going and see where it take us.

"This is a great game to win and we are delighted to have done that today."

  18. Post update

"You can always lose a header with Lukaku," says an animated Jurgen Klopp as he begins his post-match interviews.

    He looks frustrated. Understandably.

    Full reaction to come.

  19. 'We want to finish as high as we can'

    Man Utd 2-1 Liverpool

    Manchester United

Jesse Lingard, speaking to Sky Sports: "Marcus Rashford is a player with very big potential. He is at a big club and they are nurturing him well.

"There is always going to be rivalry there. We took the three points today and that is the most important thing.

"We have a bit of a cushion now, we have Champions League next week but we want to finish as high as we can in the league."
