Three goals, three penalties for the Aston Villa man.

  3. VAR the major talking point... Again

    #bbcworldcup or 81111 on text

VB: If the point of VAR is to correct major errors, Australia got the softest penalty in footballing history. Hardly conclusive proof of a massive blunder. Jeepers. Denmark should feel properly aggrieved.

Andrew: Clearly NOT a penalty! It is too close to his arm and it is not intentional and his arm is not in an unnatural position. How can anyone see this and then give a Penalty? VAR is not the problem it's the person that is looking at it.

  4. Post-match stats

    Denmark 1-1 Australia

    • This was the fourth time that Denmark and Australia have met each other, but the first time they have drawn (two wins for Denmark, one for Australia).
    • Australia have failed to win any of their last five World Cup matches (drew one, lost four), their joint-longest winless run in the competition.
    • Australia have also been unable to keep a clean sheet in each of their past 12 World Cup games, the longest current run in the competition alongside Saudi Arabia.
  5. England players don't know who's playing - Alexander-Arnold

England v Panama (Sunday, 13:00 BST)

Some news from the England camp and defender Trent Alexander-Arnold insists none of the players have been told by manager Gareth Southgate whether they are playing against Panama.

Remember, England started off their campaign with a 2-1 win over Tunisia thanks to two goals from Harry Kane, including a last-minute winner.

    Denmark 1-1 Australia

Australia captain Mile Jedinak scored a penalty for the third successive World Cup game to earn the Socceroos their first Group C point against Denmark.

Christian Eriksen put Denmark ahead with a super finish after Nicolai Jorgensen's clever lay-off. Australia levelled through Jedinak's controversial penalty awarded after a video assistant referee (VAR) review.

Yussuf Poulsen's close-range handball was analysed on video before the referee pointed to the spot. In an absorbing encounter, Aston Villa's Jedinak sent Kasper Schmeichel the wrong way for his second goal of the tournament.

Aaron Mooy's went close from distance for Australia before Denmark's Pione Sisto was left holding his head after a curling shot from outside the area flashed just wide.

Rob Gibson: Australia comfortably deserved to win this game, they’ve battered Denmark. Just that tiny bit of quality lacking in the final third, Arzani needs to start against Peru.

Kieran W: Kasper Schmeichel certainly lives up to that famous name. Fantastic player.

  10. 'Denmark will be happier'

    Denmark 1-1 Australia

    Leon Osman

Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

The way the game developed, I think Denmark will be the happier with the point - they seemed to be hanging on in the second half and Australia were the aggressors.

There was a lack of quality in the final third but both sides were attacking and it was a very honest game. Overall, a draw was probably the right result.

Having lost the first game to France, Australia knew they needed to win this game. The chances were created more out of energy than any brilliance but that didn't stop the game being a good watch.

  11. WATCH: Australia awarded VAR penalty against Denmark

    Denmark 1-1 Australia

But Denmark could not hold on to their lead as, yet again, the video assistant referee got involved in a match at this tournament.

Mile Jedinak was a happy man though as he converted his second spot-kick of the competition.

Eriksen to take it. It falls to Martin Braithwaite at the back post and he can only lob it straight into Mat Ryan's hands.

  15. A one-man team?

    Denmark 1-1 Australia

    Leon Osman

Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

That's the first time we've seen Christian Eriksen for quite a while and Australia have done a fantastic job in this second half to deny Eriksen any opportunities.

It shows just how limited this Danish team is when a side manages to limit Eriksen's ability to influence the game.

  16. Post update
