We're done.

After an amazing afternoon in Moscow, Russia are through to the quarter-finals.

What a World Cup this is.

Right, that's about all the drama I can take for one lifetime.

There is more football, so get yourself here to follow Croatia-Denmark.

Peter Collins: Watching Russia defend deep for two hours isn't great for football, but if I'm being honest, watching Spain pass it around in defence isn't great either. They didn't do enough to win the game, and penalties is a good way to split them up.

Alex Howard: Have to say after that game (I dislike Spain is a disclaimer), Fifa need to find an alternative solution to penalties. Allows teams to play negative football for 120 minutes and hope for a slice of luck - Russia a prime example

'Spain got what they deserved'

Spain 1-1 Russia (3-4 pens)

Rio Ferdinand

Former England defender on BBC One

Spain have been so successful with that style of possession football but there comes a time when you have to get the ball into the strikers.

You have to change it up a bit. Spain got what they deserved.

'Spain couldn't break Russia down'

Spain 1-1 Russia (3-4 pens)

Alan Shearer

Former Newcastle striker on BBC One

We knew Russia would look for opportunities from set-pieces and defend very well, and that is exactly what they did. The number of times we have seen Spain play stubborn sides like this and break them down with sharp and incisive passes, but today they couldn't break them down.

Rio Ferdinand

Former England defender on BBC One

No matter how many times you practice in training you cannot recreate the atmosphere and the emotions of a shootout like that.

So, potentially none of the so called 'big nations' to play until the final for England. You know what that means? Last-16 defeat to Columbia. Guaranteed.

Spain 1-1 Russia (3-4 pens)

Russia will meet one of Croatia or Denmark for a place in the World Cup semi-finals. That match will take place in Sochi on Saturday at 19:00 BST.

Remember, this is in England's half of the draw. One of Russia, Croatia, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, England or Colombia will be in the World Cupundefined final. Of those teams, Switzerland are highest-placed in the world rankings.

'Spain is a better side than Russia'

Spain 1-1 Russia (3-4 pens)

Cesc Fabregas

Chelsea and Spain midfielder on BBC One

I am speechless because I expected a different game today. I think Spain is a much better side than Russia. Russia had a plan which was to go to penalties and pray, and it paid off for them. Andres Iniesta doesn't deserve to go out like this, in what could be his last game for Spain.

Iago Aspas, who took the final spot-kick, took a massive run-up. It just looked like he would miss. What a shambles of a World Cup for Spain. Manager sacked on the eve of the tournament, then a curious, tepid performance here.

'Remembered forever'

You go to penalties and your keeper can't fail, he has nothing to lose. Today Akinfeev stood up and he was the man, he will be remembered forever, every kid in this generation now will remember him.

Russia were playing against serial winners in this Spanish team but they never produced enough.

Russia were unfancied, the locals have been telling us their team are rubbish, they have got no chance. They are in the last eight.

'Well done Russia'

Spain 1-1 Russia (3-4 pens)

Alan Shearer

Former Newcastle striker on BBC One

What a magnificent story, from the very first game to now. They have done it the hard way and beat a very good team by defending very well.

They kept their nerves in an incredible situation, in front of their fans. Well done Russia.

Russia had never before been involved in a shootout in a major tournament. Their players have a flag in the centre circle. It's a party in the Moscow rain.

'Akinfeev the hero'

What a moment for Russia. It's a poor penalty but credit to Akinfeev for two saves in a shootout, he is the hero.

It's absolutely incredible. Moscow is going crazy. Akinfeev was swamped by his team-mates. There are Russian tears of joy and Spanish tears of despair. Amazing, amazing scenes.
