  1. League Cup group action

I'll sign off for now but there is BBC Radio Scotland coverage of tonight's League Cup group action all the way through until 22:00.

Use the link at the top of the page to listen in.

  2. A lot of work ahead - Gerrard

    FT: Shkupi 0-0 Rangers (0-2)

More from Steven Gerrard on Rangers TV...

"Our game management was really good. There's a base there for us to move forward, a platform for us to build on.

"We will get better on the ball and we will improve in the final third.

"At the moment, I'm a bit mixed. I'm pleased with one side of the game but there is certainly a hell of a lot of work to be done on the other side."

  3. Lack of attacking threat troubles Gerrard

    FT: Shkupi 0-0 Rangers (0-2)

Manager Steven Gerrard talking to Rangers TV:

"We're pleased with some things and disappointed with some others. Out of possession we were good, our shape was good. I thought we were aggressive and Allan McGregor and the two centre-backs were outstanding.

"I don't think we passed the ball well enough in the first 30 minutes and throughout the game there was a serious lack of quality in the final third."

  4. All about the result for Rangers

    FT: Shkupi 0-0 Rangers (0-2)

    Andy Burke

    BBC Sport Scotland in Skopje

A match not exactly flush with quality or excitement, but at this stage of the season it's all about getting through these early qualifiers.

Rangers will look at some of the chances spurned across the two legs, and some of the sloppy defending that allowed the Macedonian minnows a few sniffs at goal.

Across the two legs though Rangers have been by far the better side and it's job done for Steven Gerrard in his first European tie as a manager.

  5. Bumper night of League Cup action

Sportsound is staying on air until 22:00, with no fewer than 15 League Cup matches going on.

  6. Rangers need to strengthen further

    FT: Shkupi 0-0 Rangers (0-2)

    Billy Dodds

    Former Rangers striker on Sportsound

Quote Message: If Rangers want to challenge for the title, they need to bring in at least three or four more (new players)
  7. Gerrard still fine tuning

    FT: Shkupi 0-0 Rangers (0-2)

Scott Arfield was rested tonight after picking up a knock, while new arrivals Lassana Coulibaly and Sadiq Umar will be eligible for the next round, meaning there are places up for grabs in the Rangers starting line-up.

Ovie Ejaria looked bright when he came on in the second half, so there's a lot for boss Steven Gerrard to chew on as he settles on his best side.

There may yet be one or two more new signings before the end of August.

  8. Who next?

    FT: Shkupi 0-0 Rangers (0-2)

Rangers will be up against either Osijek or Petrocub in the second round of qualifying.

Those two drew 1-1 in Moldova last week, with the return to be played in Croatia on Thursday.

Osijek can be filed under the 'no mugs' category since they beat PSV Eindhoven home and away to reach the play-off round last season.

  9. 'Comprehensive' result for Rangers

    FT: Shkupi 0-0 Rangers (0-2)

    Billy Dodds

    Former Rangers striker on Sportsound

Quote Message: Rangers will have to be better if they play better opposition. But you can only beat what's put in front of you. It's a good result, a confidence booster, a momentum booster. Rangers have sealed the deal quite comprehensively.
  10. Post update

    FT: Shkupi 0-0 Rangers (0-2)

Back-to-back clean sheets. That will do nicely for Rangers boss Steven Gerrard.

The former Liverpool captain has definitely had more memorable nights in Europe but he'll be reasonably satisfied with what he's seen as he prepares for the next step.

The lack of attacking menace against very ordinary opposition may be a concern.

  11. FULL-TIME Shkupi 0-0 Rangers (0-2)

Job done. Rangers progress without any fuss.

  12. Post update

    Shkupi 0-0 Rangers (0-2)

We'll get three minutes of stoppage-time. Shkupi teenager Suhejlj Muharem looks sharp but the hosts have left it far too late.

Another spell of pressure ends with the ball drifting onto the roof of Allan McGregor's net.

  13. Post update

    Shkupi 0-0 Rangers (0-2)

Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday gets on for an appearance bonus. He takes over from Jamie Murphy, who scored and won a penalty in the first leg.

    Shkupi 0-0 Rangers (0-2)

Allan McGregor to the rescue... Muarem Muarem comes steaming in from the left and has a blast but the Rangers keeper gets down well to block the low shot.

  15. 'Shkupi don't have enough to score'

    Shkupi 0-0 Rangers (0-2)

    Billy Dodds

    Former Rangers striker on Sportsound

Quote Message: From what we've seen over the two games they [Shkupi] don't look like they've got enough to score a goal and get them back into the tie. You could see it from the early stages in this game.
Rangers James Tavernier (left) and Ross McCrorie in action.
  16. Post update

    Shkupi 0-0 Rangers (0-2)

Ovie Ejaria is fouled and James Tavernier will try his luck from another free kick. The Rangers captain whips in a shot but a defender in the wall jumps up to get his noggin on it and deflects the ball high over the crossbar.

  17. Post update

    Shkupi 0-0 Rangers (0-2)

It doesn't look like there's going to be a cavalry charge from Shkupi. A few aimless, high balls is all the hosts have mustered in the last few minutes.

  18. Post update

    Shkupi 0-0 Rangers (0-2)

The ball pops up for Ovie Ejaria inside the penalty box but a desperate, swinging leg from an exhausted defender just gets to it before him.

  19. Post update

    Shkupi 0-0 Rangers (0-2)

Shkupi bring on a couple of attack-minded subs - including 16-year-old forward Suhejlj Muharem - and are finally starting to push men on. Will we see some fireworks in the final 15?

  20. 'Middleton should have scored'

    Shkupi 0-0 Rangers

    Billy Dodds

    Former Rangers striker on Sportsound

Quote Message: He [Glenn Middleton] should have scored. That's the best chance. His touch took him wide and then he goes near post when he should go across the keeper
