  1. Goodbye!

Thank you for joining our coverage of the penultimate day of the transfer window.

Tune in for live text updates from Celtic's Champions League qualifier against AEK Athens from 19:00 BST tonight.

  2. All set for a busy last 24 hours!

As we approach the final 24 hours of the window there are a few big stories worth keeping tabs on.

Chelsea are set to break the world record fee for a goalkeeper after paying the 80m euros (£71m) release clause for Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. The deal for the 23-year-old will surpass the £66.8m Liverpool paid for Alisson in July, and allow Thibaut Courtois to complete a move to Real Madrid.

In a busy day for the Blues, Croatia and Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic is set to have a medical in SW6 ahead of a loan move from the Champions League holders. The deal may see Tiemoue Bakayoko leave the club on loan, with reports of AC Milan showing interest in the 23-year-old.

Wolves have continued their spending spree with the signing of Spanish winger Adama Traore for a club-record fee after meeting the £18m release clause in his Middlesbrough contract.

Anand: How’s no one talking about fact that Chelsea is paying double for unknown entity vs golden glove winner??

Gary: Tom at 14.01. Grealish didn't start playing for us at 15! I'm cool with you not wanting him though. We'll happily keep him.

Richard: Well Tom, why shouldn’t a team put their foot down and not give in? Surely up to the selling club, Spurs need to decide what they want and get on or go away. If want him pay it if don’t think worth it then go away stop playing around for the last month!

  5. Burnley's European Tour finally enters Europe...

Today sees the day that Burnley's long-awaited European Tour goes international, as the Clarets travel to Istanbul Basaksehir.

Sean Dyche's side are hoping for a win in Thursday's Europa League third qualifying round first leg.

The game is Burnley's first European match outside of Britain since 1967, having beaten Aberdeen in extra time last week.

The preview for tomorrow night's fixture is right here.

  8. Brain injury expert calls for ban on heading in football

Let us digress for a moment, and discuss a topic which has attracted a lot of interest/comments today...

One of the world's leading experts on brain injuries believes heading a football should be restricted in the professional game and banned for those under the age of 18.

Dr Bennet Omalu discovered the brain disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), which has long-term effects and is caused by repeated head trauma.

An inquest into the death of former England and West Brom footballer Jeff Astle ruled he died from brain trauma caused by heading heavy leather footballs.

He died in 2004, aged 72, after suffering with Alzheimer's for almost 10 years following his 16-year football career.

Several high-profile ex-players have also been diagnosed with dementia, including 1966 England World Cup winners Nobby Stiles, Martin Peters and Ray Wilson, Liverpool legends Ron Yeats and Tommy Smith and Celtic's European Cup-winning captain Billy McNeill.

  9. Bakayoko on his way to Italy - reports

Tiemoue Bakayoko could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge, in a loan deal with AC Milan.

Sky Sports are reporting that the Blues midfielder could be allowed to join the Italian club if Mateo Kovacic comes in from Real Madrid.

J Samuel: As a midlander surely a cob? Or is that only for cold meats?

Aaron: It's a muffin END OF STORY.

Scott: it’s a burger bun and a bacon roll, a teacake is like a hot cross bun and only eaten at Easter.

    That's us told then...

  11. Celtic in pursuit of Champions League place

Celtic return to European action tonight as they host AEK Athens in the first leg of their Champions League third round qualifier.

The Scottish champions saw off Norwegian side Rosenborg in the previous round.

Brendan Rodgers men are set to be without striker Moussa Dembele, who has a hamstring strain, but midfielder Olivier Ntcham is "fine" after an ankle knock.

  12. Karius thanks Liverpool fans for warm reception following a difficult few months

After a difficult few months following that Champions League final performance, Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has faced what probably feels to him like constant criticism.

A lack of faith from Liverpool fans, the arrival of new signing/possible replacement Alisson from Roma, and online trolls have all contributed to negative reaction from the world of football.

So, it was definitely nice to see the 25-year-old received a brilliant reception from the Reds during yesterday's pre-season friendly against Torino.

    Keep your head up, Karius!

Tom: Everyone complaining about excessive transfer fee demands from clubs have no right to moan until they are being told to pay £35m for a Championship midfielder who has scored 9 goals in 7 years at Aston Villa... and as Spurs fan I don't even want him!

Chris: United already have a decent squad. Defensive record bettered only by City last season. However only 68 PL goals with a squad that includes Lukaku, Rashford, Lingard, Martial and Pogba means the style of play needs to change rather than spending more millions.

Amir: What a transfer window for goalies: Kepa, Alisson, Courtois 3 most expensive transfer paid for goalie in the same window. WOW!

  15. Torino back in for Pereyra - reports

The Watford Observer are reporting that Torino's interest in signing Hornets' midfielder Roberto Pereyra has resurfaced.

The 27-year-old has been linked with a move away from Vicarage Road this summer, although he has played a key role throughout pre-season.

Former Watford boss Walter Mazzarri - now manager at the Serie A club - is an admirer of the Argentinean, and it's worth remembering that the Italians can continue to do business until 18 August.

  16. McGinn to Villa is almost over the line

The player has been in talks with the English Championship club since Tuesday and is understood to be close to a move.

  20. Grealish unhappy at Spurs snag

    Simon Stone

    BBC Sport

Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish is understood to be furious at being priced out of a move to Tottenham.

Grealish has been a Spurs target for most of the summer.

The 22-year-old thought he had an agreement that he would be allowed to leave if Villa received a £25m bid, which was submitted yesterday.

The Championship outfit refute this and, in any event, are now in a much healthier financial situation following the takeover by billionaire businessmen Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris.

It has left Tottenham unable to conclude the deal.

Unless the situation changes, he now faces another season in the second tier.
