  3. 'I don't understand how'

FT: Young Boys 0-3 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho speaking to BT Sport: "Job done. Not phenomenal but good enough. They were intense, compact and had self esteem. Then after the first goal the game was under control. We tried to score the goals that gave us the stability for the second half.

"It is important for us to win because probably every team is going to get six points against Young Boys. Now we have two important matches against Valencia and Juventus. They are very good opponents.

On the pitch: "There was probably some fears of injuries. I had some players who were feeling sore after training yesterday. People are more used to playing on great surfaces in England. The football is much more beautiful that way.

"Now the game is over, I can say I don't understand how you can play the best club football on an artificial pitch.

  4. 'Soft sending off'

    Valencia 0-2 Juventus

    Darren Fletcher

Former Man Utd midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

It was a soft sending off for Ronaldo, but the letter of the law says you probably cannot do that, so I think the one-match ban will probably stick.

He will feel like he was letting his teammates down in that moment, but Juventus have showed great character in getting a fantastic result, and I expect him to play in both games against Manchester United.

  5. 'One of the best young full-backs'

FT: Young Boys 0-3 Man Utd

    Manchester United

More from Jose Mourinho on Paul Pogba's performance: "He felt tired in the last part of the game but it was a good performance. Solid, class and gave the team the pace we needed at times. He controlled the tempo and of course it was a very good goal.

"The penalty showed personality too as sometimes when you miss one you have doubts but none for him."

On Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw: "Both full-backs were very, very good. Very offensive and always eyes open. Very calm. Luke has been doing it since the start of the season and Diogo is one of the best young right-backs in Europe already. He is just 19 years old.

  6. 'Everyone is proud'

    Man City 1-2 Lyon

Lyon forward Memphis Depay, speaking to BT Sport: "It is a big result. I am proud of the team. It was difficult game but when we had the ball we tried to play and when we won the ball we tried to counter-attack. We have a good team and tonight we showed that we can definitely go through from this group stage.

"They pressed and it was difficult to come out from the pressure. But we came away with the win. We have three points and we have to continue this. Everyone is very proud.

"It will give us confidence to have won this. Something we have to take into Ligue 1. We have won big games before and we have to continue to play like this and get used to it."

  7. Shaw and Dalot at full-back

    Young Boys 0-3 Man Utd

    Darren Fletcher

Former Man Utd midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

United may have answered their questions at full-back. Luke Shaw started the season fantastically and he looked good again this evening.

I watched Diogo Dalot play against Stoke City under-23s and he was great, as he was tonight. Antonio Valencia is not a natural right back, and if they can dovetail this season it could bode well.

  8. Could Ronaldo miss games against Man Utd?

So, after Cristiano Ronaldo's red card for Juventus following a tussle with Valencia's Jeison Murillo - there are some questions that need to be answered.

Will he be suspended? Yes, the standard ban for a red card is for one Champions League game. They face Young Boys next on Tuesday, 2 October.

Could it be longer than one game? If Uefa deem the offence to be serious enough, they could decide to extend the ban to two or three games.

A two-game ban would mean he misses the game against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Tuesday, 23 October.

And a third match would see him sit out the return game in Turin on Wednesday, 7 November.

  9. 'If you give away cheap goals it is difficult'

    Man City 1-2 Lyon

    Manchester City

Manchester City assistant boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to BT Sport: "We saw two very different halves. We conceded many counter-attacks and at this level you get punished. In the second half we dominated and played in the opponents half and created many chances.

"I still believed we could do it. We reacted really well. On another day we could have come back. If you give cheap goals away it is difficult. The subs affected the game but sometimes it is too late.

"I was told there were two penalties in the game but I did not see clearly.

"It is disappointing. We are usually strong at home. Now you have to go and win away from home."

  10. 'It was just one of those nights'

    Man City 1-2 Lyon

    Andy Townsend

Ex-Republic of Ireland international on BBC Radio 5 live

Ahead of the game we spoke about Lyon being mediocre, but they were organised and they had a structure.

They looked like they were able to cope with everything City could throw at them. It was just one of those nights, although there haven't been many under Pep Guardiola.

  12. 'We were not good enough'

    Man City 1-2 Lyon

    Manchester City

Manchester City defender John Stones, talking to BT Sport: "Really disappointing. To concede two goals like we did is very frustrating,. We came in at half-time a bit deflated. We picked ourselves up and played a better second half but it was frustrating.

"It is the first game. Still early days. We put pressure on ourselves. There is no outside pressure. We know our strengths and weaknesses. We go again in the next game. There are still a lot to play and we should be positive about that."

City midfielder Bernardo Silva: "We have to focus on a poor first half when we weren't at our best. We didn't play with our usual intensity. We were not good enough tonight. It is what it is. We have to go after the next game.

"We are not favourites. We have a god team and will try to do better than last season."

  13. 'Leroy Sane made a difference'

    Man City 1-2 Lyon

    Andy Townsend

Ex-Republic of Ireland international on BBC Radio 5 live

With respect to Fabian Delph, who is a great squad player who can play in the middle of the park, they missed Benjamin Mendy. That is when Bernado Silva is at his best, when someone is flying outside him.

Leroy Sane made a difference because he got at players and made things happen, as we saw with the goal.

  14. 'The penalty helped us out'

FT: Young Boys 0-3 Man Utd

    Manchester United

More from Luke Shaw on Pogba: "He gets some stick sometimes but we know what quality he has. For me, he is one of the best in the world. He is important as captain. He shows on the pitch what kind of leader he is. Hopefully he can carry that on.

On the penalty: "It is a tough one. It was up to the referee. I think it was a penalty but it helped us out. Thanks ref!

    Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw
  15. 'Pogba came up with the magic'

FT: Young Boys 0-3 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot speaking to BT Sport: "It was very good. The team have helped me and prepared me for this. I am happy for the debut and for the win. That is most important. I think it was a good win.

"Most of the Young Boys team is used to playing on this pitch. We are not. It was tough but we needed to be prepared for that."

Left-back Luke Shaw: "It was extremely difficult in the first half. We didn't start bright. The pitch was difficult but we got to grips with it. Paul Pogba came up with a bit of magic for the first goal and that calmed us down a bit.

"It is always tough. The crowd, the pitch and the atmosphere...They were up for it. It is all about the points though and we got them today. We are professional footballers so we need to be able to play on any surface."

Farah: Professional performance from United, away win, 2 Pogba goals and an assist, Dalot with a great debut, Shaw maintaining his good form, Jose smiling. What on earth will the papers write about tomorrow?

Ryan: You know you’re playing below par when the goalkeeper's trickery is the only crowd pleaser!

Peter: I will say it yet again: PLAY FODEN !! - He is as good as it gets - I know I will be proven right in time

  17. 'Lyon deserve their victory'

    Man City 1-2 Lyon

    Andy Townsend

Ex-Republic of Ireland international on BBC Radio 5 live

We all wrote Lyon off before the game, but they have turned up here tonight and they have deserved their victory.

They looked more dangerous on the counter attack than the home team, and they had a resilience about them. Once they took a 2-0 lead they looked comfortable, and City failed to find a cutting edge.

  18. 'United deserved winners'

    Young Boys 0-3 Man Utd

    Darren Fletcher

Former Man Utd midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

A 3-0 win in difficult circumstances away from home will be pleasing for Jose Mourinho. Paul Pogba was fantastic with two goals and as assist, and although there were some scary moments, I thought they were deserved winners.
