  1. Post update

    Elvis the dog

And that is where we will end today's live text commentary.

I'm afraid it wasn't to be for seventh-tier Hitchin Town and their canine mascot Elvis.

We will of course be back on Monday from 19:00 GMT with the second-round draw and live text commentary of Hampton & Richmond against Oldham.

Hope you can join us then. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  2. Watch the second-round draw on the BBC

Hampton & Richmond v Oldham Athletic (Mon, 19:45 GMT)

The first round concludes on Monday as sixth-tier Hampton & Richmond host League Two Oldham.

Both sides will already know who they face in round two, with the draw happening before the game.

The second-round draw will be broadcast live on BBC Two and online on Monday from 19:00 GMT.

  3. Post update

We started the weekend with 80 teams - 52 have made it into the second-round draw.

We will of course lose another 12 once the first-round replays take place in just over a week.

But this is not where the action in round one ends...

  4. 'It's a happy camp'

    FT: Port Vale 1-2 Sunderland

Sunderland midfielder George Honeyman told BT Sport:

"It's a great way to start the game off., We had a problem with that at the start of the season but we've turned that around.

"Our work-rate will keep our run going. It's a really happy camp at the minute and we all feel good going out on the pitch and the results go with that."

  5. 'Job done'

    FT: Port Vale 1-2 Sunderland

Sunderland midfielder Lynden Gooch told BT Sport:

"We said we wanted to keep winning and we've got that winning mentality but we've got the job done.

"They back us 100% every week and it's just good to see the fans happy.

"We knew Port Vale were tough from set pieces but we got the win."

  7. FULL-TIME

    Port Vale 1-2 Sunderland

The full-time whistle is blown and this game is all over.

Sunderland, who led after just 38 seconds through George Honeyman's goal, seal their place in Monday's FA Cup second-round draw.

Credit to Port Vale for putting up a fight, but the Black Cats hold on.

  8. Post update

    Port Vale 1-2 Sunderland

Five minutes have been added on to this match and there's a frantic cheer from the home support as they urge their side on in these final stages.

Can they force a replay and equalise?

    Sunderland v Port Vale
  9. Post update

    Port Vale 1-2 Sunderland

This game is drawing to a close now but it wouldn't surprise me if there's at least another goal in this one, as both sides look up for it.

Leon Legge is the latest Port Vale man to try his luck on goal to no avail as his effort goes well wide of the mark.

A big final three minutes remain.

  14. How did that not go in?

    Port Vale 1-2 Sunderland

    Nick Barnes

    BBC Newcastle's Sunderland commentator

Pope can't believe he hasn't scored the equaliser there.

  15. Post update

    Port Vale 1-2 Sunderland

Tom Pope finds a way through the Sunderland back line and somehow can't quite put the ball in the net as there's a scramble to dispossess him.

    End to end stuff, now!

  16. Great Save

    Port Vale 1-2 Sunderland

    Gary Bennett

    Ex-Sunderland footballer on BBC Newcastle

    Excellent save from Scott Brown.

It was good technique from Honeyman to get a clean strike on that.

  17. Post update

    Port Vale 1-2 Sunderland

Aiden McGeady goes on a long, unopposed run down the left wing and delivers an excellent cross into the box which finds its way to George Honeyman who fires straight at Port Vale goalkeeper Scott Brown.

How they're not 3-1 up at least, I do not know.

  19. Post update

    Port Vale 1-2 Sunderland

George Honeyman, at pace, finds the onrushing Aiden McGeady with a tremendous through ball but he fires from distance and Vale keeper Scott Brown easily catches his effort.

It's all Sunderland at the minute.

  20. Post update

    Port Vale 1-2 Sunderland

Reece James puts in a lovely ball into the box towards the head of Josh Maja but there's too much on it and it sails behind him, however Port Vale concede a corner as they attempt to get rid of it.

Fortuantely for the hosts, they clear the corner with ease and another Sunderland attack looks to be done with.
