    Laura Bassett

Former England defender on BBC Two

Germany now have a week to prepare for next Saturday's quarter-final against Sweden or Canada. Is that an advantage?

The players will get very impatient. It won't work against them but they will be raring to go whoever it is they face.

    Casey Stoney

Manchester United Women manager on BBC Two

Germany haven't conceded a goal yet at this tournament - they are very hard to beat.

  6. Post update

    FT: Germany 3-0 Nigeria

It wasn't spectacular but it was enough from Germany. They have quietly progressed to the quarter-finals with ease, without conceding a goal so far.

They are still a way off their best too. Can they weave their way through this favourable part of the draw?

  7. FULL-TIME

    Germany 3-0 Nigeria

Germany are through to the quarter-finals of the World Cup. They will face Sweden or Canada.

    Nigeria are going home.

  8. Post update

    Germany 3-0 Nigeria

Lea Schuller became the 36th different player to score a Women's World Cup goal for Germany when she netted today's third - that's at least three more players than any other nation.

    .
  9. CLOSE!

    Germany 3-0 Nigeria

Desire Oparanozie does her best and it's almost enough... what a strike! She curls it towards the top right post with pace but it skims inches over.

Germany keeper Almuth Schult looked confident it was going high.

  10. Post update

    Germany 3-0 Nigeria

Francisca Ordega is caight late by a sliding Lena Oberdorf and Nigeria have a chance to grab a late consolation with a free-kick on the edge of the box.

Can they give their fans one final goal to cheer for at this World Cup?

  11. Post update

    Germany 3-0 Nigeria

    Lucy Ward

Former Leeds United Ladies striker on BBC Two

I'm not saying this game is petering out but there are five pigeons on the pitch who haven't taken the hint that there is a football game going on.

    Germany v Nigeria
  12. Post update

    Germany 3-0 Nigeria

Desire Oparanozie juggles the ball, beats a midfielder but plays a sloppy pass down the wing which Marina Hegering can easily pick up.

The Nigerian players look tired now.

  13. Post update

    Germany 3-0 Nigeria

Desire Opranozie plays a hopeful ball forward which is nodded down and slipped through on the right.

The cross is blocked though, just as Nigeria gathers numbers in the box.

  14. SUBSTITUTION

    Germany 3-0 Nigeria

Last change for Nigeria. Alice Ogebe replaces Uchenna Kane.

  15. Post update

    Germany 3-0 Nigeria

    Lucy Ward

Former Leeds United Ladies striker on BBC Two

What that shows you is how good a goalscorer Schuller really is. She has been quiet today but as soon as she gets a chance, she scores. Her goal ratio at senior level for Germany is better than one in two.

  16. GOAL - Germany 3-0 Nigeria

    Lea Schuller

Clinical finish from Lea Schuller but it's a howler from Rasheedat Ajibade.

The substitute, who has just been booked, tries to pass it back to a teammate but gets it all wrong and ends up feeding in Schuller in the box.

Schuller just keeps her cool and blasts it into the back of the net - right in the corner.

  17. YELLOW CARD

    Germany 2-0 Nigeria

Marina Hegering and Rasheedat Ajibade clash in the air and both players receive treatment. The referee is ready with her card though and shows it to Ajibade when she gets back to her feet.

    Brutal!

  18. Post update

    Germany 2-0 Nigeria

    Lucy Ward

Former Leeds United Ladies striker on BBC Two

Nigeria are just so open at the back. You can get a bus through the two centre-halves.

  19. CLOSE!

    Germany 2-0 Nigeria

Chinaza Uchendu goes close with a header at one end before Sara Dabritz is played clean through in the box by Lena Oberdorf.

It's a tight angle for Dabritz on the left and she fires wide of the right post!
