  1. Canaries and Blades in pole position for Premier League

    Sheffield United celebrate

Automatic promotion to the Premier League is so close now for Norwich and Sheffield United.

Norwich are almost there given their superior goal difference, but a draw against Blackburn on Saturday will be enough to seal it.

The Blades need another four points but, like Norwich, are clear of Leeds on goal difference. Beating relegated Ipswich is likely to be enough to end their Premier League exile.

  2. Match reaction

    FT: Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Brentford goalscorer Sergi Canos tells Sky Sports: "It was a pleasure to play. We were confident that we could enjoy chances and we could create chances and we did."

The former Norwich man added: "I had some Norwich players messaging me yesterday saying 'please score'. I'm pleased for them."

    FT: Brentford 2-0 Leeds

BBC Radio 5 Live at Griffin Park

The reaction of the Leeds players at the full-time whistle tells the story of the most damaging Easter period.

Some sat on the turf, many more with their heads bowed. Two defeats in four days has left Bielsa’s side needing some serious generosity from Sheffield United in the next fortnight.

It could be all-but over bar the shouting by Saturday in terms of Leeds’ top two hopes.

  4. Leeds' promotion hopes fade

    FT: Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Here's the story of Brentford's win over Leeds...

Leeds lose key ground in promotion race

Leeds United slip three points below promotion rivals Sheffield United with two games to play as they lose at Brentford.

  5. Remaining Championship fixtures

    FT: Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Norwich: Blackburn (h), Aston Villa (a)

Sheffield United: Ipswich (h), Stoke (a)

Leeds: Aston Villa (h), Ipswich (a)

Norwich and Sheffield United have winnable home games on Saturday. Add in that Leeds' goal difference is inferior to the two teams above them, and it's a tall order for the Whites now.

One more point will send the Canaries up, while the Blades need four points to be sure of promotion.

  7. Post update

    FT: Brentford 2-0 Leeds

A case of what might have been for Leeds.

If they don't reach the Premier League, they'll look back at their results this weekend - losses to Wigan and Brentford - as key defeats.

Leeds' heads are down. It's not all over for them, but they know they need help from elsewhere to finish in the top two.

  8. FULL-TIME

    Brentford 2-0 Leeds

    Marcelo Bielsa

A damaging, damaging defeat for Leeds United, who are three points off second place with two matches left to play.

They should have had a penalty when it was goalless in the first half, but conceded either side of half-time to Brentford and now have it all to do in the battle for automatic promotion.

It may have to be the play-offs if their Premier League dreams are to be realised this season.

  9. Post update

    Brentford 2-0 Leeds

As the seconds tick by, there's no sign of a stunning Leeds comeback.

  10. Post update

    Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Into five minutes of added time...

  11. SUBSTITUTION

    Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Josh Dasilva comes on for Ollie Watkins for the hosts.

  12. Post update

    Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Time is running out for Leeds.

They continue to press but, in all honesty, they haven't really looked like scoring since Brentford made it 2-0 midway through the second half.

  13. SUBSTITUTION

    Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Brentford goalscorer Sergi Canos is down receiving treatment for a knock and I think that'll be the last we see of him today. Emiliano Marcondes is on.

Canos has done his job for today...

    Sergi Canos
  14. YELLOW CARDS

    Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Yellow cards for Brentford's Ezri Konsa, Mat Klich of Leeds and then the Bees' Ollie Watkins, who goes down theatrically in the box and is booked for simulation.

  15. Post update

    Brentford 2-0 Leeds

    Sergi Canos

This was the scene after that second Brentford goal which looks to have taken this match - and possibly automatic promotion - beyond Leeds United.

There's still time for them to make a comeback. What they mustn't do is concede a third.

  16. Post update

    Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Sergi Canos should have put this game to bed but, having dribbled past two or three Leeds defenders, he tries to take on the goalkeeper too when he should have lifted it over him, and just loses the ball at the vital moment.

Think Georgi Kinkladze for Manchester City against Southampton at Maine Road in the mid-90s. All it was missing was the finish. Look it up, kids.

  17. Post update

    Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Nicely done by Leeds, who go from back to front fairly quickly.

Jack Clarke pulls it back for Mat Klich, but his shot is easily saved by Luke Daniels.

At the other end, there are likely to be plenty of gaps for Brentford to exploit in the closing minutes. It's win or bust for Leeds at this stage.

  18. 'We're trying to put square pegs in round holes'

    FT: Nott'm Forest 3-0 Middlesbrough

Following their loss against Forest, Tony Pulis' Middlesbrough have fallen out of the play-off places on goal difference.

Pulis said: "It was always going to be difficult - we've only got two real defenders on the pitch. We're trying to put square pegs in round holes and it really caught us out today.

"I'm disappointed. We played with forwards on the pitch today, more forward-thinking players than I've ever played, and you want them to do a lot more going forward.

"We've still got a chance. We've got to dust ourselves down and we need all the players to be together and try to get a result on Saturday."

    Tony Pulis
  19. Post update

    Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Almost a third for Brentford, as Neal Maupay acrobatically hooks over the bar after a break down the Bees' right.

Going back to my earlier point, Leeds don't play again until Sunday. With Norwich and Sheffield United both in action on Saturday, Leeds' hopes of a top-two finish could be all but over by the time Aston Villa go to Elland Road this weekend.

  20. SUBSTITUTION

    Brentford 2-0 Leeds

Leeds' final change sees winger Jack Clarke come on for defender Pontus Jansson.

Should Leeds lose today, Norwich will need one more point from their final two games - and Sheffield United four - to be promoted.
