  1. Post update

    Newcastle 0-0 West Ham

That's an absolute shocker of a tackle from Newcastle defender Ciaran Clark. He goes in nastily onto the shin. In a Premier League game that could have been red. Just a free-kick here.

  2. CLOSE!

    Newcastle 0-0 West Ham

Big chance! Great football from Newcastle with Jonjo Shelvey firing a great ball out to the right, Isaac Hayden racing forward and crossing into the middle but striker Elias Sorensen misses a sitter sliding in from six yards.

  3. Post update

    Newcastle 0-0 West Ham

Steve Bruce will be happy with what he's seen from his side so far. The majority of the game has been played in the West Ham half. Neither goalkeeper has been tested.

  4. Post update

    Newcastle 0-0 West Ham

The crowd 'ooooooos' and 'ahhhhhhhhs' as Jonjo Shelvey pings one across the field to Matt Ritchie. It has been a scrappy start.

  5. Post update

    Newcastle 0-0 West Ham

Who doesn't love a nice diving header from a goalkeeper when they come charging out of their penalty box?

Top marks to Lukasz Fabianski early on.

  7. KICK-OFF

    Newcastle 0-0 West Ham

Newcastle get us under way in their traditional black and white stripes.

  8. Post update

This ground is by no means full but there are a decent number of fans wearing the shirts of each team in the stands.

Steve Bruce is perched up there watching on.

  9. Post update

We're expecting Newcastle to play a 3-5-2 today. The teams are just emerging onto the pitch in Shanghai with some dry ice blowing into their faces.

  10. Team news

With Salomon Rondon having left after his loan spell ended and Ayoze Perez sold, 19-year-old Danish striker Elias Sorensen starts up front for Newcastle. 23-year-old full-back Jamie Sterry also starts.

West Ham have mixed it up from their defeat to Man City. Javier Hernandez starts up front.

Newcastle United: Dubravka, Sterry, Schar, Lascelles (c), Clark, Ritchie, Hayden, Shelvey, Colback, Muto, Sorensen.

West Ham: Fabianski, Zabaleta, Reid, Ogbonna, Cresswell; Rice, Cullen, Lanzini, Yarmolenko; Anderson, Hernandez.

  11. Post update

Newcastle and West Ham will both be looking for a morale-boosting win today after heavy defeats in their previous pre-season games, against Wolves and Man City respectively.

This is the Magpies first game since new manager Steve Bruce joined them in China after taking over.

He won't be in the dug out today, however.

A visa issue means despite taking training in recent days he'll be watching from the stands.

Coaches Ben Dawson and Neil Redfearn will be on the touchline.
