    But the Instagram king has today confirmed his retirement and the 38-year-old did so in typical Evra style, with a six-minute video on Insta.

  6. Solskjaer heading home

    Before the big kick-off, Manchester United are squeezing in another jaunt abroad, with Norwegian boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer taking the team back to his homeland.

    The Red Devils will play a friendly against Solskjaer's hometown club Kristiansund in Oslo and Simon Stone believes it will be a chance to see if United have really changed their strategy - and, if so, is Solskjaer at the heart of it?

  7. EFL 'likely to suspend' fixtures

    The EFL statement added that "if the information is not received, the EFL Board is likely to suspend" Bolton and Bury's opening league games on Saturday.

    The EFL season kicks off on Friday as newly promoted Luton host Middlesbrough in the Championship on Friday.

    The Premier League and Championship transfer deadline is Thursday, 8 August at 17:00 BST.

    For Leagues One and Two the deadline is Monday, 2 September.

  8. Bolton and Bury deadline extended

    Some EFL news now, and Bolton and Bury have been given until 17:00 BST to "provide confirmation to the League’s satisfaction that they can meet all outstanding commitments."

    The financially-troubled League One clubs had initially been given a deadline of 12:00 BST on Monday.

    An EFL statement read: "Following extensive discussions with the administrators of Bolton Wanderers, the ownership at Bury and the Professional Footballers’ Association over the course of the weekend some progress has been achieved in regard to the respective challenges they currently face."

  9. Perez decided to block Bale switch

    Florentino Perez made the call to scrap Bale's proposed move to China, with the Star reporting that the Real Madrid president felt Bale was too valuable to lose cheaply. Jiangsu Suning were set to sign the Welshman on a free transfer.

    In case you missed it, Gareth Bale's move to China was called off on Sunday, and the Sun has reported that the Wales forward and Real coach Zinedine Zidane are 'fuming'.

    Manchester United may still be in talks with Inter Milan over Romelu Lukaku but the Mirror has picked up in this line in the Italian press, saying that Juventus have stepped up their pursuit of the Belgian striker by offering Paulo Dybala in return - but they want a decision within seven days.
