  1. 'The proudest moment'

    Georgia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Ireland's Aaron Connolly, speaking to Sky Sports, on making his debut: "Definitely up there. Disappointing not to win. As a striker you have to score, it is a bit gutting not to put the ball in the back of the net but we go on to Tuesday now.

"I got two chances and probably should have put one of them away. It is a good overall performance and we will take a point.

"I wouldn’t say I was nervous I was excited, it is international debut, the proudest moment you can achieve.

"We could have won, we could have lost. We have a big game on Tuesday and all to play for. If we get three points then we."

On whether he deserves to start the next game: "That is up to the gaffer. I just went out to try and put in a performance."

  2. Goodbye!

    Georgia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

How vital that point will be, or how costly that draw was, will become apparent over the next month. And perhaps over the next few hours.

Check tabs on the action from Copenhagen, which kicks off at 17:00 BST, here.

Thanks for your company over the next couple of hours, sorry the match did not quite live up to the excitement of a Michael Flatley performance...

Then it will go down to the final two fixtures... the trip to Switzerland on Tuesday and a home match against Denmark next month.

But until we know what happens between Denmark and the Swiss later, the permutations are all a little muddy.

Here is how that leaves Group D.

If Denmark beat the Swiss then the 1992 European champions will climb above the Republic into top spot.

The bars of Tbilisi will be praying for a draw in Copenhagen later tonight.

  5. Post update

    Georgia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

I can't escape a nagging feeling that the Republic might yet come to see that as two points dropped.

  6. FULL-TIME

    Georgia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

A point hard earned by the Irish. But will it be enough in their quest to reach a third straight European Championship finals?

  7. Post update

    Georgia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Shane Duffy (who else) leaps into the Tbilisi night sky and heads... straight at the keeper. Irish heads in Irish hands all over the stadium.

  8. Post update

    Georgia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

    Corner. To the Republic...

  9. Post update

    Georgia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Finally the Republic have gone to the tactics page and switched from 'normal' to 'gung ho'....

  10. Post update

    Georgia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Aaron Connolly is in!! The Republic sub latches onto a pinpoint pass/wild hoof* from Glenn Whelan, races clear of the Georgian defence but crashes a shot into the side-netting.

  11. Post update

    Georgia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

The fourth official informs us there will be four minutes of stoppage time. Somebody. Please.

  12. Post update

    Georgia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

What a fairytale finish we would have if Aaron Connolly bags a late winner. Headline writers across the Republic perk up when the teenager pounces on a loose ball in the Georgia box, only to thump the desk when his low shot is easily saved.

  13. Post update

    Georgia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Noooo! More pressure from Georgia, more dross with the end product. This time right-back Otar Kakabadze is the culprit, blazing an ambitious 25-yard shot into Row M.

  14. Post update

    Georgia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

    A sting in the tale?

  15. Post update

    Georgia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

...which comes to nothing. Poor, poor quality in the final third.

  16. Post update

    Georgia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Foul on John Egan as he chases back a forward ball? Not according to the Italian ref. Home corner...

  17. Post update

    Georgia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Opponents must shudder when they see Shane Duffy marking them at a corner. The Republic man does enough to put off the Georgians and the away side escape unscathed.

  18. Post update

    Georgia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Uh oh! to me, to you... Seamus Coleman and John Egan turn into the Chuckle Brothers, allowing Georgia sub Elguja Lobjanidze (CTRL + C, CTRL + V) to burst through. But he loses his footing slightly as Glenn Whelan gets back to force a corner...

  19. Post update

    Georgia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Georgia still fancy their chances though. More pressure ends in Darren Randolph watching an effort fly over his bar.

  20. Post update

    Georgia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

For my money, the Republic need to win this. A draw wasn't enough in 2017, it might not prove to be enough in 2019.
