  1. What a finish!

    Bailey goal

So, what a way to start the EFL weekend.

Some late goals and late drama to keep everyone guessing, but arguably the deserved winners on the night when Odin Bailey took the headlines with his headed winner.

You can read all about that goal in our match report and don't forget to come back for more action across all three divisions on Saturday afternoon.

Thanks again for being with us.

  2. Coming up on Saturday

    Full programme in the EFL

    Scott Parker

We'll be back with more action on Saturday with a full programme of fixtures in the Championship, League One and League Two.

We begin with a London derby at Craven Cottage as Scott Parker's Fulham host Charlton in the Championship.

Our coverage starts from 12:00 BST and be sure to join us across BBC Sport throughout the afternoon.

  3. How does it stand?

    FT: Birmingham City 2-1 Middlesbrough

So the win for Birmingham takes them up to 12th place level on points with QPR, Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday...

Boro meanwhile are still down in 20th after that defeat.

They could drop even further down if results tomorrow go against them.

  4. Post update

Let's take a look at what that result means for both sides in the table...

    FT: Birmingham City 2-1 Middlesbrough

Birmingham City match-winner Odin Bailey speaking to Sky Sports:

"To get my first goal in front of the home fans and on television is amazing.

"You always want to stay ahead in the game and it was frustrating when we conceded, but the fact we found the character and then the goal was amazing.

"To play here in front of all these fans is amazing and for Jude (Bellingham) to do what he's doing as well at 16 is incredible.

"He's such a huge inspiration to all the other lads in the academy."

  6. Post update

    FT: Birmingham City 2-1 Middlesbrough

Odin Bailey is all smiles at that full-time whistle and who could blame the 19-year-old?

He stepped off the bench and headed in the winner for Birmingham just a couple of minutes later.

He and Jude Bellingham embrace and that's a sight lots of Blues fans will like as two of their homegrown products played a key part.

    Birmingham City 2-1 Middlesbrough

And it's all over at St Andrew's after some late drama.

Birmingham City's run of three defeats comes to an end and with a win (just!).

Boro's concerning downturn though continues and to be honest they can have few complaints across the 90 minutes that they came away with nothing from that game.

  8. Post update

    Birmingham City 2-1 Middlesbrough

A couple of long throws from Ryan Shotton come to nothing for Boro.

    Sums up their night really...

  9. Post update

    Birmingham City 2-1 Middlesbrough

Jonathan Woodgate looks a dejected figure on the touchline furious that he side had little time at 1-1.

Have they still got a chance to level again?

    Birmingham City 2-1 Middlesbrough

  11. GOAL: Birmingham City 2-1 Middlesbrough

    Odin Bailey

Looks like we have more drama!

Birmingham City retake the lead and in the dying moments.

Boro fail to clear a corner after three attempts and Dan Crowley's cross from the right picks out substitute Odin Bailey at the back post to head in.

He is absolutely delighted as are around 19,000 Birmingham City fans.

    Odin Bailey goal
  12. Post update

    Birmingham City 1-1 Middlesbrough

    Another fine Darren Randolph save!

He's not had as much to do for Boro in this second half, but they're glad he was there this time.

Alvaro Gimenez denied with a great block at the near post after he was played in well by Odin Bailey and Jacques Maghoma.

  13. GOAL: Birmingham City 1-1 Middlesbrough

    Daniel Ayala

Well, well....this is what happens when you don't kill teams off when you're on top.

Middlesbrough are level and should've not had a chance to do so.

Daniel Ayala bundles it in from close range as Britt Assombalonga hangs a ball up across the goal for him to finish after Birmingham failed to clear a free-kick.

  14. Post update

    Birmingham City 1-0 Middlesbrough

Ivan Sunjic flashes a shot just wide of Boro's left post with a right-foot drive.

That was a case of Boro not clearing their lines and getting even more frantic in the closing stages.

    Birmingham City 1-0 Middlesbrough

Rudy Gestede straight into the action for Boro with a nice shot on the half-volley that stings the palms of Lee Camp.

He takes the pace of it and catches well at the second grab.

    Change for Birmingham now.

Young Odin Bailey replaces Lukas Jutkiewicz.

    Birmingham City 1-0 Middlesbrough

Here comes that Boro change I mentioned.

Rudy Gestede is on with Anfernee Dijksteel coming off as they throw another man forward.

    Birmingham City 1-0 Middlesbrough

So close to a second Birmingham goal!

Gary Gardner crashes a shot from the edge of the box off the inside of the post and it bounces clear of danger.

  18. Post update

    Birmingham City 1-0 Middlesbrough

    Last 10 minutes approaching.

What's left to unfold in this one? Looks like another Boro change in the short term...

  19. Post update

    Birmingham City 1-0 Middlesbrough

Boro's Anfernee Dijksteel is a lucky boy here.

He's already on a yellow card and he trips Jacques Maghoma out wide when looking ready to make a cross.

Nervous couple of moments for the Boro full-back as it looked like the referee might reach for another yellow card.

  20. Post update

    Birmingham City 1-0 Middlesbrough

19,703 inside St Andrew's for this - just over 700 of those are Boro fans too.

Are the visitors slowly cranking their way up to an equaliser?

Second Birmingham change in the space of a couple of minutes as goalscorer Fran Villalba is replaced by Jacques Maghoma.
