  1. That's all folks

Crues to face Coleraine in League Cup final

So we have a Crusaders v Coleraine League Cup Final to look forward to on 15 February. Seems a long way off now, but it will fly in.

After a slow start, the Crues took a firm stranglehold on their semi-final with Institute with Stephen Baxter's side having already put their stamp on the game before Joe McCready's outbreak of the head staggers in the second half.

But while Crusaders' win was predictable, few would have bet on Coleraine romping to a 3-0 victory over holders Linfield in tonight's other semi-final. Coleraine were so poor in Saturday's Premiership defeat against Institute but Jimmy Greaves used to say, "football is a funny old game" and Bannsiders were a completely different outfit tonight.

Congrats to both Crusaders and Coleraine. The 15 February date is already in my diary although we have plenty of football to look forward locally before that day as one of the most exciting Irish League races in years continues.

Thanks for your company tonight. Our full report of tonight's action is now up on the BBC Sport NI website with video highlights on both games also about to land.

  2. Crusaders first goal was offside - Stute boss Connor

    Crusaders 2-0 Institute

Quote Message: For the first 20 or 25 minutes, we were the better team. We needed to take our chances. We weren't getting our shots off quickly enough. They definitely got a grip on the game in the next 20 minutes. Their first goal was probably deserved (on the play) but it was offside. Even their players admitted it was offside. When you come to games like this against big teams, you need the decisions to go for you and officials to be on top of their game. It's really difficult playing Crusaders but when you are playing Crusaders and the officials, that's impossible. The red card for McCready....if you kick out, you kick out. That's something I'll deal with internally. I'm not happy about that from Joseph. from Sean Connor Institute manager

  3. 'Our most complete away performance in my time'

    Linfield 0-3 Coleraine

Quote Message: We did what we had to do in the first half to make sure we were in the game. Then when we got our chances in the second half, it was great to take them. It's final we haven't been in for a few years (since 2012) so it's nice to get back there and something to tuck away and look forward to. I think in my time as Coleraine manager this was our most complete away performance. We were just solid from front to back. We restricted them to few chances which were largely just shots from distance. Overall, as a team performance it was right up there in terms of how good we have been. from Oran Kearney Coleraine manager

  4. Baxter happy with Crues display

    Crusaders 2-0 Institute

Quote Message: I felt we had a stranglehold on the game from start to finish. Institute started with a good shape to try and stop us coming forward but I felt the goal was coming. We hit the post, it looked like it went in, but then we broke up the pitch and we scored. I felt once we got the first goal that we would see this game out tonight and so it proved. We had a good rhythm in the game and a good tempo. We were working the ball out into good wide area. Ross Clarke was outstanding I thought with his pace down the right side and caused them a lot of trouble. Jordan Forsythe came into the team. He's been injured for a few weeks and pulled a ball down on to his chest and smashed it into the net. We played some nice stuff. I thought we could have added to our tally. Their keeper made some nice saves. All in all you have to be pleased. from Stephen Baxter Crusaders manager

    Linfield 0-3 Coleraine

A superb second-half display gives the Bannsiders a convincing win over the holders.

Aaron Canning, Ben Doherty and Aaron Jarvis netted the goals to take Coleraine through to the February decider.

Linfield's only good chance came from a Coleraine mistake and they struggled at both ends of the pitch - David Healy will not be a happy man.

    Crusaders 2-0 Institute

All over here as Crusaders complete a deserved 2-0 win over 10-man Institute. The Londonderry club made a promising start but the Crues took control and didn't look back after David Cushley's 37th-minute opener.

  8. GOAL

    Linfield 0-3 Coleraine

Done and dusted - an unmarked Aaron Jarvis heads in from a Ben Doherty corner to surely put the Bannsiders into the decider.

It's turning into the night to forget for Linfield and the holders are crashing out.

  9. GOAL

    Linfield 0-2 Coleraine

Ben Doherty's deflected strike doubles Coleraine's lead on 78 minutes.

The midfielder fires on goal from 20 yards and his shot is diverted over Rohan Ferguson by the unlucky Josh Robinson.

    Crusaders 2-0 Institute

Not for the first time tonight, Stute keeper Paul Wells has made a great save to deny Paul Heatley. The visiting goalkeeper has made a series of brilliant stops tonight - that's at least six by my count and I may have missed one or two in my frantic attempts to take notes on the action.

  12. High and wide

    Linfield 0-1 Coleraine

Coleraine are not sitting back on their lead - they push forward again but Ben Doherty gets it all wrong with his attempted curler not troubling Rohan Ferguson.

Tempers fray as Blues substitute Jordan Stewart and Coleraine captain Lyndon Kane clash but both escape a booking.

  13. Jordan Forsythe doubles the Crusaders lead

  14. GOAL

    Linfield 0-1 Coleraine

Aaron Canning heads the Bannsiders in front on 61 minutes.

The free-kick comes in from the right and keeper Rohan Ferguson fails to clear with his punch to allow the big defender to nod home.

It's reward to for an impressive start to the second half from the visitors but that must go down as a goalkeeping error.

  15. RED CARD

    Crusaders 2-0 Institute

Institute's Joe McCready is red carded for a ridiculous stamp on a prostrate Crusaders captain Colin Coates. Coates was on the ground after McCready appeared to lead with an elbow in an aerial challenge with the defender. What possessed McCready to then clearly stamp on Coates' lower leg is anyone's guess. Thankfully the Crues skipper is back on his feet and appears OK.

    Linfield 0-0 Coleraine

Blues boss David Healy makes a midfield change early in the second half with Bastien Hery coming on for Andy Mitchell.

  17. Chances galore!

    Linfield 0-0 Coleraine

Coleraine waste two great opportunities to go in front, starting with Ben Doherty screwing wide from a Eoin Bradley cut-back.

Stephen Lowry then heads straight at keeper Rohan Ferguson from Bradley's cross.

A frantic couple of minutes ends with Chris Johns tipping over Joel Cooper's strike at the other end.

  18. GOAL

    Crusaders 2-0 Institute

Jordan Forsythe doubles Crusaders' lead with a superb volleyed strike on 52 minutes after Ross Clarke successfully chases a seemingly lost cause to force a corner. Institute's Evan Tweed headed away a short corner played in by Clarke but only into Forsythe's path who took the ball on his chest before hammering a terrific 16-yard shot past Paul Wells.
