  1. Goodnight

    FT: Dundee United 1-1 Dundee

So, it's honours even in the third Dundee derby of the season. Frenetic, blood-and-thunder fare laced with two lovely goals - Nicky Clark for United, Graham Dorrans for Dundee.

In the end, a draw was probably about right. Dundee had the better of the second half but didn't have the guile or ruthlessness to carve out a great opportunity in front of goal.

United edge another point towards what will very probably be the Championship title - that's 14 clear at the summit now - while Dundee move into third and earn back some of the pride they surrendered in their two derby beatings earlier this season.

We'll be back on Sunday with all of the Scottish Premiership action, including an almighty Old Firm showdown at Celtic Park. For now, though, thank you for your company tonight and have a fantastic weekend.

  2. 'There's no complacency setting in'

    FT: Dundee United 1-1 Dundee

Dundee United head coach Robbie Neilson on BBC Radio Scotland:: "It wasn’t a great spectacle. Both teams were very direct, nobody really put their foot on the ball. We’ve played a lot better this season but it’s another step towards hopefully getting the title.

"I felt we got caught up in the derby atmosphere of ‘you kick it, we kick it’, second balls, free-kicks, and a draw was probably a fair result.

"We’re off the back of a 4-0 result against Ayr and we came here against a team that should be at the top of the league with us. It was a proper Premiership derby match. There’s no complacency setting in at all.

"We’ve still got a very long way to go. Inverness are a few points behind us and we can’t afford to slip up.We go down to Queen of the South next Saturday, got turned over heavily last time we went down there and we need to rectify that and keep chipping away."

  3. 'Dorrans is far too good for this league'

    FT: Dundee United 1-1 Dundee

Dundee manager James McPake hails the performances of teenager Finlay Robertson and veteran goalscorer Graham Dorrans as he outlines his disappointment to BBC Scotland's Brian McLauchlin.

"The second half, we were far superior and some of our play deserved better," he said.

"They are where they are for a reason. But the disappointing overriding feeling is that we never won that game.

"Graham Dorrans, Paul McGowan and Sean Mackie as a narrow midfield three were really good but that’s backed up by the security they get from a 17-year-old. He’s mature beyond his years in terms of his football brain. We put him in because he’s one of our better players. He’s going to have a big future – hopefully it’s at this football club. He allows the likes of Dorrans and Mackie to bomb on.

"Dorrans is far too good for this league. I hope he’s here for as long as I’m here. He raises the tempo, he dictated the pace of play in the second half – I thought he was outstanding."

  4. Check out the match report

    FT: Dundee United 1-1 Dundee

Those of you following these pages tonight will have noticed the slightly disconcerting mug of our colleague Richard Winton popping up every so often with his insights and colour.

He's now furnished us with his match report from Tannadice. Have a gander here.

  5. The full-time stats

    FT: Dundee United 1-1 Dundee

    Robbie Neilson and James McPake
  6. Dundee lacking ruthless edge

    FT: Dundee United 1-1 Dundee

    Willie Miller

Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

Quote Message: James McPake can seriously point out the qualities that his team showed tonight. There were many of them. They were the slightly better team, more aggressive, but I didn't think they had enough quality to create that chance. That's what was lacking.
  7. 'Hopefully it has given the fans something to cheer'

    FT: Dundee United 1-1 Dundee

Dundee captain Josh Meekings on BBC Radio Scotland: "It was a very tough game. We knew it would be. They’ve been flying in form.

"We gave away a sloppy goal early on but we showed character to come back into it. In the second half we tried to go for it, gave everything we could and hopefully it has given the fans something to cheer about because we know it has been difficult.

"It’s been a very hard season so far so hopefully we can keep building now and take it game by game".

  8. Reward for both

    FT: Dundee United 1-1 Dundee

    Richard Winton

    BBC Sport at Tannadice

Muted applause from the home fans at Tannadice - they wanted to secure a 10th win in a row against their rivals - but the bigger picture is that they move a further point clear at the top of the Championship.

For Dundee, a little face has been saved and a minor triumph can be celebrated.

  9. FULL-TIME Dundee United 1-1 Dundee

No, there won't. A manic, relentless Dundee derby ends in a draw.

There wasn't a great deal of skill on show, but boy, was it engrossing.

Nicky Clark's lovely finish put United ahead inside five minutes, but Dundee roared back through Graham Dorrans' cracking volley, and finished the game the stronger team.

The home side edge 14 points clear at the Scottish Championship summit, pending the rest of the weekend's fixtures, another point closer to the title and promotion. The visitors will be pleased with a stirring performance in stark contrast to the two derby beatings they copped earlier this season.

  10. Post update

    Dundee United 1-1 Dundee

Two minutes of stoppage time will be played and we're into them now. Is there to be one final twist?

  11. CLOSE!

    Dundee United 1-1 Dundee

We've hardly seen him tonight but at long last, Lawrence Shankland gets a little glimpse of goal.

The striker collects the ball just inside the Dundee box, dances to his left beyond a couple of despairing defenders, but makes a weak connection with the bobbling ball and it bounces harmlessly into the arms of Jack Hamilton.

  12. Post update

    Dundee United 1-1 Dundee

We're into the last five minutes of normal time at Tannadice. The tempo of this helter-skelter derby shows no sign of abating. Play continues to rage from end to end and the atmosphere in the stands is only growing more fraught as time ticks away.

  13. Kerr caught out

    Dundee United 1-1 Dundee

That was a nervy moment for Dundee and Cammy Kerr. The defender is pickpocketed down by the corner flag by Paul McMullan, but United can't quite fashion a clear shooting opportunity as Dundee players launch themselves kamikaze-style between ball and goal.

  14. Benjamin bowled over

    Dundee United 1-1 Dundee

Dundee load up the box again. A Graham Dorrans free-kick is headed out to Sean Mackie, whose ball is easily claimed by Benjamin Siegrist.

The goalkeeper takes the tiniest of nudges from Andrew Nelson as he prepares to hoof downfield, and goes down as though trampled by a buffalo. Yellow card for Nelson, Oscar nomination for Siegrist.

  15. On comes Sporle

    Dundee United 1-1 Dundee

Maybe Willie Miller is right. Robbie Neilson is sending for reinforcements, but it's a defender on for an attacker.

Goalscorer Nicky Clark is withdrawn for Adrian Sporle.

  16. Are United settling for a draw?

    Dundee United 1-1 Dundee

    Willie Miller

Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

Quote Message: United are looking like a team that are quite happy with the score line as it is. Maybe they are?
  17. CLOSE!

    Dundee United 1-1 Dundee

More Dundee pressure as they weave their way into the United box again.

This time, it's Paul McGowan who scurries on to a neat Graham Dorrans ball, but takes a touch too many, allowing the home defence to nick the ball away.

  18. Dundee have 'fire in their belly' tonight

    Dundee United 1-1 Dundee

    Willie Miller

Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

Quote Message: They’re working really hard – they’ve got fire in their belly tonight. They’ve been under a little bit of pressure in the last five minutes but I think slightly ahead in this game.
  19. Dorrans dazzler

    Dundee United 1-1 Dundee

Here's a lovely shot of that phenomenal Graham Dorrans equaliser. Some finish, this one...

  20. Post update

    Dundee United 1-1 Dundee

Twenty minutes to play. This one is balanced on a proverbial knife edge.

    Who wins it?

Give us a thumbs-up if you reckon it's a United win, click thumbs-down if you fancy Dundee to claim a precious Tannadice triumph.
