  1. Farewell

    West Brom celebrate

There goes another night in the English Football League.

West Brom bolstered their lead while the chasing pack and battle at the bottom got even more interesting.

Seven more Championship fixtures await tomorrow and we'll be bringing you the latest in just under 24 hours' time.

For now, thank you for joining us.

  2. Baggies take control at top

    Tuesday's Championship action

    Championship's top six

Victory for West Brom sees them take full control in the automatic promotion race, moving 10 points clear of third-placed Nottingham Forest - who now have a buffer over Fulham and Brentford.

    Championship's bottom six

The relegation race is hotting up, with Luton once again moving off bottom with a surprise win over Brentford.

Huddersfield's win takes them five clear of the drop, with Middlesbrough and Stoke now looking over their shoulders.

  3. League Two full-time headlines

    • Cheltenham were the night's big winners after Luke Varney's 85th-minute strike saw them come from behind to take all three points against Northampton. The Robins are now within three points of the automatic promotion places. Northampton, who could have moved above Cheltenham with a win, remain seventh.
    • Grimsby held-off a spirited Newport in the night's only other fixture, claiming a 4-2 win in an entertaining game. The victory sees Grimsby leapfrog their Welsh opponents into 14th, with Newport now 16th.
  4. League One full-time headlines

    Matt Godden
    • Coventry came oh so close to a late winner but Matty Godden's header whistled past the post to see the contest end 1-1. The result means that Rotherham stay top on goal difference from the Sky Blues.
    • Fleetwood led Sunderland for a full 90 minutes before Max Power's 97th minute equaliser rescued a point. Portsmouth and Oxford kept themselves well in the play-off mix with comfortable wins over MK Dons and Accrington respectively.
    • There was no pleasure in Blackpool for Bolton who lost their fifth game in a row, going down 2-1, and Tranmere picked up a vital three points in their battle to avoid the drop, seeing-off Shrewsbury 3-2 thanks to Corey Blackett-Taylor's injury time winner.
  5. Championship full-time headlines

    Callum Paterson and Leandro Bacuna
    • West Brom ease to win against 10-man Preston which puts them seven points clear at the top of the Championship
    • Tiago Silva's second-half goal gives Nottingham Forest victory against Cardiff as they move up to third and three points off second-placed Leeds
    • At the end of that match, Cardiff teammates Callum Paterson and Leandro Bacuna embroiled in heated spat on the field
    • Luton move off the bottom of the table with huge victory against Brentford who slip to fifth and six points off second
    • Huddersfield pull off victory against Bristol City who slip behind in play-off chase while QPR beat Derby
  6. Post update

Now that tonight's English Football League fixtures have drawn to a close, let's take a look at some of the headlines..

    West Brom 2-0 Preston

    Slaven Bilic

All over at The Hawthorns and West Brom ease to victory at a canter against 10-man Preston.

That win puts the Baggies seven points clear at the top of the Championship.

    West Brom 2-0 Preston

Rekeem Harper hits the crossbar with a curling shot from just outside the box and West Brom are flying.

They are almost certainly going seven points clear at the top of the Championship.

    Huddersfield 2-1 Bristol City

    Huddersfield celebrate

Famara Diedhiou's late goal came too late to inspire a Bristol City comeback as Huddersfield pick up a valuable three points to pull away from the Championship bottom three.

Bristol City miss the chance to put the pressure on entering the play-off places.

    West Brom 2-0 Preston

West Brom would surely be 3-0 up were it not for the split-second reactions of Preston keeper Declan Rudd.

Charlie Austin picks up the ball for the hosts inside the box and unleashes a powerful quickfire shot that forces Rudd into a fine save.

    Luton 2-1 Brentford

    Luton celebrate

They've done it! Luton pull off a colossal win and that's four wins from their past seven games.

Victory against Brentford lifts them off the bottom of the table and puts them four points off safety.

  12. Post update

    FT: Cardiff 0-1 Nottm Forest

Just before full-time it looks like there was an off-the-ball incident between Cardiff teammates Callum Paterson and Leandro Bacuna.

It's unclear at this stage what happened that inspired the angry coming together.

  13. Coventry push for late winner

    Coventry 1-1 Rotherham

    Ged Scott

    BBC Sport at St Andrew's

Nine minutes of injury time at St Andrew’s following that incident earlier involving Rotherham’s Daniel Barlaser.

Coventry looking the likeliest to snatch a winner.

    QPR 2-1 Derby

Derby had been absolutely piling on the pressure during injury time and in the very final minute it's Martyn Waghorn again who misses the target by inches.

So close yet so far and QPR hang on to pick up all three points!

That win moves the Londoners above their East Midlands opponents and into the top half.

They're 10 points behind Preston in sixth and have 11 games to make up that deficit if they want to be in the play-off mix - a tall order yes, but we've seen stranger things in the Championship.

  15. GOAL: Huddersfield 2-1 Bristol City

    Famara Diedhiou (88 mins)

Who else? Can Bristol City force a dramatic late point at the John Smiths Stadium?!

Famara Diedhiou pokes in from close range to give the visitors hope of at least a point against Huddersfield who had looked so comfortable!

  16. Post update

    Luton 2-1 Brentford

Brentford are desperately hammering Luton as they look to get something out of this game in the dying moments.

Said Benrahma curls an effort wide from 18 yards out, however.

Luton are off the bottom of the Championship as it stands.

    Cardiff 0-1 Nottm Forest

    Nottm Forest celebrate

All over at the Cardiff City Stadium and Nottingham Forest have picked up a massive three points against Cardiff.

They're up to third and just three points off second-placed Leeds.

  18. League Two latest

Is that the winner for Cheltenham?!

Experienced forward Luke Varney slots home with only minutes remaining against Northampton. That will certainly keep the Robins above their opponents in the table this evening - if it stays that way.

Grimsby may finally have seen off Newport's challenge as they are now leading 4-2.

  19. Post update

    Huddersfield 2-0 Bristol City

Huddersfield are pushing to extend their lead, with this result potentially doing plenty for their confidence as they look to pull away from the Championship drop zone.

Lewis O'Brien plays Emile Smith Rowe into the box who sees his effort saved before O'Brien fires the rebound wide.

Bristol City boss Lee Johnson will be livid at his side's performance.

  20. Post update

    QPR 2-1 Derby

QPR's Ilias Chair misses a chance

Two chances for the home side to seal it come and go.

Yoann Barbet heads over before Ben Hamer in the Derby goal prevents Ilias Chair grabbing his second.

Then it's Derby's turn to threaten as Martyn Waghorn sees his close-range effort saved and Wayne Rooney sends a free-kick off-target.

But.... there are FIVE minutes of injury time.
