  1. See you tomorrow

That's it for today then. Thanks for joining me for updates from Friday's Premier League news conferences, which included Pep Guardiola saying that Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling is set to be out 'for weeks'.

We'll be back on Saturday for live text commentary on Everton's home game against Crystal Palace (12:30 GMT).

Until then, I'll leave you with some of today's top stories:

  2. 'This Hammers team cannot defend'

Man City v West Ham (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Mark Lawrenson

    Ex-Liverpool defender

I would also be shocked if they don't beat West Ham on Sunday. This Hammers team cannot defend at the moment, as we saw against Brighton last weekend, so City are going to get plenty of chances to find the net this time.

West Ham know they are in a relegation dogfight now, but the problem is they knew that last Saturday too, and it did not seem to help them.

They were great when they were 3-1 up against the Seagulls, but the way they are conceding goals and dropping points from winning positions - 19 this season, a Premier League high - is a massive worry.

That is an issue for their players too, because it will affect their mindset.

Even when they go a goal in front, everyone kind of takes a step back because they know what is coming, and it is very difficult to change that mentality.

    Lawro's prediction: 3-0. Katie Ormerod's prediction: 4-3.

  3. 'You start thinking when the crazy moment is coming'

Man City v West Ham (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Mark Lawrenson

    Ex-Liverpool defender

City's defeat by Tottenham on Sunday summed up their season. They should have been in front and out of sight long before they were reduced to 10 men and fell behind soon afterwards.

Again, City conceded with the first shot they faced in the game, this time in the 63rd minute.

Sometimes, when you are on a run where that keeps happening, as a player you sometimes expect it - you are in control of the game but you haven't taken your chances and you start thinking "when is the crazy moment coming?"

It has just been one of those seasons for City, but I would still be very surprised if they don't finish second.

  4. 'Not on my watch'

Everton v Crystal Palace (Sat, 12:30 GMT)

    Alistair Magowan

    BBC Sport

There is a chance that Liverpool could win the Premier League title at Goodison Park next month, which must make Everton fans shudder!

But it doesn't sound like Carlo Ancelotti will let that happen on his watch.

He said: "Liverpool are going to win the Premier League, I hope not at Goodison Park. There are a lot of stadiums. Why Goodison Park? No."

  5. 'What matters is where we are at the end, not the middle of February'

Man City v West Ham (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    West Ham United

After visiting defending champions Manchester City, West Ham must travel to runaway leaders Liverpool on 24 February.

"Whoever the best teams are, managers are thinking of a plot to try to beat them," said Hammers boss David Moyes.

"You only have to look at Manchester City's success in recent seasons - it's been exceptional. It won't be an easy task, but we'll try everything we can to get a result.

"What matters is where we are at the end, not the middle of February. You play everybody twice so, come the end of the season, we'll give ourselves a good chance of being in a strong position but we have to win games.

"The ones coming up at the moment look much harder, but it's where we are at the end of the season that will really count."

  6. Gbamin surgery was a success - Ancelotti

Everton v Crystal Palace (Sat, 12:30 GMT)

    Alistair Magowan

    BBC Sport

There is good news on the injury front for Everton. Jean-Philippe Gbamin's surgery on his thigh went well, and Andre Gomes is still on course to make an amazing recovery from his ankle injury by being in contention for the Arsenal game on 23 February.

Boss Carlo Ancelotti said of Gbamin: "The plan is eight weeks after the surgery, the surgery went well and now he's doing individual treatment, but with him we have to do it slowly because the injury was big. We hope to recover him before the end of the season."

On Gomes, he added: "He is still on course for Arsenal. We are going to organise a friendly game for us when we come back from holidays. Everything is OK for him."

  7. Moyes on Bowen - It gives me great hope that he'll step up

Man City v West Ham (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    West Ham United

New signing Jarrod Bowen could make his West Ham debut after arriving from Hull before the transfer deadline.

"Jarrod is a very exciting prospect, I'm really pleased to have him," said Hammers boss boss David Moyes.

"I think he's a player who's done really well in the Championship over two, three seasons, so he's had to earn his stripes and show he can do it there. From that it gives me great hope that he'll step up.

"From the Championship, I've taken Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka, John Stones, Tim Cahill - some have come in and done a job really quickly and others have taken more time to settle. I'll find out in time.

"We can't be putting pressure on new players to completely make the difference here. I thought Tomas Soucek did very well in his first game here. We'll have to give him time to get used to it."

  8. Guardiola - City have courage

Man City v West Ham (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Simon Stone

    BBC Sport

Manchester City have gone successive games without scoring for the first time under Pep Guardiola.

They are facing a third straight defeat for only the second time under the Catalan.

But Guardiola says his players are not suffering a crisis of confidence.

"They’ve always had the courage to play," he said. "We do not spend 30 seconds wasting time or passing to the keeper. We always play and we will do that until the last day I am here.”

City will fancy their chances on Sunday. They have won all eight matches against West Ham under Guardiola by a combined score of 28-3.

  9. Messi will stay at Barca - Ancelotti

Everton v Crystal Palace (Sat, 12:30 GMT)

    Alistair Magowan

    BBC Sport

The future of Barcelona's Lionel Messi has been a big talking point this week after his public display of dissatisfaction towards the club's hierarchy.

But Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti doesn't think he'll be heading to the Premier League any time soon.

He said: "It would be fantastic for the Premier League, but I don't think it can be possible. Messi is a Barca legend and I'm sure he will finish his career there."

  10. Moyes glad at window switching back

Man City v West Ham (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    West Ham United

West Ham boss David Moyes was chuffed that the summer window is being extended though.

"I'm quite pleased it's going back to the way it was," he said.

"We didn't think it was quite right when players were playing for other teams before the window closed, but it did seem like a disadvantage because the top clubs want to be able to deal right up to the last minute with all the other clubs throughout Europe."

  11. Ancelotti not a fan of transfer window extension

Everton v Crystal Palace (Sat, 12:30 GMT)

    Alistair Magowan

    BBC Sport

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti isn't too chuffed about the summer transfer window being extended to 1 September next season.

He says: 'It's not good for my job to have this window so open. The best way for a manager is when the season starts officially, the window closes

    "For us, it’s more difficult."

  12. No easy answers for Man City

Man City v West Ham (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Simon Stone

    BBC Sport

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola admits there are no obvious reasons why his side have slipped so far behind Liverpool this season.

City's defeat at Tottenham last Sunday left them 22 points adrift of the leaders. City had an incredible 19 shots in the game to Spurs' three.

"I would like to find an explanation," said Guardiola. "Against Spurs we had energy and power. I know they want to score.

"But we cannot win when we miss and they arrive once and score.

"That’s a problem in terms of things not going well. I don’t know why we are missing chances."

  13. Anderson & Yarmolenko near Hammers return

Man City v West Ham (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    West Ham United

West Ham boss David Moyes started his news conference with a fitness update, saying: "We've actually got a lot of players beginning to get closer to fitness.

"Felipe Anderson's had a couple of days' training, Andriy Yarmolenko's on the grass and working towards getting back, and most of the players I'd say are just about ready.

"There are one or two niggles in there we're working on."

  14. 'We didn't expect to be 22 points behind'

Man City v West Ham (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Manchester City

Liverpool's win over Southampton last Saturday saw them open up a record 22-point lead in the Premier League and Manchester City failed to close the gap as they lost 2-0 at Tottenham on Sunday.

"We cannot deny the gap is big," said City boss Pep Guardiola. "We didn't expect to be 22 points behind but it's the reality. We have to accept it and learn from it."

  15. Ancelotti targeting Europa League

Everton v Crystal Palace (Sat, 12:30 GMT)

    Alistair Magowan

    BBC Sport

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti says his team's game at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday is an opportunity to climb the table, but he says that reaching the top four this season is out of reach.

He said: "Honestly, we are not thinking about the Champions League. Playing in the Europa League would be a fantastic result for us next season - this is the target.

"[Fourth-placed] Chelsea are too far ahead in this moment. Maybe in the next three or four games they can be closer to us, but there are a lot of fantastic teams around us."

  16. Toffees have just three midfielders

Everton v Crystal Palace (Sat, 12:30 GMT)

    Everton

That leaves Carlo Ancelotti with three available midfielders - Tom Davies, Morgan Schneiderlin and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

"I can tell you two of them will play, the other will be on the bench," Ancelotti said.

  17. Gbamin could feature before the summer

Everton v Crystal Palace (Sat, 12:30 GMT)

    Everton

Everton midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin has undergone a second operation on his thigh problem.

"The plan for Gbamin is eight weeks after his surgery," said boss Carlo Ancelotti.

"The surgery went well and now he's doing individual treatment. We have to go slowly but, of course, we hope to see him before the end of the season."

  18. Toffees to play friendly for Gomes

Everton v Crystal Palace (Sat, 12:30 GMT)

    Everton

Everton midfielder Fabian Delph must serve a one-match ban as a consequence of his sending off in last week's 3-2 win at Watford.

Fellow midfielder Andre Gomes could return later this month after recovering swiftly from a serious ankle injury.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti has just confirmed that the Toffees will have a friendly game during the winter break to aid Gomes' recovery before they face Arsenal.

  19. Sane 'weeks' away from City return

Man City v West Ham (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

    Simon Stone

    BBC Sport

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says winger Leroy Sane is still 'weeks' away from a first-team return.

Sane is training with the main group again after recovering from major knee ligament surgery.

But Guardiola thinks it will be a while before the Germany international can play a senior game.

"It takes time," he said. "It will be weeks before he is ready."
