Next stop, Brazil

Lewis Hamilton lives to fight another day, but the maths is simple for Nico Rosberg: Win in Brazil two weeks' time and he will be world champion.

It may not have been a magical race in Mexico, with much of the mayhem happening at the end, but we could be in for a belter in Brazil.

Until then, keep an eye on Andrew Benson's Twitter feed for developments on Ricciardo-Vettel and I'll see you later.

It's ain't over yet...

Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo summoned to the stewards - Vettel alleged to have driven "dangerously or erratically" #F1 #MexicoGP

Matt Hodnet: Considering people now get upset in football for people showing emotion poor sebs got no chance.

Andrew Jones: Any other sport that level of abuse to the umpire (race director) would be instant red card.

'History shows it's never too late'

Lewis Hamilton speaking to Sky Sports: "From the grass to the finish! I hadn't even thought about the stewards thing, I was more concerned about the flat spot rattling my brain for 17 laps. It was such a big vibration I was worried the suspension was going to fail.

"It has gone very well these last two wins. I wish all of them had gone as well as these two. History has showed it is never too late. I am driving with every bit of energy in my heart I have.

"If I had to have pushed I could have made that more, which is a real positive to take away from this weekend. The team did a great job.

"I had some time to look at the TV, so I could see some things going on behind me, but could only get a glimpse."

Christian Horner has been to see the stewards re Vettel v Ricciardo. The drivers have been called up at 1600 local - i.e. right about now.

Formula 1

Lewis Hamilton's win was Mercedes' 17th of a dominant season. That's a new record in Formula 1 and they could still add two more to that before the year is out.

Nico Rosberg is adamant on Sky Sports that Lewis Hamilton did nothing wrong at the first corner when he ran wide and cut across the grass.

"Lewis did a better job this weekend," he said. "He went into the corner first and came out first, that is OK. Second place I have to live with that. Second is the best I could do."

'It's none of your business'

More from Sebastian Vettel on Sky Sports: "I had reason to be angry. All in all I think it was a very good race. We had a good pace and made it work. We came back at the end to fight for the podium.

"I went to see him (Charlie Whiting) immediately so I think, look I don't understand why you are making a fuss. For sure it is not the right thing to say, but equally emotions were running high.

"I don't understand you are trying to push me in a corner. Out of respect I went to see him.

Asked what Whiting said, Vettel responded: "It's none of your business.

"I was fighting very hard and supposed to give him just enough which I think he had. Daniel Ricciardo is sometimes optimistic in going for a gap. I knew he would go for it whatever the costs, I tried to defend and in the end we made contact and that's not ideal."

Verstappen points deduction

Verstappen loses his third place place finish after being given a 5 second time penalty

Sergio's still trying...

Can you hear that?

That's the sound of Sergio Perez's engine. He's still trying to overtake Felipe Massa.

Perez spent 30 laps behind Massa and just could not find a way past.

I bet he absolutely hates the rear wing of a Williams.

Perfect job - again - by HAM. ROS left to consolidate 2nd after absorbing pressure from VES. 2 races to go, anything can happen. #F1 #bbcf1

William Bone: If Max let Vettel past after going off track in the first place then the Vettel/Ricciado move wouldn't have happened. ย ย

Garry: Stewards were fair and consistent. Penalties only applied were an advantage was gained. No advantage for Hamilton or Rosberg. ย

James: Tactical bullying by RB - use Ves slow pace to back Vet into Ric. I'm chuffed that it failed and Vet got his reward ย

'I was very emotional'

More from Sebastian Vettel in the post-race news conference: "I don't think there is anything to say (to Max Verstappen).

"I think it was very clear I was very emotional and I have asked already to go and see him (Charlie Whiting).ย

"When you are in the car I was full of adrenaline, because it is not right what Max did. I was getting upset, as you can imagine."

The main news conference is taking place right now.ย

Sebastian Vettel is quizzed about his colourful language which has absolutely tickled Nico Rosberg. He's chuckling away as Vettel gulps angrily on a bottle of energy drink.

Give that bleep machine a pay rise!

Just listened back to VET radio messages, he was pretty fiery "bleep, bleep bleeeeeeep" ๐Ÿ˜€#MexicoGP #bbcf1

As for Vettel's sweary tirade against Charlie Whiting, in the Mosley days he'd have been up before the beak for that

'Vettel is a very frustrated guy'

Max Verstappen speaking to Sky Sports: "I think it is pretty similar to what happened in corner one, Lewis went off and got a massive advantage and Nico went off when we touched. I didn't even get an advantage, I was the same length in front, so i think it is ridiculous.

"They thought I had to give it back (the place), but it was never confirmed. I was not backing him up, I was just trying to do the best I can. They don't give a penalty for Nico, don't give me a penalty at the end of the race.

"I saw the footage. At least I can do it in a good way, it is ridiculous what he did and then he starts shouting on the radio. I don't know how many times he is using very bad language.ย

"I will speak to him because this is how ridiculous he is handling it, he is just a very frustrated guy at the moment."

There's more drama and arguments than an episode of Eastenders at the paddock at the moment.

Now its Max Verstappen's turn to fume in the media pen. He is not at all happy with Sebastian Vettel and thinks "he should go back to school" to be taught not to swear so much.

Benedict Salido: Max not giving back the position shows how spoilt he is,thinks he can get away w/ anything. Total disrepect to the rules and drivers. ย

Martin Jarvis: Is vettel losing his credibility? expressed his views on max moving under breaking. When hes is challenged does same under breaking ย

Bibz: Remember, Ricciardo let Max through so I reckon Max would have given that place back. So final results would have stood either way ย

That Vettel-Ricciardo move is going to be an interesting one. Vettel moved under braking but a squeeze rather than a sharp Verstappen jink.

'Vettel doesn't deserve to be up there'

Daniel Ricciardo is not happy at all as he speaks to Sky Sports. He and Vettel collided as Ricciardo attempted to move down the inside of the Ferrari late in the race.

"He [Vettel] is smiling now. He doesn't deserve to be up there," says Ricciardo. "I thought I had every right to be there but he kept closing the door under braking. I was frustrated with that.ย

"I also didn't understand the start, how you can be leading the race, defend, go off the track and not get a penalty? What was different with Max Verstappen's move and Lewis'? It was a mistake and you have to pay the price. I am just frustrated with how it all panned out to be honest."

You are not the only driver annoyed, Seb. Daniel Ricciardo is fuming...

'You can understand why I was annoyed'

Sebastian Vettel, who finished third after Max Verstappen's penalty: "I was using a lot of sign language. You have to understand the adrenaline.ย

"Then obviously he left the track and didn't move and so you can understand why I was annoyed. I was really disappointed when I crossed the line, but then I was told to come up here."

'A good day'

Nico Rosberg, who finished second: "It has been a good day. I haven't been too fast this weekend so I have to accept second place. I got shunted at the start and had a battle with Max Verstappen late on, so it was OK to be second."

'The team did a great job'

Lewis Hamilton after finishing first: "It was amazing because of all these people "viva Mexico!" this is honestly the best crowd we get anywhere. In our home country it is always great, but these guys have such a great passion.

"I love it here. I have had tacos every night.

"Nico is doing a great job. I'm really grateful the team did a great job."

Fifty left to play for. The fight continues.

And so the correct top three climb onto the top of the podium as the British national anthem is played.ย
