    Formula 1

October 2015: Lewis Hamilton wins the world championship.

October 2016: Lewis Hamilton falls 23 points behind Nico Rosberg in the title race.

What a difference a year makes, eh?

Hamilton may have been able to put his feet up from the final races of last season, but it is going to take all of his skill and mental strength to prevent this year's championship from slipping away.

A hugely frustrating day for the Briton. Fortunately he doesn't have long to think about it, because the Japanese Grand Prix starts on Friday. Not to be missed.

    Until then, goodbye.

Here's the full quotes from Daniel Ricciardo after he dedicated victory to Jules Bianchi: "It is just over two years since my last victory. It has been a long two years and a lot has happened and the life changing moment was the loss of Jules. He was a competitor and a friend and that was hard to take and hard to move on. I'd have liked to have win sooner and dedicated a win to him sooner.

"This one is definitely for him."

  3. Where will the title be won?

Here's the remaining races. Can you see Lewis Hamilton overturning the 23 point deficit?

Mexican Grand Prix (Mexico City, 28-30 October)

"I’ve been waiting for a victory and waiting to dedicate this to him," said Ricciardo.

  7. Post update

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has just been speaking to Sky Sports and says everyone at the team, including Lewis Hamilton, has just been in a small meeting to discuss what happened.

Wolff said: "We have all been in there together, mechanics and engineers. This team has always been able to recover well there is a great spirit in the team and we need to keep pushing and not let him and Nico down.

"You need to speak to him [Lewis] now. We have had a small meeting and it is clear you are seeking an explanation. There are no words and explanation. There are different failures all the time. It is a mechanic sport.

"It is clear that you are so frustrated with the situation what else are you expected to say. there is no rational explanation so everything comes into your mind. The words he said for the team in the meeting were really awesome. I can understand the immediate frustration when it comes to your mind."

Disco Stu: Obviously all conspiracy thoughts are nonsense. Mercedes would not sabotage themselves. But it can affect his mindset and season

Tom Lloyd: I couldn't imagine Merc would give their most marketable driver a handicapped engine. Get on with it Lewis

  12. 'We've done nothing against him'

Mercedes non executive chairman Niki Lauda says the team has "let down" Lewis Hamilton.

He told Sky Sports: "I am really upset about myself and my organisation because we should not let him down with an engine failure. It was a fairly new engine, it was not old in the car. What went wrong I do not know and we will work to correct it.

"I am taking him to Japan tomorrow in my plane. I hope I can bring him up. The championship is over when the last race is over, 23 points is a lot but you never know.

"We have done nothing against him. We have people working for him, we are proud of him and these things happen."
