  1. Post update

    Allan McNish

BBC Radio 5 live Formula 1 analyst

It's always better to lead a championship than to chase one - especially as he has been chasing since Melbourne back in March.

However, we are coming up to races that suit Ferrari much more. The fight is still on.

  2. Drivers' championship standings

    1 Lewis Hamilton 238, 2 Sebastian Vettel 235, 3 Valtteri Bottas 197, 4 Daniel Ricciardo 144, 5 Kimi Raikkonen 138, 6 Max Verstappen 68

Hamilton is three points ahead of Sebastian Vettel in the drivers championship and that, psychologically, is huge.

  4. Post update

Kimi Raikkonen takes fifth in the second Ferrari, while Esteban Ocon is sixth for Force India.

The Williams cars had a great scrap on that last lap but Lance Stroll did enough to finish ahead of Felipe Massa, while the second Force India of Sergio Perez watched them scrap all the way to the flag as he took ninth.

Tenth goes to Max Verstappen after that earlier crash damage.

  5. Post update

Valtteri Bottas comes home in second place, with Sebastian Vettel holding off Daniel Ricciardo for third place.

Hamilton takes the lead of the championship for the first time in 2017.

  6. Chequered flag

LEWIS HAMILTON WINS THE ITALIAN GRAND PRIX.

  7. Team radio

McLaren: "Ok Fernando - back off, back off. We need to retire the car."

    Alonso: "Okay."

  8. FINAL LAP

A cruise home for Hamilton surely.

Ricciardo on Vettel is not going to happen, sadly.

  9. Mice getting into the machinery

Sauber's Marcus Ericsson and McLaren's Fernando Alonso have each been told to retire their cars.

  10. Two laps to go

Hamilton leads by five seconds from Bottas.

  11. Stewards clear Verstappen

    All very needless and silly.

  12. Post update

Ricciardo has set a fastest lap of 1:23.361 and is now just 4.3s behind Vettel.

    Three laps to go.

  13. Team radio

Haas driver Kevin Magnussen: "If that is allowed, it's crazy. That can't be allowed. "

Haas pitwall: "Copy that - we are reporting it to Charlie"

  14. Post update

Verstappen is going to be investigated for "forcing another driver off the track" after that tangle with Magnussen into the second chicane.

Magnussen has been bleating about it over the radio but there didn't seem to be much in it.

    Good, forceful driving by Verstappen.

    Get on and race!

  15. Post update

    Jennie Gow

BBC Radio 5 live pit-lane reporter

I spoke to Toto Wolff on the BBC F1 podcast this week and he said it is "a no brainer" to keep Bottas next year.

However, he did say they don't want to be caught out in the madness of the driver market with some "big names" potentially becoming available.

Max Verstappen being one of them...

  16. Bottas doing the business again

    Jack Nicholls

Radio 5 live Formula 1 commentator

Valtteri Bottas has got to be considered for Mercedes next year. He is only on a one-year contract but he is the perfect support for Lewis Hamilton.

  17. Verstappen back into the points

Verstappen looks like making the most of a difficult day at the office. He's pulled off a few decent moves against the midfield runners and has just out-braked Kevin Magnussen's Haas into the first chicane.

Magnussen then goes off track at the second chicane as he tries to fight back.

P10 for the Red Bull man.

  18. Get Involved - #bbcf1

Adeel Ejaz: Oh my! Daniel Ricciardo is on fire!!! 😮

Liam Boland: Daniel Ricciardo is incredible! Let's get 3rd baby! 🏁🏎

Fissuh Hailu: Dani RIC is having a blast. What a move there! Now VET.

  19. Hamilton heading for title lead

A reminder that if it stays this way then Lewis Hamilton will take the lead of the championship for the first time.

Twenty-five points today allied to 15 for Vettel will put the Briton three ahead going into the race in Singapore.
